Grimes recruited those guys for his stretch zone scheme. Go back and look at the NFL average OL sizes in the late 90's, then look at the average size OL that Alex Gibbs had when the Broncos were winning Super Bowls and turning Olandis Gary into a 1000 yard rusher.
Grimes recruited guys that fit his system. And Grimes had proven ability to recruit nationally. To me, Searels has been a backyard recruiter up until his VT tenure. He will have to be a national recruiter to succeed in Blacksburg, because there isn't enough Virginia OL to go around.
That license plate will have to get updated every year...but that's ok.

Deputy Director of a 9-1-1 center in central Michigan. My center dispatches all the law, medical, and fire first responders for the county. Got into this after I retired from the military after 20 years.
My most important job is trying to raise a 14 YO son and two daughters (12 & 10). Harder than any job ever but the most satisfying (although there are times........)

A close loss pays very little dividends. I understand that people may feel that a win could lead to overlooking future opponents or something related to a "letdown". But a team that cannot take the big win, build on it, and take care of business, is not a team that can get it done after a close loss vs #1.
It helps when you've spent more than 1 year with your position coach.
