You'll normally see backups and redshirting wrestlers compete at opens and other various tournaments around the country just to get mat time and adjust to the college style. As to the other part of the question of you have a top guy at a weight 9 times out of 10 he'll be your guy no matter what the only instances I can think of where it would be different is if the starter is injured or the coach is resting him during a blowout dual.

You've got to hate that for the two kids that transferred in (Lee & Lewis) so they could have a solid chance in the tourney. However, they knew there were storm clouds on the horizon.

Here's my beef with this whole deal. The kids are the one's who will suffer the most here. The coaches get to keep doing their thing with no real ramifications while these young men miss out on some key opportunities to continue to showcase their talent and work for a National Title.

I don't think this class is damning of Fuente. It is more damning the staff that was in place trying to build these relationships. Fuente can hang his hat on Evans, Moore, and Rodgers (the more I watch, the more I think he could be an outstanding corner) and the fact that he kept kids from defecting, especially in high need spots like wide receiver.

Still, this class will have long term negative ramifications. After watching film on all the kids, I feel confident that Evans, Deablo, Kumah, Ladler (if healthy), Rodgers, Moore, Kearns, and Hewitt will be contributors. They jump out on film. When measuring the rest, there are kids that can surprise us and can be developed, but I don't see much jumping out on film. When I do, it is usually balanced out by some other concern. For this class not to turn into a 2011 type disaster, development is going to be critical.

I was greatly disappointed by some misses on NSD, but what sticks out to me is how unlikely it is the defensive guys that missed would've been major contributors right away. Obviously you get guys for 4+ years but there's nothing missed in this class that destroyed us to the point that we can't fill that role by the time we need it.

Across the board this is one of our more talented rosters, as it should be with two straight top 25 classes before this one. Ratings are increasingly accurate data sets, but when you combine several years you get a clearer picture, imo. Ultimately I believe this roster was talented enough when Fuente got here to allow for some less high-profile classes without drastically affecting on-field potential. With a new set of eyes and system on offense, I expect we will see some impact from players in past classes that haven't made their mark. Supposedly the coaches believe Deon Newsome and Stroman could both have bigger roles, along with Cline (thank god).

1) Jimmie Taylor's shoe size may be the new Jarrett Boykin gloves

2) Watch for Rodgers at defensive back. He will need to add some muscle to win physical battles, but is is very smooth in man coverage and has a great back pedal. He is well suited to play press when he gets stronger. I didn't get as good a read on his closing speed in zone coverage.

My word... I know the competition for each school is different, and the opponents skill set for each of those number sets is different, but this might not be as much of a competition as I thought. Evans numbers are mind boggling.

I'll try my best to provide answers from Wiggins on some of the questions you have above:

1. He praised the new strength coach from New Mexico and characterized him as a very high energy guy. He next emphasized that they are doing a bit more running to address the cardio that will be needed for the faster pace. He mentioned while most of the coaches were conducting the recruit nights tonight, Fuente is currently back as one of the leaders of the strength and conditioning session occurring. Also as a side note from another question when asked how big Tim Settle actually is, he mentioned that he might be a little "too big" right now but that he is working his butt off to be where he needs to be.

2. He didn't necessarily get into specific route structures, but said at the core, they are looking to have two outside receivers and one inside. Throughout the night he kept reiterating how quickly he wants to start being able to use the incoming receivers (and also work the ones currently within the program). It was refreshing to hear that his effort is to get as many receivers ready as possible as not to wear out Ford, Phillips, etc. He mentioned that the more they are out there and if they are getting worn out, that's when injuries occur. He didn't specifically address specifics about slot receivers.

3. He chuckled a bit to start his response, basically indicating after that he would line up at both spots, just as long as they get him the ball.

4. He didn't specifically address Ford and Phillips areas of improvement going forward in their system.

A few other notes:

-He indicated that they haven't decided where Durkin would fit into the new offense yet, but when asked about the quarterbacks currently there he didn't right away mention Durkin in the list along with Jerod Evans, Joshua Jackson, Brendan Motley and Duane Lawson. He added that Durkin was eagerly seeking out Cornelsen to let him know that he would like to help the team out at whatever position they see him, just wants to help the team.

-He talked very highly of Sam Rogers and what he brings to the table, and reminds him of one of the guys he had at Memphis (name is escaping me). Indicated they are looking to take advantage of his well rounded skill set handing him the ball, blocking and receiving.

-As far as HCF and his coaching style, Wiggins indicated that he is very hands on and likes to challenge his coaches with his thoughts and possible things that he's seen without micromanaging.

_Wiggins is currently assigned to the DMV recruiting wise along with Foster and was going to be reaching out to approximately 70+ high schools in the next 3 weeks or so to start establishing relationships with the schools.

Final thoughts: He briefly answered questions regarding Coach Gray's departure, noting that there's no shortage of interest for the opening. Has said that phones have been ringing off the hook with interests and referrals and even himself got a few referral calls on the way up to the event.

Overall, personally I was very impressed with Coach Wiggins. A very personable guy who tried to answer every question and even went out of his way to introduce himself to as many people as he could before heading out.

EDIT: Rogers

I read that in your update, but decided to leave this as is. Marshawn was a go too, if I remember correctly. I'm trying not to get my hopes up for Shai, but will be ecstatic if he returns to form.
