Yeah, I'm supportive of "rallying around Motley" for now, but if Motley isn't taking the position by the horns in practice and he feels he needs to pull the 'shirt on Lawson, I'm not complaining. I would even support playing Lawson as Motley's backup for the next two months, get his feet wet with an opportunity to beat Motley out (or play extensively if Motley gets hurt).
Lawson's redshirt doesn't mean a thing to me. Play the best guy or guys. Win games.

Absolutely, it looked like it had nothing behind it and 8 times out of 10 gets picked, but I can only hope it boosts his confidence moving forward. You've got your first TD and it came against a hell of a team, now keep doing it.

Beamer mentioned Chris Durkin by name as someone who will get more reps this week. Both Beamer and Loeffler hinted at freshman Dwayne Lawson getting a longer look, although neither uttered his name. The Hokies will have to consider all options.

We have taken a qb every year. There just isn't enough time to get two guys starter reps in college.
That's a killer break.
I'm hoping he recovers quickly.
Unless Beamer retires and we get a brilliant offensive-minded coach, I don't ever see another VT quarterback leaving early to the NFL. Michael Vick was a special special talent.

There was some holding going on in the first half that wasn't getting called. So I didn't really shed a tear for OSU when that TD was called back over TWO different holding flags on that play.
I think OSU fans can stop belly-aching about that TD being called back. After all, that's why there are rules to begin with.
Five total Hokies on one NFL team, has to be a record.
The big plays were the killer. I believe I heard a stat on the post-game radio show that there were 10 plays of 20 yards or more that accounted for somewhere near 300 yards of offense. That's incredible. Too many horses for us to contain. And then throw in the fatigue factor when we couldn't mount, yet alone sustain any drives after Brewer went down, and it was lights out.
key for a freshmen to succeed is have tons of talent surrounding him and have the O coordinator get him in the grove early with a couple quick throws and run the ball on 1st down. We have tons of talent in Bucky, Malleck, Cam, Ford, McMillian and others.

You're certainly saying all the right things, though I don't believe that was the biggest crowd ever to see a football game, even if it was the biggest crowd ever at the Shoe.

There was also a recognition that probably was the game right there. It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if he could have played the whole game. He has a way of making some amazing completions.
I respect Bud Foster for sticking with the Bear front pretty much the whole game. He was going to take away Elliott (and inside QB run) and he basically did (80 yarder excepted). I also question it because it was a huge gamble - basically hoping that Ohio State wouldn't hit too many explosive plays. But there were too many dynamic players out there for them to not get loose a lot. I thought BF would mix it up and disguise more. He forced Ohio State to go feast or famine, and there was some of the latter, but enough of the former.
That 2nd qtr had the Buckeyes stagnating due to the Tech D, but you also had a holding penalty that nullified a 21-0 lead, a missed FG, a pick, and a muff. VT needed the same kind of things to happen in the 2nd half to keep the game where they could win it. At least 17 of the Hokies points followed those kinds of mistakes, and you have to give the players credit for creating or taking advantage of them, but it's hard to keep 'em coming the whole game.
But great environment and great game right up until Brewer's injury.
I'm really interested to see what Motley will look at with a week of first team reps. That defense is going to keep the Hokies in a lot of games. If the offense can just generate 20 points, that should win games.

The OL move seemed to work quite well, I thought. Nijman must have made excellent progress through August camp. The guy is going to be a beast for us.

For a period of several years, I thought Rece Davis and Chris Fowler were the same guy. Now, I know that Fowler is just what Davis will look like in 20 years.
Oh, back on topic...kinda sorta. I saw the similarities, which was more troubling to me. Backup QB with limited playbook gets thrown into bad situation...ugh.
In all honesty if Lawson is the future, throw him in there now and get him the experience. Get brewer back for the last 3 games and let him finish out his college career and you get an experienced Lawson in for next season.
Also, I don't recall which side of the line the blitz came on the brewer hit. On one post it said Gallo. I was also confused as to why Nijman played so much. I though Osterloh was supposed to play if anything happened at Guard or tackle. From what i saw, Hansen got hurt, McGlock moved to right tackle and Nijman at Left tackle.

Agreed. We lost by 4 pts more than the spread and we lost our QB. Overall, that's not bad. And a lot of good things happened as well. Here is what I'm looking for the rest of the year:
1. Run the ball for nearly 200 yards per game.
2. Motley > 60 yards per game rushing.
3. Top 4 of ACC in redzone efficiency.
4. Identification of a primary RB
5. TE's involvement in passing game (this was Brewer's strength).
6. Defense -- 3 to 4 sacks per game.
7. Trying other options at MLB.
8. Top 4 in ACC in penalty yards
9. Missed FG's should be a rarity, not one per game.
10. Top 6 in ACC in T/O margin
11. One 20+ yard turn of field position per game (punt returns, KO returns, TO returns)
12. Three 20+yard offensive plays per game
We need to get better game by game. Get us to November with a shot at winning the division and getting Brewer back.
