Watching OSU-Akron and their stadium is only 1/2 to 2/3 full. I think they NIT should actually trend towards giving the smaller schools home court to showcase their campus/gym/crowd. Akron is the lower seed, but any higher seeds that are mid-majors are gonna have their fans show up for the NIT when a major program like OSU won't.

No insight, but if I had to guess it's just to align with the Twitter handles. VT_Football is for official news, HokiesFB is geared towards recruiting and fun stuff.

I can update the post tomorrow - BYU I believe is the biggest, while Wagner or High Point is probably the smallest.

Is Texas Southern's place really named "Health and Physical Education Arena"...?

That's just awful.

Did Seth coach at the triangle Pyramid, or too new?

One more thing on this hack:

After we poached Buzz he made quite a similar tweet about Ben Howland being hired at Marquette. Obviously that didn't happen. Heck, Howland didn't even coach in 2014-2015 so I am sure he would have jumped at the Marquette offer. Marquette would have also taken him over a guy who had no HC experience.

It would be really awesome for me if we end up playing Valpo in the semi-finals since I lived in Valparaiso when I was a kid. The Bryce Drew shot happened when I was 4 but I still remember it happening because it was huge for my community. He was a celebrity to the point that when my elementary school got some autographed memorabilia from him to give away at a reading event, there were parents that looked ready to go into combat to obtain it.

For reference

Fun project for someone with a little free time on their hands: What's the capacity of all those barns? Some look ridiculously tiny, but it's hard to get the whole place into one photo.

Cassell is one of my favorites off this list besides the ultra modern and flashy. It has the old school charm with a nice flow through the stands. The only thing I would change about it is add some permanent risers behind the baskets to continue the stands from the student section to the floor and possibly switch the high corners for luxury suites like from that mock-up that floated around a while back. That and we need to get students on the sidelines like Duke does so we can get jumping students in each frame on tv. It may sound ridiculous but that subtle hint of crazy students in the background behind every in-bounds can do a lot for perception for the average non-hokie viewer.

Go ahead Creighton! Place is nice.

While you are setting yourself up (on a doughnut, I suspect) to be the butt of many jokes, and I haven't had your problem meself, I will attest to the complaints of acquaintances who have dealt with your particular ailment. My best wishes for your rapid recovery, and what the hell, you weren't gonna sit down much at the game anyway, given your fandom.

Thank you for this. I love college basketball gyms. Some of these are really beautiful.

I saw someone tweet the way they interpreted it was that Buzz is going to listen to any offer and see if it makes sense for his family. Which is a 100% fair way to look at it. I don't think he's going anywhere this year, but if he does I won't be surprised. Especially if he thinks it's to the benefit of his family because that's who Buzz is. He is very outwardly christian and a family man. If he does happen to leave, then I will bid him farewell and trust in Whit to make another good hire.

This is true. Given my wife's creation above, and others like this, its amazing that I don't weigh 300+ lbs. Of course, I can be too late, with a teenager in the house. But that only deprives me of pie. Most food doesn't have a long shelf life in my refrigerator.

I like the Marriott center a lot. I know Cassell has its charm, but taking a look at these did make me wish we had an arena more on par with the ACC. Also, some of these arenas are no bigger than high school gyms!

Being old doesn't do much for you, but one thing I like is the perspective I have gained about my beloved Hokies. Be it football or basketball, baseball or tiddly-damn-winks, I am a fan. Sure, I don't go too crazy about the olympic sports and don't actively follow sports it is hard to get results for, but I always care about basketball and wish more Hokie fans had stayed engaged during the down times. While I share the blame about attending games, I always listened or watched the games that were available to me, even when it was like pulling teeth. The great thing about being engaged, even when it hurts, is that when things get better, when things start going right, when the sun starts shining on our dog's ass, having been a faithful fan is a reward unto itself. No judgement, it took me a while to be able to invest regardless of result, but it has an intrinsic worth not available to more casual fans. My lifetime ticket on the Hokie hype train doesn't always pay dividends, but when our ship comes in, I know my place is front and center, and reserved decades ahead of time.

this is what I love about the NIT. You get that mix of schools who have lower seating capacity than my high school did and schools that think they should be able to draw 15K to a game, but look like ghost towns because it's a down year.
