Agreed, there's a lot of money and hand wringing involved. Plus I see this as an improvement over our annual MAC opponent we used to play at least one of every year. I think I saw every MAC team that was in the league between 02 and 07. Marshall with Leftwich was the only one I remember thinking "this will be a good, fun game" when the schedule came out.

I would say it's about 60/40 between the DB making up ground and legitimately trying to interfere and the ball being underthrown causing the WR to slow or stop and the DB not being able to react in time.

They are no longer in a conference and not alot of teams want to schedule them for home and home. I think even the holy war is off for a bit.

Winning wasn't a problem for Mendelhall or for Lavell Edwards. There's even a national championship thrown in there. That's better than us.
I disagree. Playing JMU, W&M, Richmond, and UVA helps the small schools in the state. Those schools don't have the athletic budgets we do, so playing those games really gives them a boost financially. That helps us with HS coaches because they know we are looking out for the schools where their guys may end up going if they don't have 1A talent.
If ECU wants to get that kind of boost, then it should be on NC schools to do it. I'm okay with a h&h with them, but not every single year for the foreseeable future.
Most of the hatred of this matchup is spurred from us losing to them. The solution is to win. There's not a reasonable argument to hate them.
I don't agree with this entirely. The match-up is a lose-lose for us. Winning doesn't help us in any way. If we win, which you claim would dissolve all the hatred, VT does not benefit from the win in any way other than having an additional W in the results column.
Whether it is fair or not doesn't matter, the fact is ECU is regarded as a middle tier program and VT will be favored in every single game we play against ECU. In this age of the playoff, where SOS is important, ECU does nothing but drag our strength of schedule down. They are a good enough team that wins are not a sure thing but a bad enough team that playing them close or losing looks really really bad. Instead of playing ECU every single year I would much rather replace those games with home-and-home series with a variety of other teams. I realize we won't be able to get P5 FBS teams to fill out the entirety of the schedule but if we're going to play mid-major teams let's get some variety. ECU is boring because we play them more than half the teams in our own conference.
Maybe we could rotate around with ECU, UNC-Charlotte, Marshall, and ODU? The purpose was a local mid major that was somewhat competitive that could fill a schedule slot.
The next several years are stacked with OOC games, Tennessee, the cousins, Penn State, Michigan, etc. There shouldn't be any concern about our strength of schedule.
If the ACC goes to 9 games, we have one P5 matchup, one FCS team, and one of the local mid majors. Rotate one of those with Notre Dame, when it's our turn to beat them. Having ECU on the schedule just means that third game is set in stone.
There is a strong positive correlation between how crazy Helena Bonham Carter acts and how hot she is.
Looking at the future schedule and VT has 2 P5 OOC schools lined up almost every year:

They wouldn't replace ECU with another P5 school unless/until the P5 schools break away from the bottom feeders.
