Nicely stated. It's amazing how quickly Justin Fuente has assimilated into the culture of VT. He hasn't had a single misstep thus far, and has said all the right things. He already feels like he's one of us.
Having watched odu games at the Ted in both general seating and the sponsored boxes, i can say this is exactly how i would go.
The boxes are largely paid for through the sponsors and there was never a shortage of food and drink(maybe not possible with tech) sales. My wife enjoyed the experience while the guys loved the game. Its still a loud arena but comfortable for the fans not looking to squeeze in the commoners seats.
The upgrades in 2004ish(?) were great but its time to go to next level.
A tourney bid would solve alot. Remember we didnt do much for upgrades prior to the early 2000s with regards to football.

Bud's the only one allowed to rock a goatee and not have reflect poorly on him and his family. I mean, it looks like he was born with one. It's like a naturally occurring rock formation, cut into his face after exposure to the elements for eons.

If he made up his mind already that he isn't coming back, he is likely seeking treatment and rehabilitation outside of the Hokie circles. Exum had NFL dollars at stake and went to James Andrews for his ACL repair.

What I'm saying is selling seats/boxes whatever to major donors mean that those seats will not have butts in the them every game. People are complaining about attendance, I'm saying that location prevents sellouts every game in basketball, but that's it's ok because Tech can sell high end seats for,more mo sh even if people are not in them.
If we are going to have a LB coach other than Foster, I wouldn't mind seeing Fuente bring in a new face from outside the current Memphis/VT staffs. A guy I really like is John Papuchis, LB coach at UNC. Here's why:
1. He's a Virginia Tech grad (although he never played football for VT)
2. He has worked with some of the best Defensive minds in college football: Saban, Muschamp, Pelini, and now Chizik. Why not add Bud Foster to that list?
3. He is very well rounded - DC experience, coached DL, DE, LB, and Special Teams (was one of four finalists for the FootballScoop Special Teams Coordinator-of-the-Year Award in 2010), as well as Recruiting Coordinator.
4. Very solid recruiter with ties to the mid-atlantic region - grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
5. Exclusive Power 5 experience - Kansas, LSU, Nebraska, UNC
6. I would love to steal a quality guy away from Fedora/Chizic. Look at how much improvement they have made on defense in just one year.
7. Did I mention that he is a VT grad?
I think it's fairly easy to recruit for. Now getting top quality kids maybe not but every class there will fill up with whomever you want that is Mormon with a healthy dose of Pacfic Islander and some kids from the West.
It couldnt rival the excitement they had for Groh. They were convinced that Beamer and the lowly Hokies were done. Its hilarious how it turned out for em.
not sure i understand. you mean they will ALWAYS be empty because having premium seats means added financial revenue?
premium seats allow you to name sale each box. "this premium box seating sponsored by such and such". for renting out for large party groups. for recruit hosting. for student give aways. and most importantly for donor hosting.
not having these seats means you lose all of that. do we need boxes on each corner? maybe not. But it needs premium seats.
it also allows for the students to get down to courtside because you provide an outlet for the donors that do go to games and want the best seats.
so will the be empty? maybe. probably. does that matter? no, not even a little.
build the seats.

I have said this same thing for years. I am ok eith uva going 11-2 every year. As long as their loses are us and any other keeping them out of the natl champ.
According to 247 evidently the Director of Athletics met with the team to talk to them about the firing. Needless to say that team wasn't very happy with the decision and how it was handled...
I think that's true, but I'd like to see more students there.
I like Buzz's idea of getting more students next to the floor as well. It may go hand in hand with some more boxes for premium seating.
recruiting is not a random exercise.
the fact is the star salesmen overlook the vast majority of the best players. the 5 stars are the easiest to identify. the 4 stars next. but if you don't see a top player's potential and i do, it isn't luck or chance.
I agree that's why there will ALWAYS be empty seats especially at a place not in a major metro area like Blacksburg.

the economics of premium seats far outweigh these seats being empty for some games.
I know little about Mendenhall because I haven't watch many BYU games over the last decade, but I know he has had some success there. As such, I'm disappointed with their hire because I would have preferred to see them forced to resort to having a GA serve as interim coach next year after being rejected by every candidate they interviewed.
Seriously, though, I'm sure the majority of the fans are relieved that the hire didn't just avoid being a complete debacle, but actually produced what seems to be a very solid hire. Hopefully, though, the culture over there remains the same and continues to keep the football program snake-bitten for another 50 years.
Barring another injury he will be full go for the combine. A meniscus tear is a pretty minor injury.

Luckily with mendenhall dealing with all those wives, he can handle the estrogen level at uva.
