I hate losing but damn if I am not impressed and positively giddy for the future of VT bball. When Buzz came in and there was A LOT of attrition this is precisely why. Because these guys have grown so much from last year to this year and will continue to do so. More importantly they will see that growth for themselves so that these tough losses won't affect morale (hopefully). We almost pulled this game out and would have been 5 - 1 in ACC play. crazy. And even though this loss sucks especially with it in our hands the even crazier part, and by plan, is that this team is only getting started. The rest of this season is wide open in my eyes. And next year!? the year after that!?!
From what I've heard about the kid, his development was underwhelming his senior year and that has a lot to do with the offer being pulled. With that said, its still ridiculous for them to pull this stunt 2 weeks before NSD.

FINAL UPDATE: Welp here we go. The low is floating across Texas as we speak and should begin making its way through Louisiana and into the Carolinas/Virginia here in the next 24 hours or so. The Euro really hasn't shifted its forecast at all, and thus I'm not either in the Blacksburg area with snow coming in the mid 20s but easily topping 30" if things adjust properly (the storm reorganizes properly), storm will still hit late thursday night early friday morning, think after midnight kinda stuff. Its pretty impressive to me that its original forecast (numbers and all) have held up thus far
The storm is basically gonna completely poop on the I-81 corridor and leave a wake of snow in the mid 20s that once again could easily break 30 in the right conditions
The storm should get central tennessee pretty good and most of kentucky as well leaving possibly a foot of snow in areas
Central virginia will also get hit pretty hard, looking at a foot and a halfish maybe more. Richmond is still right on the cusp of totally screwed and rainy wintry mix so I'm really curious to see how that plays out. I would go with snow there as of now (foot plus) Hampton roads is in the clear still as of now and will probably see lots of rain with a nice chance of some wintry mixes thrown in.
The Carolinas might get a little ice in places but I expect it to be basically all rain, and a lot of it as that low hugs up the coast.
I tried to cover everywhere that people mentioned. If I forgot you please leave a comment and I'll be sure to give you a good forecast. The models are basically zeroed in at this point and itd take something extremely weird to throw them off! Stay warm and stay off the roads guys!
Also slight shoutout to the stormchaser up here, he totally called the potential for severe weather tomorrow (theres a moderate risk in Louisiana which is super rare for this time of the year). Dude knows his stuff...even if he is a hurricane alum...

I realize this loss hurts, but given the effort that VT's young team gave, I can't fault them. I love this basketball squad. Even more, I love the progress Buzz Williams is making for rebuilding Hokie Basketball. He is making me a believer. And if this team comes back next year, oh man, I'm going to be hyped if they can keep this level of effort and play good ball.
I would really love to see, and I don't know how feasible it is, the ability to flip a switch. Like I said I don't know if it is really possible but I would love to see "hey our defense is really struggling today, alright offense, light it up." or "man we can't seem to gain two inches on this team, ok D lock em down."
I don't know if something like that can be done. I don't know if it is a mentality or a culture in a football team that we're here to score and that's all we do. Or we're here to not let you gain an inch and take your lunch money while we're at it but that's it.
But if Coach Fuente can combine those two mentalities we might legitimately have someone that can take us to the promised land.

I think the annoucners hit the nail on the head: that was the prototypical Marquette Big East game from a few years back. Gritty. Tough. Effort. Which had me go back to Marquette's Elite 8 season--they didn't lose a home game all season.
Grind on the road, defend Cassell at all costs. That's how the rest of this season should go. And it starts in a big way against Carolina.

i might be oversimplifying... but the NAM model is meh this far out (time wise), GFS is better, but the real deal will be when the EURO model comes out. probs in about 1.5 - 2 hours IIRC

Towards the end of last year, at an event for the first 50 student season ticket holders, Buzz said Leday had had "not a good redshirt year, a great redshirt year." Allen, fwiw, had a "good" redshirt year. So none of this is really surprising coming from Leday, but it's been a ton of fun to watch so far.

Notre Dame's forwards had to respect his shot, and with a big man out of the paint, the guards got to the basket. But what makes him such a headache for opposing coaches is that it's tough to put a smaller player on him, because they'll find their guard posted up for a relatively easy two.
I mentioned this on a game thread post...LeDay is slowing turning into a drunk, poor, infant version of Draymond Green. Give him an additional summer working on his game, I think he can turn into one of the best power forwards in the ACC.
This game was the equivalent of dominating a Mario Kart race, falling in the water in the final lap of the banshee track, recovering to pull even with the leader, and then Peach - who wasn't even in the race at all - fires a red shell which hits you right before the finish line. Screw you, Peach.

acc road games are hard... just ask uva. But ND's crowd was going crazy when they tied it in the second, like we were a ranked team or something. that coupled with the halftime lead is progress.
yeah it sucks we lost an 8 pt lead and the officiating was... shall i say "questionable" at best, this team is still trending up. hopefully the students pack cassell this weekend!

I'm sad to see him go, but I'm sure he wouldn't do it if he didn't think it was the best thing for himself. It can't be easy to leave his brothers. I wish him nothing but the best and hope he gets to have a stellar senior season (as long as we don't play MD in a bowl).
