They actually scout & evaluate game film in addition to assessing camp performances before rating someone at that level

First of all, that's what every scouting service does... you just described scouting in general. Not unique to ESPN

And yes they are stingy about 5 stars but NOT about 4 stars. The composite has about 340 4 stars. ESPN has easily more than that. Like Ladler being 60th overall in his state but only 50 florida players are in the espn300. Or Kyree Cambell being a 4 star at 10th overall in VA but only the top 5 VA players are espn300. Just between Texas, Florida and Cali there are an additional 55 4 stars outside of the espn300. I would guess overall they probably have close to 390 4 stars.

That is NOT being stingy with 4 star ratings. That is being more generous than the overall industry. Check the facts

Agreed, me personally I think 247 is the best with ESPN being a close second but back in the day when 247 didn't exist and ESPN was still lazy about their rankings I mostly only followed Rivals. Now it seems like 247 has past Rivals by and ESPN may be on their way too as well.

55-60 point forwards aren't really 1st line forwards in today's NHL. At least not guys that a team can rely on offensively for production. You need a least one or two guys that can put up a point a game in order to have success. If you look at all the playoff teams currently, just about every team has a guy that is scoring at that PPG pace. And of the teams that don't (LA, Tampa, etc.) the teams are really built around that depth, which the Canadiens just do not have.

They have gotten better but generally it seems like people put the most stock in Rivals or 247

You can't tell me that it is easy to follow a football if you have never grown up with the sport. Reverses, play fakes, options, fumbles, and trick plays are just as difficult to follow for someone that has never watched the sport before. Heck, even the trained professional camera guys have difficulties at times following the play.

Part of watching any sport it knowing how to watch. Hockey is a sport where you don't really need to be able to see the puck as long as you understand players movements around the puck. By understanding player movements, it is possible to know exactly where the puck is at all times, even as it's being shot 100mph through five people. Having expectations of where the puck was, and where it should be as the result of a shot is a huge part of being able watch the game without any lame glowing circles on the TV. And for most people that follow hockey religiously, the thought of having something of the sort on the screen like a glowing circle would be extremely annoying, as there are no issues with their current abilities to watch the sport.

Also, as someone that grew up watching hockey in SD, watching hockey today is a cakewalk.

Well I guess it depends what site you go too, all stars are hogwash anywya until theses kids are competing against other div I talent it is all guesstimates...
