You don't know how far you can go until you try, and he shows some signs of competence as a QB. He just never had the consistency.
He also made it a lot further as an NFL QB that most college QBs. Lots of professional scouts have seen some potential.
He's very athletic, so it may well be he finds another position, but not all QBs work out. See: All of college football.
If Metallica will play in Blacksburg for the lead in, then ESPN would know. ESPN would be more likely to leak this information than VT, since more production hype should lead to better viewership.
