They couldn't put Sam in a green or blue jersey for the spring because they knew he'd just go full speed anyways. They literally had to take his pads away when they started doing contact work.

I hope Im wrong, but Im thinking Coleman might have trouble running the ball against Ohio State and maybe Trey will end up getting more carries. I think JC can, however, be a weapon in this game and I predict he will make a big play, possibly receiving. Its interesting that Stroman loses and inch as well as 5 lbs when he goes to return punts.

IMO if they match this helmet with the orange jersey it would look hideous. The oranges wouldn't clash sooo much it would be an eye sore.
But do you really burn a redshirt for him to get maybe 30 snaps total between Furman and Purdue?
You don't burn the redshirt for garbage time snaps - only meaningful snaps. If there are no meaningful snaps out there for him, then you keep the redshirt.
I prefer this helmet with the orange jersey and white pants, but it will look fine with the maroon pants and jersey's as well.
I have never seen us wear orange pants well. Never, not once. And I was at the tragic "Maurice DeShazo Throws All The Picks UVA" game.

I think any game action he can get could be a meaningful stepping stone to next year, and, on top of that, reduces the likelihood that Brewer gets hurt (which could be reduced with any quarterback of course). I don't see us blowing anyone out to the point that we'll be able to get a backup in before halftime or anything, but I'm hoping there will be enough leeway in more than a couple of games where we can get him a drive or two.
As HokieJeep points out, though, I don't think Lawson or VT gains anything by redshirting this year. Since most of the guys we have this year will be back on offense next year, I think we do gain something tangible by playing him. I surely don't want him to have his first action coming when he's supposed to be the starter as a r-Fr.

Why would one eat their mascot on gameday? Isn't that something the opposing team's fans usually do?
