His saber technique is fine for what he does (not fight other people with lightsabers). I find that is technique and lightsaber design is very telling to the kind of person he is, unpolished, jumpy, and angry.

Staff on 247 said Loeffler already has a pretty good gig set up. You wouldn't believe how much people were losing it about that one. You'd think that the guy had personally wronged each and every one of them instead of leaving the offense in a fuentastic position going forward.

While I agree (and am entertained) by most of what you said, I believe that while he's not yet reached the status of Jedi or Sith Lord MASTER, I do believe he is above padawan status and in full-fledged jedi knight level. It's just that his saber technique leave MUCH to be desired. My (limited) analysis is that his saber is more designed for broader and harder strokes to maximize impact and destruction, not for typical caber fencing.

Ha I think I did too, but I think I got lured in more by Whit's handling of Beamer's exit, just the humility of that entire leadership, including Bud and Fuente, I thought was outstanding, and honestly I had been planning on joining for a few years, but never pulled the trigger

Im actually trying to get more involved does anyone know the volunteer contact?

This is part of the reason why I don't believe that Rey is Luke's daughter. Kylo Ren's moments of weakness are basically all when he encounters his family. The fact that he can't kill Rey in the lightsaber dual, to me, suggests that she is some sort of Kryptonite to him. He gets emotionally weak when Han shows up, though Ren ultimately succumbs to the dark side when he kills him, but then his powers are weak in comparison to what we would expect when he duals Rey.

Either that, or we have a major inconsistency somewhere that will have to be patched up. Ren suddenly going from world-beating badass to whiny teenager just strikes me as odd, without some underlying circumstance.

At first I thought he was extremely powerful. Have you ever seen someone freeze a blaster shot in mid air? (I know Darth Vader deflected Han's in Empire Strikes Back in Cloud City but he didn't freeze it). After the opening seen, I was thinking "this guy is legit". Even the scene where he levitated his own commander and brought him over to choke him, I was impressed. However, maybe Vader was more efficient by just choking people from a distance.

Then as the movie went on, he became more whiny (must truly want to be like Anakin). Evidently he's only powerful against people who aren't "strong in the ways of the force" because when he confronts Rey, it becomes apparent that he's still a "padawan" (apprentice?) of the dark side.

My impression of Ren during the movie:
First Half = Darth Maul (absolutely a badass)
Second Half = Anakin Skywalker in episodes 2 & 3 (whiny brat that I grew tired of watching)

Hopefully, the next two movies take him back to being a badass.

EDIT:

Based on tape which means nothing:

Evans has a quicker release than Lawson had in high school, but that was High School so who knows how far hes come since working on that with Loeffler. If I had to take a bet I would say it's Evans to lose, but thats purely based on speculation from what it feels like.

Physically they are all pretty similar:

Motley: 6'3 221
Lawson: 6'6 230
Evans: 6'4 225

It would be pretty interesting to see who would win in a footrace ha.

I hope its a real competition and they all progress rapidly under Fuente. I think its going to come down to between the ears, who can pick up the playbook, read the defenses properly and know where to go with the football.

Justin Fuente made a really classy move by tweeting his support of Memphis today. I love that we have a coach with that amount of character. I'll be watching the bowl at 12, as well. We should get more of a view into how Fuente left his impact, and see more on Brad Cornelson. Go Memphis!

Don't forget the fact that most Jedi/Sith where force sensitive individuals that where then trained to become Jedi/Sith. It is completely in the realm of possibility that the Rey is a person with a strong connection with the force and has no relation to any old characters. Her ancestry may not have any Jedi/Sith at all. I think this explanation would be much better for the Star Wars universe. We already know that being a Skywalker is not a prerequisite for being a Jedi, I want to see them bring that back. Rey being a Skywalker would be too limiting to the story.

Unlikely his numbers would have continued to mirror Deshaun's over the course of a season, we had a very small sample size. He did play well at times but I do not think he will win the job next season.

Then I'd imagine Motley is the backup either way (assuming he doesn't win the starter job) and whoever loses out between Lawson and Evans takes a redshirt.

Agreed, numbers alone should not have gotten him fired. He had a winning record, two 10 win seasons and a division title. His offense didn't work sometimes, but then again, every NFL offense has bad games. Regardless, idk if he would/will ever be a great NFL coach but there has to be more to this than just on field performance.

One of my favorite moments as a Hokie basketball fan was going straight from a class of mine to Cassell in 2013 as VT took on WVU during ESPN's 24 hour marathon. VT came back from a 17 point 1st half deficit. It was a blast watching Bob Huggins having a meltdown as his WVU squad unraveled.

Ben Emelogu had 22 points, Adam Smith had 19 points. I was convinced that the James Johnson era was on the right track.

It was really the only chance I had to take in the VT-WVU rivalry and I enjoyed every minute of it.

ECU? Motley was 20-35 for 281 with a TD and an INT, 85 rushing yards and a rushing TD. Motley WAS our offense against ECU. He played his ass off in a monsoon and came up one play short on a day the defense couldn't tackle a toddler.

I believe I read when he signed that he has 3 years to play 2. So that would mean that yes, he is eligible for a redshirt.

My question is, as a JUCO, is Evans eligible for a redshirt? I know he has two years of eligibility, but is that within a three year window?
