I'm from Cville and can relate
I love him and he is having an OUTSTANDING year by VT WR standards.
But despite leading the ACC he is just 43rd in the nation!
It just isn't a big year for receivers in the ACC at all.
I agree that he has done a lot with little talent (similar to a young Frank Beamer). I don't see how he provides a recruiting boost though.
Typical.
What happens is the same thing that happens to any other offense when a QB cant make a throw
I was hoping you would get into the fundamentals of the running scheme. Of all the things that bug me about Loeffler, that's the worst. This game, we actually went I-Formation more than we had seen all year. But, still, how many power plays did we run out of that? Seemed like the I-Formation was primarily used for play action. And when it mattered, we went back to the slow developing veer plays to run the ball and it failed, again. It is a complicated play requiring herculean blocks from Rogers and Malleck.

This one is from 2012, it's amazing how nothing has changed.
I got all excited about Dan Mullen, too :(
Best article all year Joe, and you've written some great ones.
Beating UVa is what matters most every year. I love how you detailed all the inept coaching over there.
Lets hear some stories about why we hate the Hoos so badly.
Does anyone know the answer to this question?? ANYONE!!!!

Man what an echo!!
I know this might not be a popular statement but the playbook needs to be more creative and less complex. While Loeffler may be a genius at designing plays what good are they if you can't line up and run them. I will say one thing, he needs to scout his own tendencies because I could have told you what would be the 1st 2 plays of the overtime and so could Fedora. Look at Baylors playbook and tell me how complex they are. It's like a b-ball coach trying to run a double low post with a team full of 6 foot guys. Adapt to your personel and play to their strength. IMO.
French or Mason will have to speak to that. How do those plays work into his scheme.

edit: Glad we can all agree
I love anything retro, so excited to see these
Fuente has had more legs than any other candidate.
Fuente on a treadmill.
Fuente fits the mold for VT, He will be a stable Head Coach, young and with a offensive back ground. He won't get happy feet here at VT and will be the type that will stay . And Bud Foster, Wiles and Grey will be here next season from everything I hear. VT has had a great Coach for 29 years, who knows what any new coach can do here at VT, give him your support and lets see. Been 29 Years, Lets get behind the new Coach...
Great research. Still reading through it all, but wanted to give you a tip of the hat to begin with.

Loeffler's offense requires the qb to make good reads or the offense looks bad. I'm scared Fuente could have us in that scenario if he doesn't have a great qb to run his system.
As it was said further down, Fuente builds around what he has available. He takes lemons and makes lemonade. Memphis is a successful team because of Paxton Lynch. Without him, they are not a good team. That's not a slight against Fuente, that's the fact that they don't have the top end talent. What Fuente has shown is the ability to develop a QB in Lynch and his ability to adapt the team to that player's strengths.

I am a seismologist (geophysicist) and I love how we can record football games.
Was that "Thank you...Beamer" just before Enter Sandman or was that the cannon boom?
