Good point about not freaking out. You still have very good players on both sides of the ball and I think you'll still have a very good season.

I'm with you on everything except JCC. I thought he ran with some authority and frequently churned out extra yards. I've rewatched the fumble a dozen times, and it still looks like a fluke. Good ball control, covers with the second hand going into the tackle, it just gets stripped before he can get down because he lands on a defender. I'm not ready to pull him for that. I saw the JCC from the last four games of last year out there against OSU. I think he's turned the corner.

The back who did nothing to impress me last night was Trey Edmunds. Tripped in the backfield and wasn't seeing his cutbacks all night. Between the two, I feel more comfortable with JCC carrying the ball right now.

This is the second time he has done this. He should prepare better.

EDIT: Not Motley the second time but Loeffler. He should prepare them better.

No I didn't mean Leal from the Sun bowl...I felt that Motley doesn't really look good in the passing game at all. Always looks rattled, even within his limited success last year. I do however feel that Scott Loffler doesn't do a good job preparing the backup for game action.

Part of this is Loeffler's game planning for Motley was totally different than Brewer and he couldn't risk that playing style anymore so the game plan was screwed up. That just happens but...Motley still should have been throwing a little better than that. His performance didn't look far off from Mark Leal's debacle from the Sun Bowl...

If the offense can just generate 20 points, that should win games.

We've been saying that for years. Unfortunately, it far too often can't even do that.

No belly aching. It was holding - and it was behind the play. To say it wasn't may be misinterpreting holding - or maybe I didn't see the other hold that is alleged.

Regardless, I grow a little weary of fans complaining about holding. The offensive linemen are allowed to hold (the terminology in my day was "in the tits"). What they can't do is throw the defender to the ground when they have them by the tits and they can't hold them by the arms/shoulders - and they can't tackle the defensive players, but they can cut them. What you have on sweep plays is a tackle or tight end who gets a DE/LB by the tits and follows them in play flow. If they let go of them when they twist, it is not holding, but many hang on too long and it turns into holding, or the defensive player sometimes goes down giving the impression of holding. Regardless, many fans don't understand what holding is and isn't, and there is the old adage: "you could call holding on every play." My point is that no one is winning or losing because of holding penalties called or not called.

In this particular play - that would have given OSU a 21 point lead - the call was correct, and it was a mistake on our All-American LT's part of hanging on too long when the ball was already ahead of him. That's a mistake, it lead to a missed FG, and VT scored on it's next possession. Football games turn on such plays; they are momentum shifters.

My dad made the comment to me during the game that it helps having Slye kick it clear out of the end zone, but their kicker seemed to get a 5 minute hang time that landed a foot in the end zone. By the time our guys hit the 10 coverage was all over them.

SL said in the post game interview that they limited Motley's plays because if he did what he does best, there was a fair chance that he would have gotten hurt and they did not seem comfortable putting Durkin or Lawson in that game. So they chose a limited Motley over risking him getting hurt last night.

Ya I mean if your dumb enough to not check the ticket before handing over money, then you deserved it. If im going to fork over that kinda money I want to see what I am getting.

It happens a lot more often than you think. Those bleachers take a hell of a beating every game.

yeah, we broke one in the east stands one game back in the day. They'll fix it before the next game and all will be well...

I also came here to post it. The Key Play gets a little mention as well. I felt really proud as a Hokie fan reading that post.

I will say that I've heard grumblings about the idea of "Hokie Respect" taking some of the sizzle out of the hostile environment. I hope that isn't the case. I'd like to think that just because you're respectful of the opponent, it doesn't mean that you can't be a tough place to play. I don't think throwing batteries and stuff is what makes a great homefield advantage. I think the best college football fans (like Nebraska) know how to keep it classy, but still know how to bring the pain and hostility
