I really meant to ask about the slot, short-game receiver and everybody offered some really good possible answers to the puzzle. I hope and believe that we'll be a much better deep threat passing team this year, but still believe that underneath game will also be very key. I must've been stoned when I thought I remembered the majority of Coale's catches coming in the short-to-intermediate game...sorry 'bout that guys! I think that you're probably right about the "committee" approach to the short passing game. Go HOKIES!
Yes, it was career, but I think the last 8 of his first 12 games as a Hokie can still be considered early in Brewer's career too. It's worth noting that his season INT/ATT ratio was 0.033, a tick below Glennon and a tick above Vick.
I counter your point that a power running game has more to do with the OL than it does the back. If the OL can get a push, any RB on our roster can help move the pile. If we are counting on our RB to push the pile 2 yards in order to get 3 or 4 total, then we don't have a sustainable power run game.
Year by year or for their career? A lot of VT QB's struggled early on in their career only to be much better as juniors/seniors. That was especially true for Bryan Randall, who had a terrible 2002 season. Mike Vick never had the chance to develop like that.

I think that is more the playbook/playcalling than it is a proficiency thing.

Yeah I get that, but it just seems even more of a risk to expect that of him than to not.
If both Marshawn and Shai were back for the opener, then I would say absolutely. But since JC isn't exactly a guy who can move the pile and Trey has not been a downhill runner since he was last healthy in 2013, we just simply don't have the personnel in the backfield. We have enough options in the passing game to stay balanced.

There was a moment when I found myself alone in a bathroom with him though. We looked at each other and I couldn't think of much to say but I knew he knew I recognized him. It was super awkward.

Don't get me wrong, they're both good offensive formations, but we see Miami and a traditional formation many times more year after year. Can Miami beat us? Without question. Every time? Not with a CBF defense. Can OSU beat us? Again, without question (although they haven't done it yet). Every time? See previous answer.
If I recall correctly, Brewer took very few snaps under center last year. I'm not a proponent that "taking a snap under center" is a skill that a QB can't do proficiently even if they did go to Texas Tech at one point, but is it a thing with Brewer?
Better question is probably with or without Luther Maddy. My point is that when Bud's defense can shut down or have epic breakdowns against any opponent. I don't have numbers in front of me to back this up, but I don't think Bud's consistently done much worse against up-tempo offenses.

# | "Ohio State players ready for rematch with Virginia Tech" By Mark Berman Honestly, I'm a little scared of no-huddle offenses because we don't see them very often. I definitely think Bud can overcome, but its the time between getting beat by it and adapting that will probably influence who wins this game. That and if tech's offense can perform as well as everyone acts like they can. And tOSU has a very scary defense to test that offense on. If we can come out and execute well on offense, as long as the d adapts well to the gameplay of tOSU, I see this as being a complete toss up. If our offense has problems, the buckeyes will roll over top of us because we can't get the d off the field, which has been a huge problem the last 3 years.
For our offense to execute, we need 2 running backs to consistently put up 3-4 yds per carry to open up the passing game.
