On a VERY brief look at his film, that's what I see too. More instinctual than AM & a little less athletic (in some ways), but with some similar technique issues. But that's as a HS player...
These guys sounds like true Hokies and having guys on the team with that much enthusiasm about the school is never a bad thing. I hope they all do what they need to do and earn a scholarship one day down the road.
That guy is insane.
Lawrence Taylor...
That is interesting that the top 4 teams take home trophies. So if you finish in 4th are you considered a national champion (and get the monkey off of VTs back)? What is the reasoning in that?
2 part question:
Who do you think we should get?
Who do you think we will/can get?
I think you're exaggerating.
UNC has been in VA for talent forever - well, at least as far back as William Fuller (all-pro), from my memory.
But having followed recruiting for a long time, it sure seems to me that VT was at its best when soundly beating UNC for VA recruits. I can't really think of a way to prove this, but I really believe it is true. I ran into the article below when briefly googling "UNC football players from VA" that is about Fedora's success in NOVA. It certainly demonstrates his use of Twitter in his success, but it also details some very familiar themes/tactics we have employed (honoring scholarships after injury).
The good news, at least for anyone (like me) that feels that UNC is a major threat, is that Fuente can beat Fedora, given a short period of time to get his feet under him. It doesn't appear to be rocket science. It is energy, persistence, social media, and face time from the head man. THAT is really what seems to be needed, and a lot of posters here seem to be zeroing in on it.
"Oh boy....."
Good eye!!!!!
On the topic of S&C: Did anyone see the Louisville/Duke game last night, specifically the part where ESPN 'highlighted' the strength and conditioning coach - man, this dude has blood pressure problems and or roid rage.
This clip is from the UNC Game, but he was going nuts in the Duke game last night.
I know we all want to think that BH is a moron, but he's probably not. I don't think he's underestimating anything. He explicitly says that he doesn't want to promote a sense of entitlement in these kids by having them come on campus early. Either he's had young and/or non-mormon students (likely) or he's done his homework. I don't think you have to agree with his philosophy to at least admit that he probably understands the challenges of his new work environment.
He's also used to 23 year old freshmen. I'm in wait and see mode as well but I have a feeling he's underestimating how many 18 year old kids there are out there who just aren't ready for college ball right away. I have my doubts and I'm not sure how long that philosophy will last in the ACC...
This is an interesting move by BH that can pay dividends. Not encouraging a player to leave HS early may be something that makes him more approachable. Also, BH may pickup some blue chippers that he wouldn't have before b/c they know they're competing for playtime immediately.
I'm not saying we don't do similar things on a case-by-case basis, but this is BH's baseline philosophy. I'm still in a wait and see mode.
I think his heart is in the right place. He wants to have fun playing the game and I think he's genuinely reaching out to children with their best interests in mind.
Carolina fans sure think so, and that's what really matters in the end. He's beloved down here.
Whit's doing Shibest he can.
Eron Carter is officially better than me in every way.
Awesome get for us.
that is damn good stuff. wish I had a bag of legs to give you!
He's putting life back into the part of the program that needed a change just as much as getting a new Head Coach. VT had fell behind in the S&C program. I love Gentry but it was Time...
Could careless about Cam's post game interview. However his child like tantrums on the field made me cringe. I'm not a Carolina fan but I felt embarrassed as a football fan. Here is the MVP of the league falling on his back and rolling around like a toddler that didn't get what it wanted. My wife's giving birth to our first kid this month and any future tantrums that I get to deal with I will call "Cam'ing". For example, I was in a grocery store the other day and this 2yr old was just started Cam'ing in the middle of the aisle. Screaming something about wanting R2D2 soup even though his mother said there were none left.

Hell, even Morgantown would be a "special place" compared to Albuquerque. Blacksburg must seem like paradise.
someone please photoshop vance vices face on kevin hart here

The decrease in landing Va talent has a lot to do with the world shrinking. We will never seal up the state like we used to. However, I don't fault the staff for making the state a priority because it's the easiest place to improve due to the geographical footprint. Similarly, we should be hitting the equivalent radius out of state. We also can't stop strategically targeting recruits that are outside the convenient footprint. So the whole virginia recruiting campaign will hopefully net a few more talented guys and will also continue to seek talent elsewhere.
Recruiting won't be fixed overnight. Road miles will pay off, but we have to come to terms with the fact that some kids just won't have us high on their list for all kinds of reasons outside our control.
