No three point attempt is worth forcing, but there were opportunities in the second half that allowed for open three point shots that our shooters bypassed. Maybe Buzz instructed them not to take the shots but it makes driving into the lane so much harder if you allow a team to only have to defend half the offensive zone.

do you think the scarcity of 3pt attempts in the second half could just be a function of how the game was going? I mean, could the team have decided that threes weren't worth forcing given the lead they had coming out of the locker room?
This is off topic, but I want to get tickets to the Syracuse game at the Carrier Dome. Does anyone have experience with this venue? What are the "away" sections for Basketball? Can I trust what I buy on Stub Hub?
They're both from the end of last season, but might explain why Mendenhall was willing to leave this year.
Thoughts on three players:
Blackshear -- He's got so much skill. Still a bit of a European, not really physical with his size. It could be that he was a 6'7" forward a year ago and now he's a 6'10"+ center. But with more experience, he's going to take those forward skills and do some serious damage with them at his size. Buzz couldn't seem to take him out, he was so productive. It was interesting that Pierce was such an important cog in Florida and against NW, but in this game, didn't see the floor. That's Buzz' rotations though, you never can tell.
Allen -- He will drive you nuts. There are times when he is in the game and you can just see him chomping at the bit to shoot it. And when he goes hard to the rim successfully, you can bet the next 2-4 possessions will feature the same move. He just absolutely loses himself outside the offense sometimes. But he's got skills. Just hope he can harness it more and more as the season goes on.
Wilson -- I totally undersold him. He really is the calming force on the team. When we had a handful of possessions lead to bad shots, here comes Wilson off the bench. He's a necessity for this team. He's the adult in the room.
Finally, FT shooting is contagious. Some nights, it goes like that. We don't have great FT shooters, but they aren't that bad. Allen, Bibbs and Hudson need to be better at the line. Robinson and Clarke look pretty good at the line to me. LeDay is usually pretty good. KJB is a nightmare at the line right now, but I think it might be his foot injury.

VT doesn't try and win the state just to say they did it. VT tries to win the state because presumably that's where VT's program is best known, it's local, and that's where their relationships are. VT has to look at what they need, and not every recruit is going to fit that, but I'd suggest that many of the top 20 recruits in the state meet those criteria.
VT has to go where the talent pipelines are, but winning the top recruits from the state of Virginia isn't a bad goal. Just the ones they think they can use, not for bragging rights.
I don't really care where the pipelines are, as long as they're productive and being developed. It just may be that the top talent within a certain distance of the school is more accessible. Some kids probably don't want to be all that far from home, and may have friends there already. Doesn't hurt to have pipelines to other talent resources as well. The odds are better of getting a recruit if other recruits from his school went to VT.
Teams know this. That's why UMD just hired Mike London. They don't need to win Virginia, but they sure would like to.

There's a reason that VT, UVa, and Maryland are really, REALLY focused on the state of Virginia in terms of their recruiting. It's because there is a lot of talent there.
VT, in particular, should target this area because that's VT's largest fan base.
If it's worth other schools traveling two or three times the distance that VT has to travel to get those recruits, or them setting up camps to gain access, it's certainly worthy of VT's effort. I get what you're saying about the 6-hour driving distance, but that includes all of Virginia.
That's not to say VT can't recruit out of state as well, but Virginia should absolutely be the prime target for VT recruiting.

I don't like the newest album as much as Under Pressure either; it kind of feels like an Under Pressure 1.5 to be honest, just with better skits and a cooler concept. However, it's growing on me the more I listen to it. Definitely not a bad album, just expected a little more.
I mean while he was at the school. I'm happy to see more coaches who didn't play the game I'm just surprised he didn't take his obvious skill at the job to Frank and Co while he was already a student.
He could have been a student manager, it isn't clear. It is clear that volunteered at BHS and that he GA'd elsewhere.
Who would consider London? He just took a job for MERRYLAND D line coach.
I just learned about Papuchis this week as well. I was looking through Rivals recruiting database to see which coaches from other schools were recruiting Virginia. I was really surprised to learn about everything you listed about Papuchis. VT grad, great experience, now working at UNC but is recruiting VA/MD.
Another guy I'm interested in is Lonnie Galloway, WR coach at WVU. Played at Western Carolina, coached at Elon, Appy St, ECU, Wake and WVU. Recruits VA/NC/MD for WVU now. They just gave Holgersen a one year stay, so if I'm a guy like Galloway, time to freshen up that resume.
Then there are the two UVA coaches we should be interested in: Chris Beatty and Chip West. Most know Beatty's name, he was a HS coach in VA in the 757, has coached WR and RB at WVU, Vandy (under Franklin), Illinois, Wisky and UVA. Chip West is the guy credited for all those good UVA commits (Brown, Blanding, Harold, Smoke, Nicholson). Has been recruiting coordinator and CB's coach at UVA since 2010. Before that, came up through the FCS ranks, including JMU and ODU*. Probably the best 757 recruiter out there. To get him, you let him coach Rover/Whips and name him recruiting coordinator, pay him $300K. And it takes him away from Bronco's staff, where he would be very valuable.
(*of note, West background is similar to Burden's. If you think Burden can become West, then you roll with him)
It seems the likely scenario for these last two slots is Burden and Scott. But one of Galloway/Beatty and one of Papuchis/West may be a better recruiting staff.
