Small world, we're just in town for the weekend and decided to bring a new future Hokie to check one thing off the bucket list. It was a good choice, however, the drive back was quite difficult fighting the food coma.
PSA: For anyone who hasn't been to Homeplace in the last year (me included), they now charge extra for the dessert cobbler and do not leave full pitchers of arnold palmer mixins at the table. Something about rising costs of products and too much wasted food.
I wouldn't sleep on ASU. I have season tickets as my wife is an alum. They are putting together a good program here.
I can't for the life of me figure out what the recruiting draw to Tempe is though....
It was ours. That to me is enough to want it back.
My opinion...
I think if they lose a couple early, they'll pull a Boeheim and declare themselves ineligible for a bowl this year, reduce a couple of schollies, forfeit a bunch of wins from 5-10 years ago, and try to minimize the damage. Football was up to its eyeballs in the fake classes/grades.
Women's basketball and football will be the sacrificial lambs to try to minimize the harm to their men's basketball legacy.
They have to have some relationship with him.
I would like to think that if VT did, then a lot more Ocean Lakes guys would be on the team.
The Notice of Allegations is so long apparently few have bothered to read them.
There are 252 items listed in allegation 1, regarding the fake classes and grades. There are numerous references to football players and dozens of correspondence involving Cynthia Reynolds, the football contact in the academic support program for athletes, spanning several years.
So Fedora tells recruit, 'football isn't mentioned in the charges'. Which is true. He probably just forgets to mention there are numerous examples of football players taking fake classes and getting fake grades to stay eligible.
But doing that alone doesn't allow FSU-Miami, NC State-UNC, and GT-Clemson to play every year. That was one of the main reasons that eliminating the cross-divisional rivals was opposed by those schools. Since they can now schedule those match-ups as OOC games, that hurdle has been cleared and we are that much closer to getting rid of the cross-divisional rivals.
Well if you really want to know you could, you know, actually buy the magazine....
C'mon! Who really avoids the self check out line?
Ehhh.....

I'm sure at the beginning of 2012 we were in the Top 15 if not Top 10 for the Future Power Rankings. Look where we ended up. These lists don't mean anything.
"Recruiting" accusations have been around VB for a loooooong time. Sid Pearl, who started the Woodstock Mustangs rec league team in the 60's (now the VB Mustangs Pop Warner team run by his son Bruce) told me he was always being accused of recruiting. "The kids would all come to ME", he told me in protest, and I truly believe him. In essence, if you are successful, the kids - actually the PARENTS - are going to figure out a way to get their kids to the "programs" that are more likely to get their kids noticed and advance their football "careers".
I have to think the same stuff goes on in soccer, and I am aware of it going on in field hockey. Cox HS won something like 15 straight titles in field hockey. That wasn't something in the district water that turned those teams into champions.
Parents are competitive and clued in. They want the best for their kids, and I cannot find any fault in what they do. Laying the blame on the coaches is the obvious play, and I read the evidence in the article, but I know it is a 2 way street, and the other side isn't mentioned at all.
I also know that every school in the Beach has players, or has recently had players, that really don't live in the district. Much like the rumored gentlemen's agreement among SEC coaches with respect to recruiting violations, everybody is wise to what is going on in the Beach, and it isn't until someone takes a loss in the playoffs, or maybe misses the playoffs, that the recruiting violation arrow gets drawn from the quiver.
I remember a kid named Heastie a few years ago that played for at least 3 different HS teams. Parents, as well as a lot of recruiters and coaches, were jumping on that hype train, and I scratched my head in amazement. The buzz didn't quite match the talent, from where I sat. I think he ended up at WVU and quickly disappeared from the radar screens.
Anyway, it looks like Chris Scott may have lost a little control, maybe got a little too competitive, felt his oats...whatever. But I still think he is a good guy and a good coach. He will look at this, make changes, and life will go on. The tide will inevitably flow away from OL and to another Beach school. The history of VB football powers shows a constantly changing landscape of different teams taking the reigns from FC to Bayside to PA to Landstown to Salem and round and round. That shifting of dominance is almost proof enough that kids aren't staying in their home districts, and never have.
I just saw your car in front of Homeplace. Good choice!
Sounds like a uniform change next year. Can't wait for those summer '16 discussion boards.
If it bring in millions so be it.
One of these years coming up we play both Michigan and Penn State. I'm looking forward to that.
FUTURE power rankings aren't worth the electronic bits required to carry them.
It'll be the Stop-in Foster Field presented by TruGreen ChemLawn at the Carrilion Beamer Barn presented by Tostitos.
Do we have any sort of recruiting connection with the ocean lakes hs coach?
@LoveVanOSU:
You're welcome, but we hope not to oblige you. Hard to believe you guys ever have personnel issues. For fun's sake, what if you got the win by a point last year, do you think you would have seen the same OSU team by year's end?
That'll start when our Fullers start having kids.
Did I read that right, UVa plays Boise, Notre Dame and UCLA? I wouldn't mind that line up for us. We could win, they won't.
Simply eliminating the cross-divisional rivals in favor of two rotating cross-divisional games per year would cut in half the number of years waiting for any particular cross-divisional matchup.
Take VT giving or taking the points in all of those except Pitt. That one's about right...maybe even a bit too high for VT.

Absolutely small world. I'm only in town today with future Mrs. VT_Fencer looking at wedding venues.
