In regards to Football, I think coach Beamer said it very eloquently when he announced his retirement. (Paraphrasing here) He mentioned the losses were "heavier and the wins not as satisfying. I just want to watch a game were we are moving the ball and if we punt or settle for a field goal is because the opposing defense made a great play... Not because we shot ourselves on the foot!
So I don't like the prequels? Dang, I have been wrong about my own feelings about them for years.

Hell yes it is an addiction! My wife reminds me I have a problem all the time. And as any addict would I'm going to defend my addiction by justifying it.
1- My addiction is social so its not a "problem".
2- The money I spend on my addiction goes to the Blacksburg and VT communities so I'm really giving back.

The irony.
To me, basketball hasn't been disappointing in the least. We were at less than zero. Missing Hill and Outlaw right now hurts and Seth Allen has not been what I had hoped. But my goodness, we have some very good young talent, we have some height and depth, and our players know what to do with the basketball when they cross half court.
In football, I'm buying what Lefty said about similarities in offenses and I think Coach Fu will improve our competence there immediately. Conversely, I think it will take 2-3 years to develop enough depth across the board necessary to crack the Top 10-15 and I think we'll know what Fu can do at that point. But can we compete next year with Pitt, UNC, and Miami for the division? Quite possibly.
Finally, there is a change coming to VT football on the field that almost no one is talking about...and that is Bud is no longer going to be a position coach. I think that could be a significant plus.

# | Discussion: Will the outcome of the Independence Bowl have any lasting effect on you? While I agree that this game isn't super important, I don't buy all the people saying "I don't care if we lose." It's not like we are playing a top 10 team and are expected to lose. I can understand those losses as long as they aren't embarrassing. We have no business losing to Tulsa. If we lose, I'll be pissed. And it starts the offseason on a bad note. Yes I'll probably move on more quickly, but I still want a win. You don't play games to lose. You play to win. Excited to see Beamer coach his last game and usher in the Fuente era. Haven't been this excited for spring ball since ever probably.
I think if either hasn't won a natty in 29 years it'll be time for them to go
