Hey, that water stat is important.
"Why?", you ask.

Because water is "the Key" for 2 important things in life- coffee and beer.

The better the water, the better the things made from them.

Hoping for another "38-0 Bro!" moment come Saturday afternoon.

This game always has me nervous because losing to UVA always sucks and listening (reading status updates on Facebook) to their insufferable fans sucks even more. Unfortunately, I was at the game in 2003 with my brother-in-law and father-in-law when we last lost to them. My brother-in-law was a D1 QB and played against VT on several occasions, so he doesn't have much love for the Hokies. However, the punk kid UVA fan next to him kept yelling how Matt Schaub sucked throughout the game and was just being annoying and ignorant on football. Needless to say, my brother-in-law was a Hokie fan that day and understood me and my father-in-law's desire to never lose to UVA again. I haven't returned to Scott Stadium to watch us since.

To expand on this, college football programs all over the country have put an added emphasis on offense. Not defense. There are only a handful of teams left that put more emphasis on defense than offense. In the league we're in, offense is king. We need offense much more than we need defense. If we keep Bud and our defense remains top 15 that's cool but that scenario lends itself to us getting an OC on par with or slightly better than Scot Loeffler.

IF we get a new HC who is offensive minded and brings in a talented and intelligent offensive staff and a middle of the pack defense we will be much better off. We'll win a lot more games in the ACC by having a better offense than the other team than vice versa.

Regarding the VT coaching search, Kumah said "I don't see a reason to change unless the new coach isn't interested in me,"

I'm obviously not a star athlete, nor have I ever been recruited. I came to VT for reasons of loving the atmosphere and looking forward to starting a career in Engineering. That said, I've always hoped part of the selling point for our recruits is how awesome it is to be a part of Hokie Nation, and the myriad benefits they would gain from that. I know college recruiting encompasses much more than my sentimentality, but I'm glad to see this kid still want to come to Tech even through a coaching change.

South Carolina fans on the interwebs seem to think they'll be shelling out 6 million a year for their next coach. I don't know which would be funnier.... Seeing them fall flat with a boring hire being payed a reasonable salary or paying that ludicrous amount and falling flat for the next several years because they're South Carolina.

All the more reason to get the best HC possible.

The way Whit needs to look at this is "Who is best qualified to take VT to the next level?", not "Should we give the job to Bud?"

I'll go along with whatever he decides (I guess we all will), but he needs to look at the choice comprehensively. How would Bud fill the OC and DC positions? Would that be the best combination vs. the other HC candidates? Who is best prepared to be the HC? Who is going to be the most competitive recruiting and fundraising-wise? That's the decision that Whit needs to make.

I think the optimal choice would be to keep Bud as DC, and get a new HC and OC. We'll find out what Whit thinks soon, I think.

I guess everybody doesn't realize they sucked, because someone picked them.

I think it's good for people to express an opinion, so that it doesn't happen ever, EVER, again.

I interpreted "none of the candidates...worth losing bud over" and "whit has a big decision" as limiting Whit to one decision, and if it isn't Bud you chose poorly.

You have to do what's best for the program, not what's best for Bud. With our current struggles on offense and in recruiting, I really don't think he's the right guy (at this point in time) for the job. That sucks because he's been loyal here for so long but the success of the program has to be valued over rewarding loyalty.

If he leaves and has success elsewhere, so be it. But I think this team will be in a better place with an offensive-minded HC and Gray or Wiles potentially at DC than with Bud and whatever OC he would get to come here.

The Hokie defense is better than the Cavalier offense, and the Hokie offense is better than the Cavalier defense. Also, the Hokie women are prettier, the men more handsome, and Blacksburg's water tastes better than Charlottesville's.

I love the meaningful statistical analysis we get each week. F UVA. F Thomas Jefferson. F the grounds. F Zima. Frank deserves nothing less than to go out knowing that 7th graders all over the world had never seen UVA beat us in their lifetimes.
