Yea I agree. On the surface it very much seems like they're trying to make an example out of him to say that athletes will not get special treatment and going a little far with it.

That's why I'm grappling with this a bit - where do we draw the line? Grades are off-limits and thus so is any action in the Honor Court, which solely judges academic violations. That's protected by federal law. I don't know what the jurisdiction or oversight is on the Student Conduct board. I don't feel like its proceedings should be secret. Seems like the potential for abuse is extremely high here. Maybe Reavis catastrophically screwed up. Maybe he didn't. The fact that a student at a public university was dismissed and the public can't know why troubles me.
I've posted this before but I have heard from someone within the team that it potentially had to do with a woman. Outside of that I have no other info but take it for what it's worth
I think that plane belongs to someone on the Board of Visitors and whoever it is allows Coach Beamer and others to use it.
I think I agree but where do we draw the line of what is and isn't public? Grades aren't public. I can appreciate the attempt at privacy I guess but there does have to be some transparency in how rules are enforced.
Could it be something as simple as inappropriate touching? Maybe one word against another and not a criminal charge.
Agreed with this. And really, it should apply to all schools, public and private, but it should definitely apply to public universities. As taxpayers, we certainly have a right to know if our tax money is being used to fund a council that is routinely overstepping its bounds and dismissing students for trivial matters.
Look, Reavis' dismissal could be completely legit and appropriate, but the fact that taxpayers, students, parents, and alumni who are helping to fund this council are not allowed to know what they actually do is disturbing.
half the guys on my hall freshman year got kicked out of VT for posting a youtube video of them having a huge party in their dorm room. Granted, they were all underage, etc. but still. Expelled. One strike you're out!
It seems about the other the same schedule as the other teams at #8. A really good team, a not so good Big 5 team, a better team from a not Big 5 conference, and an FCS. I don't care how good/bad the FCS team is, its FCS and you should beat them if you're not FCS.
also, i know people have talked about cheating/academic issues, but wouldnt that be held with the honor court and not student conduct? all i know is ive had a few friends face ridiculous, trumped up punishments for fairly benign things they have done in the past few years. my faith, as a recent grad, is pretty low in the student conduct board.

True, they got him at bargain price, but he doesn't deserve "top quarterback" pay either. IMHO the defense and running game has carried that team. Yes, he has made critical plays and has managed games very well, but give him an average RB and defense and does the team make the playoffs? I doubt it. That being said, he does deserve more than he is currently making, but not top level pay.
