Along these lines, every game that the Hokies have lost the week after Labor Day, I've either been at the beach, or doing a triathlon. For the wins, I've been at the game.
Here's my 5 yr track record-
2009 Marshall win - at the game
2010 - JMU loss - at the Beach
2011 - ECU win - Stopped by Greenville for the game, then went to the beach.
2012 - Pitt Loss - triathlon at the beach- double whammie
2013 - ECU win - See 2011... same plan.
2014 - ECU loss - triathlon
This year, a beach trip would conflict with work schedule, and I'm currently on the shelf with a knee injury, so no triathlons right now. And... I'm going to the Furman game cause I need to watch football and eat at Mike's... NOW.

I personally think Whit Babcock is just the guy to build VT's brand going forward. It could include some different Nike sponsorship stuff, it could include stadium improvements, it HAS included facility improvements, it could include any number of things. After what Babcock did in his short time at Cincy, I think he can effectively work with everyone (sponsors, alums, big donors, coaches, staff) to seriously build a brand.
I also think he NAILED the "This is Home" branding for the anOSU game (and hope it continues for the remaining home games).
I hate this mentality. Winners want to be the top dog. No one strives to be unranked.
Not to mention its huge confirmation bias. You just don't remember us playing poorly when we're the underdog because we were supposed to play poorly, which makes the upsets stick out more. I'll take 2010 top dogs over 2012 underdogs

SEC kills it in the JUCO route.. why can't we sneak in and do it.. mhmm one has to think academics has a huge thing to do with this.
Considering the number of FBS vs. FCS games in week one, that number is undoubtably higher.
And I'm the nerd that counted. 81 FBS teams are 1-0 (and 4 are 0-0).

I think they converted 3rd down more than once that same way and another miss because of a drop.

I'll take this a step further. You always get better playing someone better than you. The 1st team has a more competative scout team, making them better. At the same time, the scout team is getting better by playing a higher talent level. Makes the team better top to bottom.
Some of that is based on how he was used. Travon's best play is an inside zone from a pistol or an I formation. That jet sweep stuff is a waste for him.
Never said that Coleman is "shit." I thought he ran the ball hard and was effective. I felt that both he and Edmunds had some opportunities to turn productive runs into game breaking runs, and they didn't feel the hole. On tape from the spring, McMillian seemed to be smoother at making a decisive cut into the correct hole, and we saw McKenzie demonstrate that ability last year. Without Brewer, the Hokies need explosive plays in the running game to compliment the 3.5-6.0 yard chunk runs.
As for Coleman's pass protection, I have documented that he has not been a great pass protector several times over the past couple of years. Rogers and Edmunds are more physical and stronger intercepting blitzers, and that is why, even when Coleman was getting 20+ carries a game, that he rarely was in on passing downs.
If there's ever a QB who could catch his own passes, it's Sam Rogers.
Do we get extra points because we played the No. 1 team? OK, I guess not.
This is a HUGE point. Beamer doesn't want JUCO guys coming in and playing. That's all well and good.
However, as an Auburn alum who watches SEC recruiting, it's hard to maintain a solid level of success without JUCO transfers these days (biggest 2 - Cam Newton and Nick Marshall). It's a toss-up where the top high schoolers go, and some supremely talented guys go to JUCO for one reason or another.
Can someone link somewhere where Beamer states why he doesn't like JUCO transfers? Is it just about keeping the "pecking order" in tact? Is it that JUCO guys can come with significant off field baggage? I always felt Beamer did a wonderful job handling off-field BS and cutting any rule breaking down quickly (minus maybe the Journell thing...).
More than a few thought I was nuts just for saying that I felt our offense would not perform poorly against an OSU defense of which I am still not sold on.
Just wanted to pop my head up from lurking for the past two years to say what a great program you have, and what a great bunch of fans. Both games were incredible and it's so sad that Brewer went down - you didn't want to lose like that and we didn't want to win like that. But for us to look so good on paper (forget the suspensions, no excuses, next man up) and be down at halftime...speaks volumes of VaTech.
This is the most I've ever enjoyed an opponent and their fans during a home-and-away, and now I'm inexplicably rooting for VaTech as a result in all games not concerning OSU. Well...sorta. Technically, if we have to face an ACC team in the playoffs (assuming we don't get in our own way until then), I'd rather it weren't VaTech because your team fights like they have a bag of Doritos on their shoulders.

I think that's unquestionable. Our kickoffs were mostly touchbacks, and OSU had that turnover on special teams plus a kickoff out of bounds and another that almost went there. Both sides missed FG's. No question that Beamerball showed up this time.
Depending on how well Teller plays this year, he may leave early for the NFL.

Give him credit for the escape-ability yes and to keep his head downfield yes the throw could have been crisper but hey the last drive left me with a encouraged feeling. IMO we will see more I formation against Furman than we have ever seen in the past few years
Am I crazy? Are we on track with recruiting? Why do I say 45 hail marys before every game because we have no margin for injury...?
Until we build a brand as recognizable to players and fans as Fruit Loops are to a six-year old we are not going to get there. Short on time, but with an eye to the future and building that brand what can not only Virginia Tech's football program but all sports programs do? Go head on with rivals in their own territories and hold (multi-sport with BB&B, Beamer Bud & Buzz) camps in major recruiting hot beds from north to south such as Florida, 757, Nova/DC/MD, Jersey, Research Triangle? Invite high school coaches from around to seminars? Pay professionals (ex and current) to visit campus/other locations to generate interest with mini-clinics for coaches, players, media?
All within the rules, what can we do to make Virginia Tech cool and keep it there? What are some out-of-the box solutions?
JC is great when he has 1 clear hole to hit, when he has to cut or look for a hole he gets stuffed most the time..
You left off the fact that Motley scored when OSU knew he would have to pass.
Its even easier for a defense if they can disregard the run game, stunt and blitz your line and drop the rest into coverage because of the late-game situation. The situation Motley scored the touchdown was even more impressive considering OSU the context.
well he did get the ball on a bunch of sweeps so that would make sense, but he still was able to gain yards finding a cutting lane for the most part.
Now Trey looked bad real bad IMO.. don't know if its rust or what not but wasn't too pleased. I'm sure he will pick it up again
part of this also has to do with our bear front.. because in a 4-3 the LB would normally flex out and cover him.. with the bear the "free" man has to cover that space..
The route concept that is run with that play also makes it tough for that "free" man to not get picked by either the ref or the wr.. a good wr is taught to break his route off across the middle as close to the ref as possible.
