# | Hokies Fail to Recapture Columbus Magic, Fall to Buckeyes 42-24 and Lose QB Michael Brewer im not even mad at OSU. The memory on 2014 is still fresh. VT silenced 107 thousand fans at the shoe and OSU silenced Hokienation. I call it even . it's just the first game . it does not make or break the season.
Man, Kendall is getting destroyed on Twitter. Mike Thomas and Cardale Williams heading it up. Herbstreit even joining in on it.
Smh
I know Beamer has already said Durkin will get some reps this week and that he's "eager to see" Lawson, and I don't think you should have more than 2 Qb's splitting reps on a short week.
The staff should have seen enough of Motley by now in his several years with the program that I'm not quite sure what 3 more practices would add honestly....
Lawson and Durkin should split reps. If neither is better than Motley then just buckle in and pray we make it to a bowl game.
+1 for Techmo Bowl usage
and I totally agree

# | Hokies Fail to Recapture Columbus Magic, Fall to Buckeyes 42-24 and Lose QB Michael Brewer A loss to the #1 team is well.. A loss to #1. And for a reason, they were doing some work blocking, and throwing a lot of looks out there. That team is gonna be tough for anybody... Besides a slip up, I don't see them dropping one.
Shout out to every single anOSU fan I met this weekend - you guys were great visitors.
8 weeks? Pull it. Pull the redshirt now. Like go into his dorm room before he goes to sleep tonight and pull it out of the closet and make him watch as it burns to cinders. (PS, yes, I know there's not actually a red shirt involved.)
8 weeks has him back for the Techmo Bowl, with five ACC games behind us. The season could be lost at that point.
Yup. Gotta do it. Bitter pill but gotta swallow it. Apply for a sixth year of eligibility for Brewer and go all-in with Lawson.
you might have missed it:

come on Hokies. Jones lit us up. Him doing a little social media trash talk isn't anything to get upset about. Chill and let's regroup for the season.
They definitely used tighter splits this year and that helped limit the penetration up front. It seemed like our guys were getting to Jones early in the game and coming in out of control and missing, giving up contain, etc. I'm sure the coaches told them to come more under control but it got to the point where we were just hand fighting up front and not getting off the ball at all. Tough situation to have 225 and 245 pound DEs playing in a 3-technique and hand fighting at the LOS.
I actually thought the RVD played a better game than Clarke did off the edge and I definitely agree with seeing Nicholas lined up out wide.
It really hurt that the strongest position we have (DT) was so limited by the personnel grouping. We started using Marshall more in the second half and he was more effective than Ekanem in the 3 tech but overall those guys didn't get to see the field much.
We had some matchup issues but the MLB play was just too glaring and it was impossible to overcome.
Totally agree. None of the OSU fans here, except the obvious troll, have said anything wrong. Sure they are on a VT blog but community rules state we downvote for offensive comments. Jones did torch us all night. Fact. Fuller got beat. Fact. Braxton Miller turnt that shit up. Fact. Of course their gonna do a little trash talking. Does anyone remember Bucky doing a little dance in the OSU endzone? come on people.
the OSU fan that created the vine about Brewer can burn in hell though
Back atcha, Buckeye. Enjoy your many, many, many wins this season.
I remember the comentators during the William and Mary game last season talking about how JC wore a watch to remind himself that it was his time. I believe this was just more of the same. I don't see why that's a problem in the slightest.
Seriously, dude, our QB situation is sketchy. We had to talk LT into switching back to QB from TE before Loeffler got here. Scot has recruited like mad at QB, but one of his guys transferred, one's a r-Fr wildcat threat, and one's a raw as hell 4-star. Motley is his one inherited QB and ran the option at a high school about twenty minutes from VT's campus. That's how bad it got, we were filling out the roster with option QBs from our backyard.
If Brewer is out for more than the 4-6, I'm not sure what we do at QB. This could be a long year. I hope you realize how insanely good you have it with your QB situation. That's not sour grapes, that's reality. What UM has done with your 3-deep at QB is something you have to wait at the crossroads at midnight to accomplish.
It's going to be an open QB battle from this point. If Lawson is even close to the same level as Durkin or Motley you play him because he has the upside.
He could be a great student and a community person but his social media skills/social smarts are that of a 16 year old.
Win with Humility especially when you're supposed to win and by 50+
I expect troll comments from fans not players. That's not their job win or lose STFU and move on.
PS Cardale wasn't even that good 8-19 for 186 2tds and 1 pick. He was 1 VT TD away from being pulled for JT.
You seem like a reasonable fan so I have to ask, as someone who doesn't follow OSU, what pieces of the Cardale puzzle I'm seemingly missing. The only parts I know is the infamous tweet, him running up the score in Madden on the kid at the hospital, and now this tweet. Personally, none of those instances strike me as down to earth or demonstrating good character/judgment. So from an outside perspective, it's not hard to see him more as a QB who won a national title and can do no wrong in the eyes of a fan base.
Well, I'm sorry yall did. After all, you guys were more prepared last year and beat us fair and square. I know a lot of people used the "our o line was inrxoerienced" excuse. Which is beyond stupid. Our guys were expected to step up and didn't answer the call and we lost. You just have to find a way to win with what you have. Same with VT tonight. Inexperience, injury, or suspension is not an excuse. Never should be since its a team game

# | Hokies Fail to Recapture Columbus Magic, Fall to Buckeyes 42-24 and Lose QB Michael Brewer I was okay with losing. I really was. Whether it be a 17-16 loss or an 80-0 blowout. Whether we are completely outplayed or shoot ourselves in the foot. I was fine with it.
But this. This stings. We were playing EXTREMELY well as a unit going into the half. Momentum was on our side. Even with the Buckeyes TD, I was confident we could pull ahead.
Then he got injured. Not his fault in the slightest, but it completely deflated the team. Not to mention Motley looked like a deer into headlights although he had a few nice runs.
Maybe we would've still lost with Brewer in, but it would've been a helluva a lot closer. We maybe even might've pulled it off.
There are a million ways this game could've gone resulting in a loss, this is the only one that really hurts me.
EDIT: Also, I don't think Motley is our guy. He has had 2-3 years to play and understand the offense. He has looked extremely mediocre everytime he has been put in the spotlight. Luckily Furman and Purdue aren't powerhouses but if Brewer's injury puts him out any longer than we will start incurring losses.
Just saying my fairly wells..just wanted to say that that's a hell of a full back you've got. The kid is a beast. Sucks seeing injuries, good luck moving forward. You'll do fine. So long Hokies!!
vtguitarman.. paging vtguitarman
I'm going guess that watch is a family keepsake. father's, grandfather's... and he had it there for inspiration.
BUT even if it isn't and it's just a watch. then IT"S JUST A WATCH. who the phuck cares
Disagree. Even with taking Beamer's age/career out of the equation, I don't see how you can let Hodges/Ford/Phillips/Malleck squander an entire year of eligibility.
If Lawson is being redshirted, then I would say go ahead and redshirt Ford, Phillips, Shai, and just about everyone else that can be at this point. That's obviously not going to happen but I wouldn't expect Brewer to return later on. Goforth has already moved 4-6 weeks to 8-weeks, and even if that number doesn't keep going up, he couldn't start right away.
If you're going to play Lawson, I agree with French that you do it right away. He can have some success against Furman and should be able to get a run game going the next few weeks with the OL play. Sidenote: Nijman proved a LOT of people wrong. He is going to be a stud at LT.
I mean, I don't want to be inflammatory...But I've seen nothing but people diminishing the intelligence of an honor roll student (and social media savvy kid) on all corners of the internet and even via hanging bedsheets out a window on campus....You think he doesn't see any of that and feel it? I saw on a few various OSU blogs about his extra motivation.
Giving OSU so many chances to break big plays, eventually it's gonna happen. With Brewer on the field potentially converting 3rd downs, and a running game gaining ground, it would have been VT just grinding it out, giving the D a rest and hopefully getting a TD after a sustained drive. Then give the rested D a chance to make another stop. That was the recipe to win.

Losing your starting QB for a month+ can make or break your season.
