I would suggest that those of you who are asking if he will redshirt look at what/how many college basketball players redshirt. cds7c is right, non-transfer/non-injured basketball players rarely redshirt, only super project players like JVZ. A guy who plays for Oak Hill is an unlikely redshirt candidate. And as I have said multiple times, most big men take longer to develop, Sy may or may not be a little bit of a project, but that's not uncommon for bigs.

UPDATE: If Wilson's scholarship spot opens up, it could give us room for Delaware PG Kory Holden

The 6'2'' Holden averaged 17.7 ppg, 4.2 apg, 3.0 rpg, 39.4% FG, 38.8% 3PT, and 79.5% FT in 36.3 mpg last year. He is from Salisbury, MD and as a sophomore would redshirt one year and have two years remaining. He would be able to step in after Seth Allen graduates.

While this is true, both of these kids have had some of the best facilities and trainers available to them for almost five years at this point and neither really has made much progress in bulking up, which they will need at the NBA level to play inside. Its something that could haunt their careers long term.

You are correct on Matur, he has fallen off significantly since I last looked at the rankings. Still see him in the top 50 in the rankings on a couple sites, many have him as top three at the center position in 2017 still although there seems to be a big disconnect since he went to Canada with the ranking sites, some almost seem to have stopped updating information on him since the jump.

I don't think that Thon will sue, I see him taking a more Brandon Jennings approach by going to Europe to play and then entering the draft in 2016 if the NBA rules against him. I think this mainly because of his handler wanting to start the dollars rolling in, also the NBA could easily drag a court case like this out for a year, essentially making it a moot point. Jennings got a pretty solid deal when he went to Italy after high school especially since they knew he was going to leave after one year and the deal was structured to let him go. He was still making seven figures as an eighteen year old between salary and endorsements. Came back after one year and went 10th in the draft. Some argue he would have gone higher if he had played at ASU but there were serious concerns on him qualifying.

The one thing that has stuck out at me is that even with all the specialized support and training the last five years, neither of the Maker's seem to have the ability to add any mass to their frames. This could prove really detrimental at the professional level where the big bodies will be able to move them off the blocks quite easily even with the height they have.

Been giving a presentation at work all day. Jumping on here and seeing this is an excellent way to end the day.

Rick is a sheep as long as Carl is alive.
Negan may know about the baby too.

Yeah, I mean, I know all that, and I'm also against one and dones for the most part too. I've been critical on here of others calling for Buzz to recruit "blue chip" prospects. In terms of Simmons as a one and done, ignoring the reasons he chose LSU, I thought he'd be a good fit for this team. Could run the floor, be a distributor, help with size with KJ as his backup or playing alongside each other, give the team tourney experience, and give VT recognition that could help land a guy that Buzz wants in the future. But only because of his connection to Bibbs and it being early in the Buzz era, in almost all other cases I'd avoid guys like that.
Sidenote--there's been criticism of Simmons as not caring about his team or school, but his parents moved to Baton Rouge to be with him, so either they supported his choices or he's got some issues that even his parents couldn't help him with.

I actually did. No shame. I'm really, really gonna miss that old man. Now I kinda just want to hug you all and then re-watch some VT games from the past few years.

These videos are the best introduction to the new coaches. Besides their first win on the field, on course.

this time a year creates such a conflict in my mind. I love summer, especially living at the beach....but dammit this makes me want the fall to be here!

Yeah but if he can get into the NBA first round this year he might still make more money long run. To be fair most college players don't make it to the NBA, and most five star prospects don't last too long.

I feel like this is a little unfair. It's pretty hard to put muscle on that frame, especially without some muscular genes to get you off to a good start. Short arms and legs bulk up much faster.

This kid's brother is better than he is, go look him up. This kid looks like he's never even heard of the weight room.

Buzz REALLY doesn't want players to be one and dones at VT. Although the best players are those types, you really only have them for one year, and you can have a truly mixed bag of results. So I'll go with Buzz's judgement on not really pursuing Simmons or Maker. Plus, Simmons godfather is a coach at LSU, so there was significant draw for him to choose there with the rest of his family in Australia.
