ND could join and keep their schedule if they wanted to, but the TV deal is too sweet to give up. They could play Navy every year similar to UGa/GT and SCar/Clem and work in USCal home/away every other year if they wanted some more variety in their sched.

I name Louisville because they were the most recent to join as well as their crappy academics. But I agree we almost have too many teams now. We really need to be on a nine game conference schedule. But FSU, Clemson, and GT have tried their best to shoot that down every time it comes up.
As for trimming down to 12 teams again, I can guarantee that most of the ACC would probably vote out VT as they didn't want us to start with.

Louisville because the ACC threw it's academic requirement out the window to let them in just for their sports prowess at the time I loved being able to tell WVU fans we'd never let them in because of their academics, but after Louisville, I can't claim that any more.

23. Rich Rodriguez, Arizona: There was a lot of speculation about Rodriguez reuniting with his old buddy Whit Babcock (now the Va. Tech AD) but I'm hearing that may not happen. He might get in the mix at Miami, or if LSU comes open, he also could get a look there.

Notre Dame isn't going to negotiate away their football TV rights very easily unless they start getting frozen out of exclusive network contracts and exclusive revenues from bowl games.
And it's sort of hard to blame them. They know they've got a sweet gig.
Statues always worry me. It seems like, lately, statues go up and then sometime later something happens that means they get taken down. I doubt I ever have to worry about that with Beamer but it just doesnt fit right for what kind of man he is
Couple seasons where having no conference championship game to play in keeps them out of playoffs and they will join......n.d. Could win alot of conference championships in ACC...but right now they don't need it....the media and selection committee has some kind of love affair with them and they are over rated imo.......in the end money is the x factor.....when it becomes financial burden to stay in dependent ...they join.... We gave contract w them till 2027 I believe

Well, for one thing, I don't see the ACC kicking any teams out. Ever. If they did, why Louisville?
Also, how would our conference schedule be structured by adding two more teams? The conference schedule is terrible as it is right now because there are too many teams in the league. The belly-aching and whining about our awful schedule structure is only going to intensify by adding more teams to an already over loaded conference.
If the ACC was going to start kicking teams out, I vote that we get back to 12 teams and ignore ND altogether. I don't really see what value ND adds to the conference anyway.
I'm starting to feel like it's Morris as well. Herman would be my first choice, but if we land Morris and he can get Jeff Scott from Clemson as his OC, that would be a pretty potent combination as far as coaching and recruiting is concerned. Keeping Bud would be great as well. I worry he is going to bolt back to Texas as soon as a big job opens up there, but I guess that is the nature of the beast these days.
I've always thought they created this area for that specific reason.

Thanks for your detailed response (as well as others who replied to me). I admit to not following SMU at all so from the surface it looks like Morris hasn't done much, but looks like there have been major improvements. I feel better about the hire now.

That game. That freaking tribute from the former players. I tried to stay strong but I was stuffed up and wiping tears after DeAngelo Hall thanked Frank for being the father he never had. I'm still a nostalgic mess about Beamer, it's still hard to believe he will never coach another game in Lane, and I hate that he had to go out with a loss. That said, this game, the fans, and Beamer showed how sports can be about more than just the sport, that this was more than just a game, and most importantly, Frank Beamer was more than just a great coach. He impacted the University, the community, and so many lives, including mine, in a significant way. How blessed are we that we got to watch our favorite team be led by such an incredible man? Beamer forever.
