He had 2 offers- Memphis late(week of signing day) and Florida A&M.. He went to a smaller HS Trinity Christian and also had his run of injuries (knee and legs). He went from unknown to a interesting recruit with his performance in the Central Florida All Star game at the end of the season. Memphis took a huge risk but it paid off after a Redshirt year.
Regardless its great to see Fuente put his QB in a position to succeed. Each year Paxton improves in Completion %, TD to INT ratio and his AVG throw. Imagine a Fuente with a Lawson or Jackson that seem to have more athletic ability than Paxton. As always accuracy and being able to make all the throws is extremely important but I'd think Fuente could get it going with either Lawson or Jackson all day all night
4th and 15 for GT at the 50. Enter Sandman, crowd going wild. I would have bet a kidney that VT would stop GT from converting that.
I love every one of the helmets for this year. We need to just keep this rotation going.

# | More Chatter About Memphis' Justin Fuente as next Virginia Tech Head Coach There are going to be a whole shi*-ton of job openings this year. Bud doesn't have to take a P5 HC gig either. He might get snatched up by a tier 2 type school where he can get some experience and build his resume up to make himself a more attractive candidate for a P5 job in a couple years. With how many fans we have clamoring for him to get his shot as VT's next HC it's amazing that not a single person seems to think it's possible that he could be hired as an HC elsewhere. Don't forget that VT is widely regarded as a top 5 job opening this year in an extremely crowded field of job openings.
I absolutely love these helmets with the sleeve stripe jerseys. Look way better than the big bulky shoulder stripes. I would be all for going to this look regularly.
To add to this in an off topic way, the coaching name of the day effects all teams even ones who still have their coach. I heard a report on XM that Tressell would be the best fit for LSU.
These are just the helmets so far... jerseys and such should be coming soon.
No throwback jerseys with sleeve stripes? No pants with matching stripes?

Those are my favorite helmets we have had in a while. The white facemask is awesome.
My point is that you cannot "not rely" on a QB and expect to be successful. They out talent teams and then lose when it comes to the big games where their talent is matched. There really isn't a team that can win without a competent QB.
Does anyone know what kind of house Pat Forde lives in? Let's be honest, today's housing market is a zoo. There's no telling what sort of mortgage Pat Forde has!

The first part of your post is what scares the crap out of me. Is he riding the high of having a very under the radar recruit (that he offered blindly) and Memphis falls back into the abyss after he goes to the NFL, or is he truly a good coach building a program up from nothing?
I just feel that we may regret a flash in the pan type hire.. Mullen has sustained a little bit of success, as has Richt as well as RR (even though it's mediocre).
I am afraid we are really rolling the dice with the new shiny things.

I agree - I don't really see him leaving for another DC job, and I don't really see a P-5 school offering him the HC job.
But I guess you never know.
The question should be what team not where. Bowden got WVU for his exit as an 'insider' deal. Does frank get to choose his team and then the bowl game and What team would Frank choose

What are the odds we keep Jackson with Loeffler leaving? I think Lawson sticks around just due to the fact I believe he'd have to sit out a year if he transferred (correct me if I'm wrong here) and he's already itching to get on the field. I think Lawson will be the starting QB at least by the midpoint of next season.
