My take on it is that it was a huge blow to the team talent-wise, especially with Ahmed and Ty's absence already hurting the team. Then, WVU dealt us another huge blow as the guys tried to figure out where their new positions and responsibilities would be. But since then each guy still left on the court has stepped up, some more than others, to become more of a cohesive team that understands how each guy is contributing on the court and how to capitalize on that. Before, with Chris playing I think it was a bit of an unfortunate crutch (much like Erick Green was) because he is able to make something happen himself whereas now the rest of the team is making things happen more for each other. I still think Seth is struggling between a "do it myself" and "do it for the team" role, but hopefully he'll land in a happy medium as conference play goes on. In any case, I LOVE the grit and fight the team is showing along with all the moral support those on the bench are providing (a whole lot less pouting than in years past!).
Barber hasnt really been a big part of the negativity. If anything, he was more like some of my other posts about this, in that he asserted his displeasure once, maybe twice and went about his business. Bitter and Berman are the ones that get the most focus of my negativity. If we want to focus on Barber though, where is his play by play tweeting of the Lady Hokies compared to his play by play of the men's games? The 5-0 score was the only tweet about the Ladies game, not even a game summary, congrats on the win type tweet after their game was over so it makes you wonder how much of it he actually watched. Barber even in his brighter note 5-0 takes a pot shot at the Athletic Department about his seating if you notice. "back here in the rafters of Cassell" so he isnt totally innocent of this expect to be catered to media crowd.
Very glad for both him and Stacy Searels. Both great guys who I am glad to see land on their feet. Now I just wish Stacy wasn't at Miami.
but you have to see that the idea that the team needed to have the meeting absolutely ASAP isn't perfect either.
you can't say that. No one knows what impact not having that talk immediately would have had. chaos theory and butterflies.
but let's say you're right. it would have no impact. Then we can also surmise that the media did not need to see Buzz absolutely ASAP either. so point is moot.
Lets be honest there are only 3 Christmas movies anyone ever needs.

Never, ever, ever take your rival lightly. Ever. Doesn't matter how good you are, doesn't matter how bad they are, your rival is always capable of knocking you off because they play you often enough, and circle the game often enough, to intimately know your weaknesses and exploit them.
Reading this caused me a lot of emotional pain because it made me think of football and our non-conference "rivals". I hate to say it, but ECU has become a rival of ours, and too many times have we let them exploit us.
But back to UVa, I definitely think the UVa players were set on cruise control up until about 5ish minutes left in the game. That is when I noticed their faces went from "Meh, no big deal that we're only winning by 4 or losing by a handful" to "[expletive-deleted] who are these Hokie ballers and why are they still winning?" You would have thought that given the mutual hatred between the two schools they would have been furious they weren't ahead by at least 10 points by the first media timeout!
Me too. I hope he develops into a great coach and we get to welcome him back one day.
I'm in the minority here but I'm going to miss him and his family.

Missed the first quarter of Clemson-Oklahoma (at work), and then couldn't watch Bama-MichSt because New Years Eve. Dumb. Dumb dumb dumb dumb. So mad at college football.
If time was of the absolute essence to salvaging the team's year, why even take the 10 minutes to get everyone into the locker room, why not do it in the hallway, or Coach Carter style on the darn court right then?

I love that he used the "Buzz's Boy" term as that is basically what Lyle was last year and to an extent is this year. He is definitely grooming him to move up in the coaching world, but him and GA Will Gipe are his "go-for" guys.
My old tradition was to watch all of the movies I got for Christmas on New Year's Eve, waiting for the ball to drop. I haven't done that in years, though, between work and football schedules. (And also a decrease in movies I get at Christmas, because I'm more likely to buy them throughout the year.)
But I realized the other day that I'll probably never do that again, because of football (or work in the years that the playoffs are on 1/1.)
Way late replying to this but yes, we went to the game and persuaded 4 other VA Hokies to come up for a visit and go to the game with us.
Sugar Bowl also locked a deal in for January 1. I imagine that's the bigger road block, having two games locked in on January 1.
I had the Clemson-Oklahoma game on and watched parts of it in between getting things together and getting dressed to head out to a friend's house for a NYE party.
I missed the entire Alabama-Michigan State game because the setup at the NYE party didn't allow for music to be played through the sound system if the TV was on...priority was place on the music since I live in a god forsaken part of the US where no one cares about college football...except for the ones who kind of care about FCS...sigh...
This is kind of a tangent off of your post but it's something I recently found about my hybrid that I wasn't anticipating. Due to the car's ability to recoup energy during the braking process, something all hybrids and EV vehicles do, the wear on the actual brake pads is almost negligible. I have 66,000 miles on my car and the pads look brand new.
Just an interesting tidbit I wanted to share.
Didn't miss anything in that second game.
