It's seriously unfortunate. Loeffler's career is like a Shakespearean Tragedy. He's obviously not a dummy. He knows how to expose a defense and take advantage of schemes and mismatches. That's only half the job, though. If you can't get the players to buy in and understand then you're doing something wrong. That much is clear. I don't think Loeffler is a bad person or a bad offensive mind. I just don't think he's a good teacher. Something is getting lost in translation.
Seconded- and I mean that in no offense. Mike Harris is good.
OK but Boyd is a top 5 nation WR and probable 1st round pick. He is only player in ACC history to have 1000yd receiving in first 2 years. Broke records held by guys like FItzgerald, BRyant , STreet. Again I think Ford is outstanding player and will play on Sundays, but to think he should get the pub of a guy like Boyd not gona happen. I do think he has been undervalued by pundits who cover VT, but again those guys look at NFL Measurables and that is why BUcky gets the pub on Saturdays.
And that's fine. If he's got a better deal, take it. We've got other options as well.

# | More Chatter About Memphis' Justin Fuente as next Virginia Tech Head Coach Friend of mine is hesitant about Fuente b/c he believes that Fuente's offensive system relies too heavily on the QB - Does anyone who has watched Memphis play much agree/disagree with this?
EDIT:
To clarify, some systems rely MORE on the QB's decision making than others. In some systems, (like Lefty's, Jimbo's, Shaw's etc) the QB is forced to make a lot of reads/decisions/progressions. In others (such as Clemson, OSU, Auburn, etc) the QB doesn't have to make as many decisions, the plays/reads are simpler, allowing the QB to rely more so on athletic ability.
IF my understanding is correct, and a QB in Fuente's offense has more responsibility than, for example, a QB in Morris's offense, can Fuente recruit one QB/year to fit his system? If not, where does that leave us? Is his system something that QB's can pick up in one year, or is it more complicated?
I think it's much easier (and more fun to watch, but that doesn't really matter if we win) to find/recruit an athletic dual threat QB and build a system around him (a la Morris, Meyer, Mullen, Herman, etc), than it is to find and develop a smart, super accurate passer (a la Lefty, Jimbo, Shaw, etc).

# | Failure to Execute the Basics Hampers Hokies' Offense Against Tar Heels I don't care how good Scot Loeffler's plays are, if he shows up to the eleventh game of the season with a healthy offensive line that can't stop this stunt he hasn't prepared his team.
Isn't this just as much (or more) Searels' fault than Loeffler's? I realize that the coaches have to work together to execute the game plan from the OC, and subsequently prepare the players for what's happening, but why is Loeffler singled out here in the failure of the O-line? He bears some responsibility, but wouldn't it be more intuitive to get after the position coach before the coordinator?
That's not the same thing at all. Chip's done the exact opposite, blowing up Philly's roster and bringing in his types of players rather than working with what he had. His roster building with the Eagles is almost the perfect antithesis of what I was talking about.
If it makes you guys feel better he also owns the Browns, so he's probably not paying off the right people.

Man I hope Lawson can prove himself enough during the offseason that he can take the reigns to begin the Fall.
Love Fords game and he is having an all ACC season' but don't do the Boyd comparison. Ford is a very good receiver but lacks measurables. Boyd is 6ft2 and 200 lbs and has been great the minute he hit the field and on a different level at this point.
Even if Jackson leaves, I think we're ok as long as Lawson stays. That buys us a few years and at that point Fuente's track record will be looking pretty good, having put Dalton into the league and developing a 2-star recruit into (according to what I'm reading lately) the no. 1 QB drafted this year.

# | More Chatter About Memphis' Justin Fuente as next Virginia Tech Head Coach Last time I heard that exact description of someone (he bases his offense on who he has rather than a scheme), Chip Kelly was trying to say why he traded for Bradford and didn't need Mariota.
You would be correct, but Florida has a top ten class currently for 2016, that was what I was basing the assumption off of.
Love them. Can we just do that from now on?
Agree on the Urban Meyer comment, but I'd counter the Jim McElwain example and say he's winning with Muschamp players currently. Not saying he isn't a good coach/recruiter, but he's only one year at the helm.

They talk a lot about Paxton Lynch, but I also get the impression that he's a coach that builds around what's available. Right now they rely on the pass game because he's got a great qb (that he developed from day one) without a star receiver or running back. There's going to be risk with every head coaching hire, but everything I read makes it seem more and more like he really knows what he's doing and is able to develop talent and put them in place to succeed. If he's our guy, I'm pretty excited.
Our trust factor with Paxton is high right now, and we have a bunch of other guys that have played really well. We don't have a single receiver or running back. We shuffle all those guys in, and when they have opportunities, they make it. That's just the way we are. If we had a receiver that was head and shoulders above everyone else, it would be different. We feel like we're pretty interchangeable, and that creates competition.

I think Lawson sticks around just due to the fact I believe he'd have to sit out a year if he transferred (correct me if I'm wrong here) and he's already itching to get on the field. I think Lawson will be the starting QB at least by the midpoint of next season.
He had 2 offers- Memphis late(week of signing day) and Florida A&M.. He went to a smaller HS Trinity Christian and also had his run of injuries (knee and legs). He went from unknown to a interesting recruit with his performance in the Central Florida All Star game at the end of the season. Memphis took a huge risk but it paid off after a Redshirt year.
Regardless its great to see Fuente put his QB in a position to succeed. Each year Paxton improves in Completion %, TD to INT ratio and his AVG throw. Imagine a Fuente with a Lawson or Jackson that seem to have more athletic ability than Paxton. As always accuracy and being able to make all the throws is extremely important but I'd think Fuente could get it going with either Lawson or Jackson all day all night
This is just too much fun.
