You know how it works! I guess guiding down and guide points weren't concepts they really utilized there.
Use a Princess Bride quote? Leg to you, sir!
I think this team will perform very differently in the next few weeks than what we saw Monday night. I just can't seem to accurately process how good we are based off of playing the consensus top team in the country.
Motley could look like a world-beater vs Furman. The defense could hold Purdue to under 100 yards. Anything can happen.
mhmm damn well that ball he threw in the spring game where he missed Ford by 5 yards wide open in the endzone.. as said right above.. from the little we have seen it hasn't been pretty.. However I will give him the doubt until he gets more PT which will happen this week
I've been thinking, will we really have to change our offensive philosophy much going forward? Yes, Brewer is more of the typical dropback passer than the other 3, but assuming the OL continues to play well, and we can continue to run decently and utilize the TE's will we really have to change much for Motley or whoever it will be at QB? I have no idea how practices are structured, but if the entire offense has been learning this system all summer and fall, it would seem best to stick with it unless none of the QB's show they can run it. I would think the playbook would be simplified some for a new QB, but not scrapped entirely? Just a thought.
Absolutely. I'll never forget sitting there watching the Temple game as Sorensen played QB while Michael Vick stood in full uniform on the sideline.
So I would rank us in the bottom half of the 120 teams
I did answer the question....begrudgingly, perhaps. But I did answer it.
1) We struggled covering their H backs all night which was often Stroman.
2) Elliot's 80 yard scamper should have come back on a blatant hold in the middle of the field but there was still a huge hole that would have given him 15 yards or so.
3) We had them in 3rd down a lot and they made plays. Our guys struggled to contain Jones on the edge and he was able to burn us on that.
The defense we used was very different than what we will see a lot of the year I imagine. We will use the Bear but the extra adjustments Bud made (treating them like an option team) likely won't be there until we play GT. Our young secondary struggled but they will grow. We got exposed but the guys will learn from it.
On a side note, if Brewer doesn't go down and the offense could have continued to sustain drives, I believe we hold them to around 30 points (28 or 31) and it ends in less than a 10 point game. OSU had a lot of possessions in the 2nd half and that bit us in the ass.
I think you misunderstood my question. All teams are ranked, not just the top 25. Where should we be? Sorry, thought I made that clear when I specified a few different examples like the Top 50.
Fine, call me a cynic. I think this is a silly exercise. You'll be hard pressed to find any non-Hokie-homer who would even consider the idea that this team should be ranked. This team showed nothing to suggest they should be ranked so they will stay, rightfully so, right where they are. Unranked. When an unranked team loses at home to a ranked team that does nothing but affirm the assessment of both teams. If the game is close you can start formulating subjective opinions that outsiders may consider but when ranked team beats the spread over unranked team there should be no change. It does not matter that VT lost to the #1 team. The only reason people would even consider moving VT UP in the rankings would be if we won the game or maybe, just maybe, if we lost a very very close game in the final moments. This game was easily in hand for OSU the second they went up 28-17. With no Brewer to ride on VT had little to no chance.
Trust me... if there's one guy on campus who obsesses about our brand, its Whit Babcock. Major changes have been implemented and are in the process of being finalized to stabilize our brand and its uses going forward. (and no, that rounded edges Nike rebrand is not a part of it)
Frank will never go JUCO route...
PS can't wait to see which SEC school picks up Reavis..
Love this and agree 100%.
Are you saying that underdogs don't want to be winners? Don't get me wrong...I wish we played the top-dog role better, but history shows that we don't.
I'd take the Top Dog 99 team any day. I'd also like the Sugar Bowl underdogs (Texas,Auburn). I, like you, have watched VT football for a while now and observed that we play better as underdogs.
I see what you did there.
I was really concerned by a lot of low snaps while in the shotgun formation. I counted several and it really became noticeable when Motley came in.
I can't imagine him being back in 4 weeks. Maybe throwing again in 4 weeks but not ready to take a hit. Everyone in the medical field I have talked to says 6-8 weeks is the real number. Miami would be hopeful but Duke or BC more likely.
If I'm ranking us, it's a no-brainer. Number One.
I like the Hokies better than all the other teams. It's not even close.
Very true! I was hoping to get your opinion: I was very high on Trey but on that second clip where he gained 8 yards I get the feeling an elite back hurdles Wyatt and the guy his pancaking and takes it to the house. Maybe the best two backs are McMillan and Mckenzie?
I really needed to read this...Brewer being out for awhile really might hinder the progress of the offense, but our schedule looks somewhat favorable (at least the next month) if the team comes together regardless of whose under center. It's just one game and as much as it would be great to have won, it doesn't define the season. We can still do great things this year and it starts Saturday against Furman. Hope the players come out focused and intense and start moving forward!!!
jet sweep is useless unless you have a home run hitter in the backfield as well ala OSU had with zeke..
1 play I wish we could get rid of..
Top 69 no doubt
I think we should just feed Sam MF Rodgers the ball for the whole game instead of just a half. I understand how unfair that is to the other teams but we need the yards and points...
All kidding aside I do like the way the oline played and after a few weeks of 1st team reps I think Motely will do just fine...
STOP GIVING ADVICE HISTORY HOKIE!! No mercy...haha

If Lawson plays well and continues to improve his game, there will be/should be no controversy. They will keep playing Lawson, continuing his growth. No need to put Brewer back in being his senior season this year, if Lawson shows promise. Now if he doesn't/signs of struggle, then sure, put brewer back in.
