Notre Dame really cares that much about their games with Navy?

I'm generally pretty cynical about the intentions of college athletes and athletic programs, but when Swarbrick (sp?) said two years ago that they would drop down to non-scholarship football if they ever had to pay players, I believed him. I think they have an understanding of what they are about that is different than everyone else. In a lot of ways, bigtime college football needs ND more than ND needs it. I expect the avenue to get into the playoff will always be gerrymandered to benefit ND. If it isn't, or if players need to start drawing wages commensurate with their time investment, I can see ND walking away.

Yep, and the Miami recruiting base acts as a feeder to the Miami program, though some arguably shady deals under the table throughout the region. You get the right guy in there, and it will be incredibly easy to win a lot of games in a short time period. A guy like Chip Kelly going to Miami would have them be the next Alabama in very short order.

What happens when Defense doesn't decide games anymore.

Yea I messed that response up on Saturday post game, my fault for never fixing it.

Defense is important but not a game changer if you have a strong offense. A strong offense was held low by a good defense, but the offense won the game. Brewer had his best game of the year. Williams had his near worst games of the year.

The better Offense won - UNC

If ND beats Stanford and doesn't get in, they'll join within 5 years.

If ND gets in the playoff, they'll never join. Ever.

First of all, Notre Dame is going to do whatever they can to preserve the game against Navy.

If ND joins the ACC fully, then we're probably going to 9 conference games.

ND has three annual rivals - USC, Stanford, and Navy. If none of those are in-conference, then ND's schedule would be set every year. But that also means that ND would never be able to schedule any other game. So, I think Notre Dame tries to get Navy into the ACC with them.

Statues, renaming stuff, and metal plaques have been done. This type of thinking is what Frank deserves and continues to make VT so special to so many people.

If anything rename the Tunnel leading on to the Field after Beamer is someway.

Picked up a few nice things recently. Store nearby had a stash of 2013 B*tches Brew, so I picked up 4 bottles. And got 2 4-packs of the Higher Math 20th Aniiversary from Dogfish. A couple of Russian Imperial Stouts from Iron Hill, barrel aged Narwhal, and barrel aged Smashed Pumpkin. I've got a few BCBS's reserved for this Friday too. Guess it's time to break out last years, you know, as part of the advent calendar.

Great atmosphere in the stands except for the occasional idiot VT fan. The Metallica tribute was awesome. I was high enough up in the East to see the team walk out of the Beamer Barn and it was just flat out cool.

Hats off to Bud for his D holding the offense to so few points. It is clear that we need to develop some sort of offensive identity and we can easily win games like this.

For some reason this, there has always been one VT fan every single game that wants to fight, trash talks other Hokies, etc. Don't know why but it's embarrassing.

I wish Dadi had actually given Ron Cherry the business. The refs were flat out horrendous on calls for both teams. The ACC needs to get its act together.

The UVA game scares me a bit, they have been in a lot of their games. Hope we crush them. See you all in Charlottesville

Bud for VT HC!!

Chad Morris is a great offensive mind, no doubt, and Bud alongside him sounds deadly.... But, is he a good recruiter? I read above that he has recruiting the second best class in the AAC. Not bad. Will he dominate the state of Virginia, though, the way Beamer did in the late 1990s and early 2000s?

Also, is he a good leader? A good mind is nothing without leadership skills. Frank Beamer said that his 2003 team was the most talented he had ever coached (via a friend), and I can believe that. The reason why their season finished so bad, though, was because of a lack of leadership. Not only does that fall on the players but the coaches as well.

Under Morris, we would have the potential to merc teams early in the year between the high powered offense and always solid defense. But, when we enter the bulk of the ACC schedule, will Morris be able to lead the guys in those games against Duke, UNC, and whoever our cross-division opponent will be that year? Whit will have to take this into serious consideration, or we will see a repeat of the latter part of the 2001-2003 seasons.
