Just to be clear, Matur is not considered nearly the same level prospect as Thon (Matur isn't considered a top 100 prospect for 2017 at this point).

But I think this is a move that says Thon doesn't think that the NCAA will rule him eligible (whole recruitment might be the most shady I've ever seen). John Wall considered doing this his senior year and so did Jon Isaac (FSU signee this year in a similar situation) and the NBA came out and said no on both. Maker will likely have to take the next step that neither did and sue the NBA to enter the draft, which is risky because if the courts rule against him he'll be stuck in the d league or overseas. But if he thinks the NCAA won't rule him eligible than he really has nothing to lose.

You also can't say with certainty that the speech had anything to do with the turnaround. If he wasn't in the wrong, why not just go straight to game film after each game while it's fresh in the mind. It would have to be more effective right? Only they can't because there are media period obligations. I'll stand by what I said, he did it for the right reason, but that doesn't make it right as a whole. I don't think less of Buzz or Bitter in this situation and frankly can't understand why everybody has felt the need to blow a few tweets out of proportion.

Understand the stress, but it needs to be taken relative to the stress of a NCAA coach trying regain his and his team's footing after a devastating loss. The reporter can tell management that he only controls the things he can (coaches not being one of them...) but that line doesn't work too well (or for very many times) for a coach trying to explain away a major loss.

Or maybe Bitter was simply having a bad night, and wasn't willing to own up to it.

Simmons is better than Maker, high level player probably brought down by bad coaching. I wish Simmons had come here to play with Bibbs, his high school teammate. I think we would've made the tournament.

Exactly. I can't think of any time I was more embarrassed as a Hokie fan than his leg stomping incident in the Louisville game. It still irritates me when I see that video. Good riddance.

Because when you're being paid to play you better show some improvement that makes you worth the investment. By the time he actually develops, if he even does, his first contract would likely be over and the team may not even get the benefits of its investment. You said he needs a lot of work. 4 years of college plus a few more in the NBA sounds like enough time. Four years of the NBA at the same development speed and he'll find himself in a low level international league.
