the likelihood of a coach holding onto 1 scholarship for a kid that might decommit and re open his recruitment to early enroll is pretty slim.
If he leaves he probably would have to go lower fbs team, JUCO route or CC. For a kid highly recruited like Jackson I don't see him risking that just because of a coaching change at a program where he hasn't even attended his first qb meeting.
I love these tribute helmets. They really pop.

Honest question - is he a bad teacher or are these bad students?
My guess is it's probably somewhere in the middle. I think Lefty will have wild success in the right situation. Not sure VT was it.

# | More Chatter About Memphis' Justin Fuente as next Virginia Tech Head Coach I started playing NCAA 14 again with updated rosters last week. Decided to start with Fuente and Memphis. The Tigers won the National Championship and Lynch won the Heisman, so this is basically a slam dunk hire.
Whatever good play calls he may have get thrown out by me when he runs sweeps or stretches to the short side of the field consistently. I am not typically one to call for jobs but Scot needs to go. He can design plays, but a lot of the time his calls are baffling.

Outstanding article. You really caught the essence of the day. That being said, I am really excited about the future of this program. It has been almost 3 decades since we have a change at the top of this program and my friends I don't think we will ever see this happen again. So thank you CFB and let's welcome in a new era at VT.
These are just the helmets so far... jerseys and such should be coming soon.

The OC is responsible for the performance of his assistants in the same way the HC bears the ultimate burden for the success of the team. I just found it a bit strange that Mason chose to say, "[Loeffler] hasn't prepared his team." This, to me, sounds more like a technique breakdown than anything and I'm curious why Loeffler bears the blame for it, aside from the overarching OC responsibility to prepare the team.

What happens if the QB does not have this ability? Are we going to be screwed if we have one recruiting miss at QB? In a Morris/Mullen/Herman system, I would not have this concern. I'm wondering if this is a concern in Fuente's system?

Is he riding the high of having a very under the radar recruit (that he offered blindly) and Memphis falls back into the abyss after he goes to the NFL, or is he truly a good coach building a program up from nothing?
This is my concern - It appears to me (I could be wrong) that it's easier to plug-and-play a QB in a Morris/Mullen/Herman system than in Fuente's system. Can he recruit one QB each year that fits his system, and can they learn the offense in a timely manor? If not, can Fuente adjust his system accordingly?
I would imagine that Jackson has been working on a contingency plan all along.

I agree with what you're saying, but here's a quasi-counterpoint.
After a full season and a half coaching with Searels, Loeffler should be able to have a conference with him to clear up these types of issues. That seems like a relatively simple stunt that this O-line shouldn't be struggling with. Searels may be responsible for teaching the O-line to handle that stunt, but Loeffler is responsible for making sure Searels is doing his job.
I think Jackson stays regardless, the only thing that could change is if we hire a HC who runs the option. He will be an early enrollee and that is a tedious process to get through/approved between the HS and College.
If he backs out now he would have to find someplace to go in December as early enrollee's normally report to campus the 1st week of January and get settled in. Lets say VT announces a new HC Thursday the 3rd, lets give the new HC a week to convince Jackson to stay or leave. He's looking at 2 weeks to re-open his recruitment, get accepted and approved. Not a position I would want to be in that's for sure.
