Eh, this OSU offense has wrecked 4 really good defenses in a row. Can't really tell how good our D is based on this game, except maybe some individuals and how well they played their specific assignments.
I feel like this review just re-enforced all of my take-aways...Coleman is shit again (love the kid)...Trey ain't there yet...that OLINE!...come on lefty, rusty play calling got better, keep getting after it...
Wonder if French's defensive review will do the same, Motu mostly aggressively blocked, so his busts were much less common that it appeared, but more troublingly, more common as a percentage of his free-hitter chances...scheme pulled the smaller faster guys to the edge, where they couldn't get off big physical blocks, and the decision to slow-play the read and force jones to carry wasn't a good one...played defense for speed instead of physicality...

# | Yosuah Nijman Sparks a Solid Offensive Line Performance Against Ohio State I look at the first clip of the FB run, I note what you are saying regarding Rogers should have run through the large gap behind Teller. coming behind Teller and then passing on his right shoulder would have produced a large gain as Teller effectively had their wide LB, towards the top of the screen, also blocked by where Teller was positioned.
But from the FB perspective I can't fault his choice.
their RG was moving to close that gap, albeit, he was being effectively blocked but, that hole was closing and Conte was moving to the secondary. This was another good hole and Rogers was able to power through it.
I am impressed by the acceleration he showed here after helping Conte move downfield and the footplant and cutback at 11 seconds.
When he moves from a slant to downhill it is decisive and the reach with his left foot leaves the would be tackler grasping air.
Between that move and the 2 moves he makes in his wheel route (shimmy to confuse the guy that was supposed to be covering him and then the move to knock the CB out of his shoes), it looks like he took lessons this past year.
Consider anOSU now schooled in pussytouchdowns.

Some of what these guys forget is that the Bucks really are very good and have loads of talent.
And the game was still very much in doubt until the QB went down.
The Bucks in front of us were holding their breath until just about that point.
Without big analysis, I'd say we wont the Special teams battle. the rest was going to be a shootout but, Bucks win. We would have tired by mid 4th and not be able to keep up.

Agree though. If we can get the next QB prepped and confident, I think we've got a strong point for the ACC.
It is sad, but in all the talk who will be the RB, Trey, JCC, Shai, or Travon. Sam did flat out the best job running the rock.
In the BCS era only two teams made it to the championship game that wasn't consistently in the top 10 in recruiting rankings, us and Oregon. What do we need to do to get recruits? Facilities( we got a new locker room and indoor practice facility recently) Uniforms (we've played with the idea, some good/some foghorn helmets) Winning (last three seasons...not so much) This is/was our best chance to win the ACC this year. FSU will be down a notch I think and Clemson is gonna clemson at some point this year. We need to get back in some big bowl games and win them. I only wish we had this current coaching staff when we were making it to the OB on the regular and could capitilze that on the recruiting trail.

Agreed. We were 2 different teams in the 2 halves.
If Motley can be serviceable for us, I think our running game can be a strength if the OL keeps it up and we can win games like we used to pounding it out. The question is if Leoffler is patient enough to pound the ball.

I agree, to me our 2 best rb's are Shai and travon, handsdown.
From my perspective, i didn't see anything that wasn't fixable. Other than letting our guys get inside a few times your CB's made some good plays. Your D Line kept up the pressure except for what looked like some blown assignments by the MLB.
Losing Brewer hurt but a collarbone should be a quick heal and it wasn't his throwing arm IIRC. Your backup didn't look bad as much as not having an offensive scheme tailored to his talents.
What I don't understand is why Foster kept the Safety in the box and left the middle open when our guys were getting inside. I realize he wanted to bring pressure at the line but it seems he didn't think 12 Gauge could make the plays or that our backups wouldn't be consistent. In fairness, they dropped some catchable balls, however he really gambled on that, IMHO.
I think you'll do fine in the ACC and if you win out will be in the playoffs.
This makes me excited to see Durk more than Lawson. Logan was a beast and I'd be happy seeing that style of qb again. Hoping that Mot does well, as a local kid mostly. But it all comes down who is best to lead us while Brewer is out. Sending wishes of a speedy recovery to that kid.

I would expect a lot more easy throws against Furman for Motley. I don't think we saw a single WR screen against OSU but I am sure we will see some early next week just to get Motley some confidence and comfortable. I would like to see us run the ball effectively early and get a lead and then come out throwing like crazy just to get Motley game reps and more experience but that would be the wish for every game.
And we scored more on them than Oregon did.
Exactly and with miller, Samuel and the 3 they get back this week I'm not sure how you stop it. Like I said I can see them hangin atleast 60 on every team left on their schedule and yes that includes Michigan state.
At key spots like QB, we have to be 3 or 4 deep, or else we're going to turtle every time we have an injury like that.
First, only Ohio State is three deep at QB. That's not going to happen, here or anywhere. All we need is a viable backup QB. Pretty much any program in the P5 will see some dropoff between QB1 and QB2. But with the really good programs, the dropoff is negligible. OSU is the first program I can remember that could lose their first two QBs and have one good enough to win a natty. That's just ridiculous.
Second, depth is not a minor issue, but a fixable issue, and from what I can see, our only remaining issue. We have the coaching staff, improving facilities, and a hungry AD. Get us two deep across the board (five serviceable backup O linemen, 5-6 WR, four TEs, four RBs...) and we can contend. We could have that by 2018 if we want.
Third, and this just is what it is, Beamer will always sacrifice a non-conference game in favor of being in good shape for the conference slate. It is what it is. I don't think we would have packed it in if Brewer had gone down against Georgia Tech instead, for example. We can debate the merits of that, but Beamer looks at non-conference games as tune-up for the conference games. He would never risk catastrophic injury to win one.
Running game looks promising but the RB rotation was still a little suspect. JCC shouldn't be our 3rd down back. He is our weakest blocker. I would like to see the other guys in there more on 3rd down. I hope we settle down more with the rotating of backs and get down to 2 and I think those 2 would be Shai and Travon. JCC and Trey missed some big holes out there.
Bucky had a real quiet night (haven't seen film as to why) so that was a bummer but we were throwing to the middle half of the field again last night which did not happen a lot last year.
Sam is a heck of a football player.
Our QB situation is not the biggest problem we have. The injury to Brewer sucks, but it could be a lot worse. Motley, Durkin and Lawson are as deep a group as any in the ACC anyway.
No no no, not to Alex at all. More a general observation that was hit right away with the first 2 comments. Bud was beaten by Urban. I agree on that point, but no need for doom and gloom because of one game.
