#3 is a guy built like our fullback. He's rFr and hasn't gotten many snaps.

The part that we feel bad about is that this was going to be our OCs first season with a QB for 2 consecutive years, after watching the first half, we thought we were finally getting a good offense.
VT with a standard vgood defense and a decent to good offense is a sight to behold.
We almost had it and it seems it may have slipped from our grasp with a broken collarbone.
Losing Brewer killed us, after he left the d was on the field way too much and all their talent was just too much but still we held em to 42, I'd say those guys hang atleast 60 on the rest of the teams they play and the other good news, we won't see any teams any other teams on our schedule with half the talent osu has they are deep, talented and we'll coached.
The more I think about it, the more I think Lawson has to be the choice. Realistically, what QB are we going to start next year? I think it has to be Lawson. So, why not give the kid 11 games (against what is not a terribly difficult slate) to get his feet under him. Motley seems like a great kid, but he is just not a QB that can run this type of offense at this level. If he was, Lefty doesn't go out and find Brewer last offseason in the first place.
I hate to sound like I am saying this season is already a wash, but realistically there is no way we are going to the playoff, so why not see what you have in your 2nd best rated QB recruit ever. Lets also remember he isn't an 18 year old lacking some maturity either. If he is as good as projected, we are only getting 3 years out of him one way or the other, why can't this be one of them.

I just remember the cheers of "Ty-Rod Tay-Lor" from the stands when we struggled in the opener against ECU and knowing there was no chance in hell of TT geting a redshirt that year. I also thought it was cute they tried to say they'd redshirt him the next year.
I think it was said by another poster in another thread, but I think the question you have to answer (as best you can at this point) is who do you foresee as your QB next year. If that answer is Lawson, I think you have to burn the shirt and get the kid game experience now. The experience will have him way ahead of the curve for next year, leading to a potentially huge season! And there is never a better opportunity to do that and be able to withstand those inevitable freshmen mistakes, then during a string of games against Furman, Purdue and East Carolina. While the sample size is small, I just don't think Motley is a Power 5 starting QB. And you can't have an offense at this level that is wildcat based. If you can't throw the ball consistently, defenses are going to stack the box and smother your running game. I, like probably everyone else here, don't have any idea what Durkin can do, but from all I've read from the "experts", he doesn't seem likely to relegate Lawson to the bench for the next four years. So, if that's the case, I say lets take our lumps now when we have a schedule that will likely allow us to absorb them and still pull out W's, and a few games down the road, we may be seeing the dynamic, big-time QB that everyone has been clamoring about with Lawson. We did it with Tyrod, and were seeing it being done today at a number of Power 5 schools across the country. I suspect it would also be great for recruiting that next big time QB recruit, when he sees that we are a school that's not afraid to let a true frosh come in and play.

The recap of the game by Mr. Koma was extremely well written, the timing and choice of quotes dispersed throughout made it an exceptional read. Your X's and O's guy who visited 11w is also an amazing talent. After reading through the comments, the commentariate is as level headed as one can be about their team, and reminds me of 11w once again. Thanks for collaborating with our guys to give an amazing preview of the game.
As far as the actual game goes, Va Tech impressed me. I predicted a 42-17 final score for OSU, but I expected it to come much easier than it did. It was a shame your QB got injured when he did since I think the final score would have been a bit closer, even though I think the outcome would have ultimately been the same. Brewer displayed true mental toughness and grit throughout both games we played, its too bad his body betrayed him before his mind this time.
Your D-line is what impressed me the most though. Last year I was under the impression that the only reason we lost was because of our O-line being so inexperienced and having to face an exotic Bud Foster defensive scheme. This year I knew our O-line was coming in as one of the best units in the country so I thought we would roll this time around. While there was definite improvement this year, your D-lineman ended up in the backfield and getting a good push off the line more times than I remember the vaunted Alabama line getting through in the Sugar bowl this past January. I think they have a bigger, more physical group than you guys, but the sheer speed of your line caught us off guard on multiple plays, it was not just the scheme as I had been assuming.
It has been a fun past couple of years with you guys, hope your team rallies together and makes the most of their season!

As a student, I like option 2 better. Printing out others' tickets and using them to get into NEZ should be absolutely prohibited and stopped immediately
It says to me as soon as Brewer went down, they stopped giving a shit about the results of a non-conference game and tried to get out of it without anyone else taking so much as a papercut. I think the QB conversation started in earnest today.
I for one am not concerned. We can grow as a team and make the playoffs.

Worst the dude did was defend his starting QB. Rubbed me the wrong way at first, but honestly, if we had a players as good as Cardale, I'd probably defend some of his behavior, too. Cosmo is one of the good ones. I hope he sticks around.
It would be a serious long term mistake to completely change the offense this year. This program needs stability and it needs to be running the offense these kids have trained the last few years to run. If Motley cannot run the offense we were going to run under Brewer, he should not be our QB going forward.

I attended both fall scrimmages - they are not anywhere close.
I would love to see Lawson on the field, but the chances of him making a really bad play or an exceptional one are about 50/50 right now. Motley may not have the ceiling, but I think he has to be the choice right now. Let him iron out the kinks against Furman and Purdue.
I want Lawson to play and be electric, but I think he needs some time in the playbook and to understand how to be a college football player. A couple of plays in the scrimmages made me shake my head based on effort alone, which is not acceptable IMO.
The way he played last night I'm not sure how you get 8 wins out of Motley this year. A straight wishbone will not win us many games this year. We need to be able to pass and the Loeffler offensive scheme depends on it. Wishbone is not something we routinely practice and is not something we will be running long term. Long term, it would be a mistake to completely shift the prep for this entire offense just to have Motley at QB.
Our QB going forward has to be the one who can best run the offense we had spent all offseason preparing. And if Lawson truly is the guy of the future, you have to seriously consider going with him now. Get his feet wet against Furman, Purdue, and ECU, and let's see what he can do.

I think with Motley being a dual threat qb, along with all the remaining backups being dual threat too, we should probably start chop blocking and running the triple option. We just need Loeffler to channel his inner Paul Johnson.
The problem with starting Lawson is that we aren't running a Stinespring offense anymore. We can't throw Lawson in the game and tell him "if the hot read isn't open, just make shit up and run around". Our offense is currently not designed to be easy to understand and pick up. Lawson won't even see as much success as Tyrod Taylor did his freshman year, even if we make the assumption that they possess the same skill level, which is doubtful because Tyrod was a 5*.
