I appreciate your honesty, and you can and should follow your conscience, but without the athletic department, what would be the point of TKP?
So let me ask you this what would make it worthwhile? I get that people don't have a lot of extra income and I'm not asking that, but your criticism seemed more that it just is not worth giving to.
Stable of running backs = achieved! I am excited about his potential too. I really want to see a long TD run this year! Over 50+ yards!
Besides the fine details of how we are still making mistakes I think these last two scrimmages went better then we have had before! I am really getting excited for the whole season coming up! Both sides of the ball!
I heard of this said about other players before, but I do like to hear that he gets open a lot. That was the trademark of Danny Coale besides all of his catches, you watch the highlights and he always found a way to get open. Check out the 2010 ACCCG.
Football players showing up to play for a fake football team? This problem has been existing in Charlottsville for years.

They tell me junior year is the hardest. 2nd semester junior year is lovingly referred to as "hell semester"
And then the wheels fall off like they did after McGlock went down last season. Building cohesion across multiple personnel groupings isn't the worst idea.
There is a buckeye tree at work and the parking lot is always covered in crushed nuts around this time of year. I also think there is one in Oak Lane out front of one of the houses that has held multiple sororities that have been kicked off campus. Coincidence?

Or you could just keep the 1st string OL together and run the 2nd OL vs. the starting defense.
I just can't justify it as a worthwhile charity to give to. I want to give as much as I can to charity, but I don't see the Hokie Club moving up Givewell's list of recommended charities anytime soon. Even then, I'd prefer to give money to TKP or the academic side of the university.
One of my biggest worries is the fact that on all the deep balls Barrett threw that game, none of them were back shoulder. This is something ECU obviously saw on film, and the next week, they tore us apart with it. There were at least 4 instances in the OSU game where Barrett threw a deep ball and one of our DBs were able to get their hand up into the catching pocket of the OSU receiver. On back shoulder throws, this isn't possible if the DB's back is turned to the QB. If we want to win again on Labor Day, the defense is going to have to play a great game, and getting beat on 4 or 5 20-yard passes or more is not going to do it.
Many of them still think it's a fluke, and that we will roll over and play dead, that they will win 100-0, and braxton and elliot will run for 500 yds a piece, both qb's will throw for 1000 yds and that the best D in college football will just be overwhelmed (like last year haha) and that they are the only team to have gotten better in all areas, a lot of their fans will be truly disappointed to see that offense get worn down by a DT position that is 3 strings deep. I hope their coach and players are just as arrogant and mad that they can't even play fundamentally sound football and just force and rush plays and get nowhere and draw penalties!

Unless I wasn't told something that's not the case at all.
I'll be honest, early retirement largely due to my wife's disability has severely limited my discretionary income, at least for a few years. Living on Social Security income, especially for someone who doesn't have much of that, either, has been a challenge. Yeah, I could, and perhaps will, go back to work in some way, and I do expect my income to change in the future for a couple of reasons, but for now, it just isn't going to happen. It's as simple as that. I do plan to leave money to VT, both academic and athletic sides, upon my demise. Hope that doesn't happen soon, but it'll happen.
When I was younger, and more productive, I was in a group of friends who donated together for membership and football (and sometimes basketball) season tickets. Of course, I would urge everyone who can swing it to support the athletic dept. by joining the Hokie Club, and to write a fat check to TKP while they're at it. But for me, I did what I could, when I could, but now, well, I pretty much can't.
Wanted to revive this discussion, with the Hokie Club now over 10,000 members and the cost to the atheltic dept only going up I'd like to see if people have any new thoughts on this issue.
