Their statistical category for Offensive Rating is how many points they score or help produce over 100 possessions. Currently this season, Wilson has a 137.4 rating, Robinson has a 101.8 and Allen has a 99.6. The key thing to keep in mind is the help produce, which is where Wilson exceeds everyone on the team.
They have the same information for Defensive Rating, and in that Wilson is a 100, Robinson is a 102.9, and Allen is a 99.7. This says overall that Allen is allowing the fewest points per 100 opponent possessions.
The big key to look at though is the differential between the two ratings for Overall Effectiveness. Wilson is a +37.4 points produced overall, while Robinson is a -1.1 and Allen (much improved over the last four games) is a -0.1. Four games ago Allen had the third worst differential on this team excluding Galloway and Donlon.
Specifically to turnovers, Allen is averaging 6.5 TO per 100 possessions, Robinson is 5.1 and Wilson is 2.3. Wilson takes care of the ball much better than the other two guards here.

Yo.. I thought I was the only one who was aggravated at the online broadcast and the graphics. The Big South Sports broadcast was like a Hokie Sports webcast, with Jefferson Pilot production.
I get what you're saying, but I would throw in a caveat there: 5 (or 8 or 10) years of consistent and mediocre, or downward trending. Take CJF, for instance. He will inherit a 7-6 team fresh off tier 12 bowl win. Say his first 5 years look like this:
year 1: 7-6, crappy bowl win
year 2: 8-5, crappy bowl win
year 3: 8-6, coastal title, ACCCG loss, tier 1 bowl loss
year 4: 10-4, coastal title, ACCCG win, NY6 bowl loss
year 5: 10-4, coastal title, ACCCG loss, tier 1 bowl win
I don't see him looking around at this point unless he truly feels like that's tech's ceiling (also known as beamerball, cause let's be honest, at our best, that's what we could manage consistently). If by year 8 he has us consistently in the ACCCG and in the 8 team playoff conversation, I don't see Tech looking around either, so long as it seems like he and his family are happy to be in Blacksburg.
I've also thought it wouldn't be hard to put a transmitter in the ball and sensors along the side lines, goal lines, goal posts, etc. It removes all doubt about spot of the ball, etc. The only thing that remains is possession, foot in bounds, and a few other judgment calls. Combine that with officials wearing hat-cams and you have yourself a 21st century approach to football.

The Big South didnt include their third tier game rights in their current package with Sinclair Broadcasting so all of their schools have the ability to utilize the conference streaming package to make additional revenue. ESPN would have had to pay extra to add this game even to their online content as they do not have a deal with the Big South.
Tech on the other hand turned over all of its third tier rights to ESPN as part of the ACC package so we cant negotiate even our bad home games to other media outlets.

Mendenhall, like Richt and Miles and maybe even Ruff McNeil, had grown stale at his school. It wasn't going to get any better. BYU won 9 games this year, two on Hail Mary's. They are playing in the Las Vegas Bowl, where they play like every other year. That's it for BYU under Mendenhall. Time to walk away. If he didn't walk away and if BYU cared about their program with the passion of UGA, it was time for the two to part ways one way or another. {BYU has extenuating circumstances, they must have an LDS coach, so they really shouldn't FireTheirCoach because they have a very limited group to select from}.
Coaches get stale. Usually its around 8 years. But schools are scared and stretch it out to 10 or 11 or....in UGA's case, 15. That's too long for a coach. That's why Buzz Williams said "You'll fire me eventually" even though he's the most accomplished coach in school history.
We love Justin Fuente, but by Year 5, he should be looking around (See Dan Mullen). By Year 8, we should be looking around. By year 10, we both should be ready to walk away from one another.
This doesn't mean that Richt is a bad coach or Mendenhall or McNeil or Miles when he's fired next year. It just means that they are a bad coach in that situation.
We finished last night slightly better than the 1 for 2 mark at 15-28. We are averaging 33.44 attempts per game after last night, and making 22 of those on average. So far this season we are now 198-301 at the line.
Whats scariest about the fact that we have scored that much at the line? It means that 27% of our total offense has come from the free throw line on the year so far. As we get into the ACC schedule I expect to see our attempts and thus our made shots go down because the talent level of our opponents defensively will ramp up significantly and cut down on our guards being able to drive in for easy fouls. This could have a major impact on keeping us in games once the ACC schedule starts.
I had 2nd row seats for the NW game. When VT called the last time out to set up the last play in OT, I could see in Allen's eyes - he was exhausted. And it was obvious that his # was called for the play with Clarke as the backup if the defense collapsed on Allen. In the middle of the play the NW coach goes nuts calling for a collapse on Allen and it came. He adapted, but was too tired and he goofed his dribble just when he was gonna split the defense. You could see the play unfolding and that screw up lead to the wild pass to Clarke and his last second shot. It was an "Oh Darn!" moment, that could have been a for sure score tieing (sp) layup or dunk, maybe with a foul to win!
I wouldn't call that scenario "maddening". He had taken it to the hole the entire game and hit a great mix of outside set shots and drives which made the D have to respect him everywhere. The kid has it when he is on.
A better measure of his ability/desire to play team ball is how many assists he has and if he dishes off and the receiving offensive player gets a foul and a potential trip to the line.
Which is a travesty if you ask me...
We talk about how hard it must have been for CJF to recruit to Memphis, but you can easily argue that BYU is a harder place to recruit. I don't think you can make a definitive call on Mendenhall's recruiting prowess just because he struggled at BYU. I think even Urban Meyer would struggle there.
The interesting thing about these articles, from the outside perspective UVA, made a really good hire, one that I think everyone agrees was above what we as Hokie fans desired for them.
But, it looks like from the BYU perspective, hes a coach who cant recruit, can only win 8 games against lesser competition and his timing is coming to an end...
I like the latter perspective on the hire much better than the prior, outsiders perspective.

I wish we had a stream deal like the big south. Other than not being able to cast it directly to my television and the same Hardee's commercial on repeat, I thought it was pretty damn convenient. Really pathetic that we couldln't draw enough attention for an espn3 stream.
But anyways.. Blackshear must really be hurting, watching him run the court is one of the most bizarre motions I have ever seen. I was hoping to see more from Leday against Radford's bigs. I think he is really going to quiet down when playing against ACC bigs.
It was fun to see Jalen use that motor again last night. It's even more fun to see how Chris Clarke never takes a play off. I finished watching the Tech game and quickly hopped over to see the conclusion of my beloved Celtics against the Bulls. At this point, it's easy to make comparisons to Jae Crowder and Jimmy Butler. I can totally see Clarke spending 3-4 years in Blacksburg and being a steal for somebody on draft night.
I get what you're saying about the 6-hour driving distance, but that includes all of Virginia.
That's not to say VT can't recruit out of state as well, but Virginia should absolutely be the prime target for VT recruiting.
It shouldn't be VA, it should be a radius. Charlotte is easier to access than NoVa from BBurg. If the talent level is the same, then why would spend extra effort to stay in VA? I just think fans need to stop talking about 'winning the state' and start talking about 'winning our target areas' (which is not restricted to the state, but rather an X hour radius that includes VA, MD, and NC).
Interesting to hear the Hokies lead the country in Free throws attempted per game. Would love to convert some of these. Got to the point last night where I was just hoping for 1 out of 2. Gotta be tougher.
Yeah, having gone to that game was one of the reasons I wanted to buy this.
For what it's worth, Clemson's Littlejohn Coliseum is currently undergoing renovations. It will take the capacity of the arena from approximately 10,000 to approximately 8,500, and the construction also includes adjacent facilities for the men's and women's basketball teams.
In my opinion, Clemson is a fairly decent comparison for Virginia Tech. The town of Clemson itself, like Blacksburg, is very much focused around the university. Additionally, the closest metro area to Clemson is Greenville, SC which is a reasonable comparison to Roanoke (though Roanoke is slightly bigger in area/population).

Conte played at Blessed Sacrament which is a private school. He was homeschooled and played on a team just for homeschooled players but I believe he finished at a private school.
