# | TJ Jackson Follows Love of Football, Fondness of "Hitting People" to Virginia Tech Obviously this is low level competition but this dude is an absolute beast! He is in the backfield on defense and blocks 10 yards downfield on O. Shows a mean streak. Reminds me of Bobby Massey who committed to VT early unranked, decommitted and went to Ole Miss and the NFL. Guessing TJ also went to no camps etc so stayed under the radar.....excited about this guy.
2Chainz and Kendrick both came to VT before they blew up. I just think VT is so far out of the way, no artist who is going to attract more than the capacity of Burruss is going to come this way. Even if an artist was touring, they'd probably go up/down 95, not 81.
I saw Chiddy Band, Lupe, third eye, and a few other artists/bands in Burruss. It's definitely an unusual venue, but I just don't think a 'concert hall' is a good investment.
ECU series has done nothing to help recruiting, which was the main argument in support of it. I think losing to those types of teams has become more acceptable now with the quality of coaches coming from that level but there is no question that the series did hurt our program, and it's perception.
Similar to Buzz responding to why we played Radford at Radford with "well it was agreed to before I was here," this series is an example of poor judgement at the end of Weaver's tenure.
Having said that, I think we should play this series until we beat them several years in a row and then re-evaluate our options.
It may very well be a fit in every aspect except for throwing BYU's traditional offensive philosophy out the window in favor of a system that will hamstring any future non-option coaches. That's really their prerogative though.

Yeah. I'm not sure what's going on with that situation but it looks like there will be some news on it tomorrow.
What's stupid is ranking coaches...and pretty much everything else these days.
Well according to the HokiesFB twitter he has signed his grant in aid. Non-binding from what I understand but still.

I don't really agree with these sentiments. Niumatalolo has had a fair amount of success at Navy (see this year) and also deals with unique recruiting circumstances, so I can see how it would be a logical fit. However, the pool of available candidates after Niumatalolo is what I would consider concerning if I were a BYU fan.

Decision time soon for Denmark
Denmark, who is an early graduate, said he has been in touch with new Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuente as well. At this point, Denmark said it's too close to call on his ultimate decision.

I do agree with the sentiments above for him not being taken out of the game/diagnosed by team doctors, I think it's terrible that they didn't do that during the game or VERY shortly after. But it is a VERY impressive feat to be able to play through injuries like that and not be a complete liability to the team. Such a huge display of mental toughness and competitiveness....perhaps a little too extreme yes, but nonetheless a great teaching tool for coaches at every level!
FWIW, I think the ECU series is a mistake. Play them once in a while is one thing, but a decades long series is bad. Even if we were winning the series, it is still a boost to their program in terms of exposure and recruiting effort. Why build-up a competitor, especially one that shares receuiting territory with us?

I don't think it's stupid to have religious requirements if you are a religious organization.
I just think it's stupid to whine about a lack of qualified candidates.

Well, I mean, they are a Mormon university. They make the athletes they recruit agree to abide by Mormon teachings, why not the coach?
Better than playing the Liberty and William and Mary's of the world. Yes I would rather see another ACC game or more home and home series for variety, but there could be worse teams to play.
Hokie Twitter is blowing up with "grant in aid" letters coming in. So far Deabolo, Denmark, Jackson, Taylor, Kumah and Lalder are all in.

It says a lot about the pool of available candidates that their #1 guy is a triple option coach.
Might be insensitive of me but if the coach must be active Mormon, they deserve to end up with a weak coach. It's stupid to limit your search because of religious requirements

The main reason why we have the series is because it's easy to schedule and cost effective while keeping an at least mildly competitive matchup. I wouldn't necessarily count on games against them 10 years in to the future since a lot can change before then.
