At some point, the way we honor Beamer has to match the way he led. He never wanted the spotlight, MUCH less taking it away from someone else. I can't think of a bigger contradiction to Frank's ideals than to remove (or diminish) an honor bestowed (or purchased) by one person in place of his own.
The indoor practice facility is the house that Beamer built. That plus Beamer Way is not only enough, but its very fitting.
Beamer Barn - honoring Frank's work ethic, and the work ethic that he bestowed among his players
Beamer Way - Remember the results of Beamer's teachings, as a result of doing them the right way. I think the sidewalk is a great way of adding to that.
I think both of those things (and maybe only those) would appropriately pay homage to the man, and the way he coached/lived.

I share your petrification (being a resident of this dump). I feel the D will give their all but I also recognize that it won't be enough to overcome the ineptitude of the O. I f-kin hate tossups (especially this game).

# | Hokies Nearly Earn Storybook Lane Ending for Frank Beamer, Drop Home Finale to UNC 30-27 in OT I'm no expert but I recall hearing a similar discussion about a NFL rule regarding possession in the endzone. Essentially 'possesion' can be very subjective, however in the NFL (and from what I have witnessed in similar college games) possession does not have to be retained in the endzone as long as it is initially achieved while in bounds. From the replay I saw a clear moment with a foot inbounds and the ball secured. I have yet to see a college play where that would be overturned, especially since he appeared to bobble it afterwards while moving out of bounds. I do not know what the rulebook says, but that's my two cents.

What about Foster to 'Cuse? I feel like he'd be a good candidate there. Basketball school looking to get back to making an impact in football. With all the openings, if Bud gets snubbed at VT, I think there's a place for him as a HC at a P5 school.

Yep. Not on the list. He would have been on the list last year for sure. Probably just an oversight? Or does think the lack of any real success (wins/losses) at SMU killed his chances.
well, for starters I didn't even pose the original question which you still haven't answered. That's really not the point at this stage. I do understand what you're saying, but I'm saying that defense is still important.
I never said that the Big XII won't get a team in the playoff because they don't play defense. You're inferring that from me saying that them not playing defense means they'll never have a true contender. They may very well make it to the playoff, but the other teams in that playoff group will have defenses to go along with their offenses. Until a Big XII team starts playing serious defense they're not going to beat the best teams in the country. The best teams in the country have defenses that will limit a team like Baylor to well below their season average offensively. If Baylor can't score at will against a team they can't stop they can't win. That has nothing to do with whether or not they get the opportunity.

leaves 5 vacancies to fill ST, OL, RB, TE?, and a D coach (whip? safeties?).
So, the best options to fill vacancies are poaching from Clemson, on staff at VT already, SMU staff that comes with him, or the leftovers after the end-of-the-year HC firings.
Looking at his current SMU offensive coaching staff, they almost all have little to no experience collegiate coaching. Some, like his OC and WR coach, were Clemson graduate assistants. Some, like his RB coach, were HS coaches. Maybe he brings Claude Mathis (RB), a TX HS HC, along with him. He played for the Vikings and TX HS head coaches have done well in college football recently.
Looking at VT: I would imagine the connection between Morris and Shane Beamer will lead to him being retained, hopefully as ST coordinator. I would think Searels is also a contender to be retained as OL coach, because Morris runs zone and power runs, which works well with Searels style (don't quote me). It would not surprise me to see Stinespring retained as the roach that never dies (not in a negative way, but he just finds a way to keep at VT somehow).
Looking at Clemson: Both Offensive co-coordinators (Scott (WR) and and Elliot (RB)) are Clemson alums. Thus, to lure one or the other, I would imagine it would take promotion to the sole title of OC and a nice raise in salary. Caldewell (OL) joined Morris at Clemson the same year, has an extensive resume (including Vanderbilt HC). If he's loyal to Morris, maybe he'll defect, but I'm guessing his loyalties are to Swinney.
It's too difficult to predict which coaches will become available after the HC is let go, but maybe some position coaches at UGA/LSU or wherever might hop on the VT coaching train.
In sum, I don't really see any coaches that have loyalty to Morris. At Clemson, he was essentially hired as OC without bringing any coaches with him. At SMU, his offensive staff was assembled using graduate assistants and TX HS coaches. Thus, he will pretty much have to assemble his coach staff from a mishmash of what's available.

How does LSU have an easier road to the playoffs than VT??
The only benefit of being in the SEC West is that having 1 loss doesn't necessarily knock you out of the playoff (depending on who it is to). Every school that is not in a super elite conference/division with an elite schedule (ie. everyone not in the SEC West) is probably not going to make a playoff with 1 loss. The question is whether or not that 1 loss cushion is still worth the juggernaut that is the SEC West? I would agree with you and say no.

I've got center court, 2nd row seats for this game. Have friends from Florida visiting and want them to see Cassell in all its glory. It should be well attended, nationally televised game (ESPNU, right?). I am expecting it to be a good one to watch.
Unlikely. LSU is going to go after a P5 coach or NFL coach with established success.
