Not even going to get into Buzz because there's no reason, imo. Whit guaranteed him plenty of time to land him. VT was very fortunate.

As far as football, we can't really assess how many years Fuente "deserves" without knowing the criteria for success. We can define the bare minimum but I expect this question is leaning towards how much success is "enough success." And I don't think there's any way of knowing that right now, but I suspect in 3-4 years we will have a much better idea of VT's ceiling. If Fuente can truly give the VT fans the offense we have craved and Bud stays Bud (and Bud's best usually coincide with our best O's), then I think this program can get back to previous levels consistently.

I do think Fuente gives us our best chance, assuming it's possible, of becoming a yearly national contender again because of how even more important quarterback play has become. The SEC has diminished with a severe QB drought. My belief is VT could have a solid resurgence with current caliber QB's in a better offense, and sustained defensive performance. However, if our QB situation experiences a significant improvement, look out. IMO, Fuente will show us if it can be done.

It sounds like all the people that have gotten my name wrong all my life were the ones that programmed your autocorrect.

I am disappointed that my use of #justintime went over so poorly. I don't correct people for grammar and spelling, but it was right there.

Judging a new football coach before three years doesn't lend itself to firm conclusions. Struggles in years one and two can possibly be growing pains as a new scheme is installed. Instant success with another coach's recruits doesn't tell us anything about a coach's staying power. I think we have to wait until the results in 2018 before we can have any kind of certainty about Justin Fuente as a P5 head coach, and his fit with Virginia Tech.

I have never had autocorrect change a name on me before. Very odd.

Nicely stated, sir. I don't think it was your intent, but what you wrote actually makes me more excited for what Fuente is bringing, as I think it fits the personality of VT really well.

I was just curious why you thought a system coach could do it faster. I fully expect to see 2014 Memphis numbers within three years, with the potential to see 2015 Memphis numbers if we get the right QB. My expectation is annual contention for the Coastal, multiple ACC championships, and an outside shot at a playoff berth if Fuente gets his guys.

I think you are way off base. When coaching changes are made it takes time, typically 4-5 years, before you really get to see what state the team is going to be in with a new coach. Football might be a bit faster just because Fuente is coming in to a team with a lot of talent. Basketball could take longer just because the team was decimated when he took it over. Being disappointed in the performance of our basketball team right now is just absurd.

I was going to donate the $30K that the Key Play still needs to hire a full time beat writer... but I just love you guys so much that....

Happy Festivus everybody!!!!!
