I'm not saying that I don't want to sign great 4 and 5 star players. I'm saying let the play on the field dictate how we respond to CJF. He's taking a lot of flack for a class he barely had any time to recruit. Let's see how he does with what he has.

It's easy as hell to take what I said and bend it. I distinctly said, if we won with all walk ons, I'd still be happy. If we won a Natty with all walk ons would you be upset?

Coney Durr. Very physical- but he plays a safeties game in a corner's body. Imagine Mook Reynolds, but minus any film showing how he covers man to man against a decent passing game. I like him, but outside of his willingness to tackle and solid tackling technique, it is difficult to get a feel for his upside.

There's a lot of chatter among the 'insiders' among other boards about just how bad it was recruiting wise pre-Fuente, and that includes the defensive staff.

It's a rebuilding process and Fuente has his work cut out for him.

Agreed. Supporting the program is crucial. But I see that we are heading in that direction with more recruiting support positions, the indoor facility, renovations at Merryman, etc. I just feel like these improvements and innovations are coming 4-5 years late. It will take us time to dig out of the hole and reestablish the brand.

To each their own. I was born in Iowa, still have family there, and try to get back there as often as I can! It's a great state with a lot of good people in it.

We all have to make tough choices when it comes to family and schools. My older brother got an EE degree from Tech and is the reason why I love the Hokies. Tech was my dream school and I was accepted into the engineering program out of high school. Being the 3rd of 4 kids, those dreams were crushed when my parents didn't have the funds to make it happen without going into massive amounts of debt. So, off to VCU engineering I went as they offered me money and I lived at home to save even more money. I can't fault the kid for making a decision to help out his family regardless of location. Though, I'd like to think I wouldn't be giving people any false hope through the recruiting process. This kid also passed on Tennessee as well, so good on him for looking out for family and wish him all the best. I have some Cyclone alums in my family, so there are some people happy out there with this.

We kept half of that former staff. If we are handing out blame, a lot of it lies at those coaches feet.

Day 1. Fuente Hired
Day 2. THIS GUY CANT RECRUIT, WE HAVENT LANDED A SINGLE RECRUIT AND WE AINT WON NO GAMES FIRE HIM

I think the concern is missing at positions of need. Positions need depth in case of injuries, but also to help allow players to develop. Obviously can't blame the recruits because they need to do what's best for them. VT isn't the right fit for everyone.

Looking forward to progress on both the recruiting trail and the field next year.

Note: Progress isn't always measured in wins and star ratings. Those will come with other things.

Is it just me. The first time I watched it, the first thing that popped out was, I thought he could benefit from tackling drills...

I came back about an hour later and didnt really notice it the second time, but there were still some occasions where it looks like he has trouble bringing guys down. Any one else with a real understanding of technique notice that?

Today proves that one man doesn't change a school's recruiting success overnight. The sky is dropping rain today but it is not falling. It will take a couple of years to make a difference on the recruiting trail and it takes the whole program to make the difference. The key is to maximize what we have and the barometer for success will change going forward. Don't let today's "misses" cast a cloud on the optimism this program should have right now.

Not the fastest guy, but he gets to the hole, hits the runner, and the runner goes backwards. I'll take that in a Mike.

French. Are there any more potential exciting recruits left to sign/flip? I don't like the taste today has left in my mouth so far
