Are the numbers from the seniors missing? I could see where seniors might get to keep their helmets since they have no more eligibility and there might not be questions of impermissible benefits.
If that's not the case, I'd bet that some of the helmets were given as gifts to donors/supporters/retiring coaches and they're just auctioning off the ones that are left.
Duke has a slightly better ranking.
Darn, I was hoping we'd still be using the tri-colored ones next year.
So a few questions that haven't been answers when I tweeted at VT football. Why are only certain numbers available? Why don't the kids get to keep their helmets? Do other items get auctioned off?
For those unfamiliar with SC HS football, Byrnes, Dorman, Spartanburg, and Gaffney have combined to win like 80% of the last 15 state titles and have been nationally ranked/traveled to play top teams from other states and are all within about 20ish miles of each other (some much closer than that) and it is really strange given that Spartanburg/Gaffney area doesn't really have anything significant about it.
Hey that hoopy Buzz Williams? Now there's a frood who really knows where his towel is.

They auctioned an autographed black helmet and orange helmet at the baseball night.
I'm not sure they started this high last year but I could be mistaken.. I thought I got the normal camo VT one a few years ago for like $350...?
$500 minimum? Ulp. That's too high...
Early bids indicate that someone really likes #32. I'm glad that people are still highlighting it. Never forget!
Love the visor, but he would benefit from one that's slightly narrower so that it properly frames his face. /fashioncommentary
Bracey was more worried about the academic ranking, especially of the engineering school at Duke vs Vt than anything.
I wasn't aware that we should be worried about our engineering school ranking.
Thanks for sharing. Now to figure out a way to convince the wife that we need to spend $500+....
No, national champs are 1st place, but the team scoring aspect recognizes 4 teams. If we take 4th, I definitely want to put it i that football case until another team wins the whole enchilada.
Not trying to spark too much of a debate, but Chase's visor game is strong. I wouldn't mind grabbing one of those visors for myself.
As a Lee Davis alum, it is nice seeing him further his playing career at Tech and represent good old Mechanicsville! Sam has set the bar for Mechanicsville walkons Chase, so no pressure!
Chase Mummau, the only thing I could think of was this song
Ronald Curry, but that worked out for us in the end. (see page 1998: Vick)
I don't really have any issue with the part of his philosophy where he doesn't want to promote a sense of entitlement. That's fine. I just think that his idea of not taking kids early coupled with his statement that he doesn't want to redshirt anyone could lead to kids getting into their first season completely unprepared for the college game.
Everyone touts getting kids on campus early as a huge positive because they get that extra time to add weight to their frame and get accustomed to the demands of college before jumping right into football season. I don't think that is seen as a huge plus for no reason. A lot of coaches like to redshirt players who aren't ready to play because they need at least a full year to prepare themselves physically and mentally. It is rare for a true-freshman to step onto the football field and be a significant contributor right off the bat. There are plenty of good reasons supporting the general tendency of coaches to want kids to get on campus as early as possible and redshirt to ensure they are ready when they do finally step on that field.
Like I said, I'm in the wait and see boat on this. I'm not calling BM a moron. I'm not even trying to imply that. I have my doubts about his philosophy but that doesn't mean I think he's dumb. Only time will tell.
I feel Ohio is an opportunity we overlook. Especially SW OH. A lot of Catholic schools and it is an easy drive to Blacksburg. Trench players could be found.
I feel like we rarely cover what attracts the top recruits the most:
1) Winning
2) A shot at going to the NFL
All in all going 7-6 isn't going to land 5 star recruits. We aren't losing these guys to nobodies, they're going to programs of recently great seasons. Take UNC as an example. They haven't historically recruited well but they JUST had a 10 win season and they've already landed five 4* recruits. We'll be fine once we get rolling and put together some wins.
Having Hubbard in the ear of all those good recruits from ocean lakes is huge

These young men really seem to have great mindsets to compete. I hope they push the hell out of everyone around them and get on the field.
Great news - I guess they are not looking at a possible redshirt since it is not a guarantee.
From your timeline, I think the projected return would probably be the Wake Forest game on Feb 28 or the BC game on Feb 23rd, but he could possibly return with limited minutes for the FSU game on Feb 20th (12 days of practice).
Our toughest remaining games are probably our next 2. I really like the chances of an NIT possibly if we can get Clarke back playing significant minutes for the final 5 games which I think are all winnable.
Including the ACCT, I think we need 4 more wins to be on the NIT bubble. 6 more wins would secure a bid.

Those are all the game-worn helmets which is why some are labeled as offense and defense for those with duplicate numbers. Other items are frequently auctioned, such as uniforms for other sports and other equipment. VT Surplus also auctions old items too if you watch the announcements.
