Encouraging quotes about Buzz from Mark Berman's 3/22 article about Trevor transfer
Buzz has proven he can recruit and he can win. He brings a terrific work ethic.
----- TV analyst Len Elmore
I dont know that [Tech] could have hired a better fit.
Buzz may be the best recruiter of any head coach in the country.
If there's anybody that can turn that program and rebuild it, it would be Buzz.
---- Liberty University HC Dale Layer, close friend and former colleage. Williams worked under Layer at Colorado State. Layer later worked under Williams at Marquette.
Hes blue collar all the way. He will embrace the community.
Williams does an incredible amount of community service, including running a foundation for kids with special needs.
You guys got an unbelievable coach and man.
He has an incredible passion for what he does. His clothes are going to the cleaners after every game. He's going to sweat right through them.
He's a really good game coach; hes a better practice coach.
Player development is one of Williams strong suits, said Wainwright.
He's turned out a lot of guys that are in the NBA or had an opportunity to play in the NBA that werent necessarily household names [originally].
incredible recruiter (two of Marquettes freshmen this year ranked top 50 recruits in the nation).
He has ties everywhere.
---- Marquette assistant coach (two seasons) Jerry Wainwright and former HC at UNC Wilmington, Richmond and Big East member DePaul, where he coached against Williams.
I'm surprised they gave you another computer after the day you found out Newsome was going to be Head Coach at your alma mater.
Agree with the general theme. Every season you can get excited about the defense and the possibilities (especially now with 2 freshman lockdown corners). Its because of Bud and Torrian. These guys produce. They take what they get and improve them. No all coaching staffs can say that. If you look at the teams that are generally in the top 10-15 in team defense it generally will correspond to the class rankings of recruits. We typically OVERACHIEVE our class ranking based on our defensive ranking at the end of the season.
Still a little concerned that a team that had Mike Vick on campus still gets shredded by mobile Qb's, so I'm not blind. But in Foster I trust.
Translation: "Many people were surprised that Virginia Tech hired a qualified coach to rebuild the program."
Aaaaarrrrgggghhh!!! No! Please stop that, AAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaa......
Please make it go away!
Bud embodies the old Hokie spirit which the team has lost the last few years( 5 to 10 yrs). Just a great coach!
I just hope we can hold onto him over the long haul. He has every bit the opportunity right now to do for VT basketball what Frank did for VT football, and we now have a AD in place that is willing to put the money into the program to ensure it happens. I cannot wait to see what the next couple years have in place for VT basketball. I would not be shocked to hear we're considering a drastic makeover of Cassell over the next couple years to give the venue a bit of an edge. Whit seems like the kind of guy who can get things done, and thats awesome. I'm no longer dreading Beamer's retirement. I have full faith we're going to knock his replacement hire out of the park as well.
French, only you can get me as jazzed up for the spring game as I get for a regular season game.
Never realized that Devin Vandyke was an inside LB, I figured he was going to be a whip like his brother. Would be awesome to have multiple Vandykes out there wrecking shop.
Typical CBS stupid statement:
"Many people were surprised by the move, considering Williams has led Marquette to five NCAA Tournament in six seasons and Virginia Tech has struggled recently."
Seriously a complete lack of forward thinking in that statement considering what's happening with the Big East and the ACC over the next year or so. Good Grief that's dumb IMO!

About Stallworth, that was kind of my point. You don't see a big group of people protesting everywhere Stallworth goes in the league and he served an even lighter sentence for killing a human being. Vick served an outlandishly long sentence for what he was convicted of compared to others convicted of the same crime. The average sentence for his crime was 8 months, with good conduct release at 4 months. Vick was convicted for 23 months and served all of it because of how high profile he was. The prosecutor and the judge used Vick's publicity to make him an example. Some will argue it wasn't long enough. Did what he do make me angry? Sure. Do I think that with how our justice system is that he should have been treated differently than others convicted of the same crime? No. Do I think that he should still have to deal with as much negative publicity compared to others like Stallworth, who only makes the news now when he gets burned in a hot air balloon accident? No.
test
This ^^^ should have a trillion turkey legs. It really made me laugh out loud bro. Nicely played.
+1. So damn true. Fortunately I've been labeled as "laundry incompetent" since the early dating days.
And this is why I fell in Love with Virginia Tech, heck I don't even live in VA and have only been to Blacksburg twice. With that said the people there(Blacksburg) and all around the USA are so genuine, its an unbelievable fan base to be a part of and I love the players attitude towards the community and life in general. Antone is a special individual and I hope he hears his name come draft day!
Rob, love the new label "HOOPS WIZ". You deserve that moniker.
You do good work on this topic for all of us TKPers.
Thanks and congrats!
I know i'm probably the only one who believes this, but i dont like this as a start. It doesnt send out good vibes when on the first day that you have met the players you're calling someone out in front of his teammates. sure Trevor may have been soft and may have been leaning towards transfer, but still, i dont believe this sends good vibes.
One of the things I hope Whit does is to reintroduce the logo and allow it for use. I think its STUPID it got phased out like it did and think its a HUGE revenue stream that is currently going untapped.
The look was massively popular throughout the fanbase and alumni groups. Personally, we tried to use the look down here with our alumni chapter, because most of our alumni had that as the school's look when they were students, but we were immediately shut down by the university.
Just like OJ was found innocent...
Because....

and then this

"Soft" would be if Buzz said his rule on phones was zero tolerance and that it meant you had to run srpints or something like that and TT decided he would rather transfer. This only helps Buzz establish himself as a tough and fair coach. If the truth is your son didn't really like the coach or you don't like the coach then just say so and move on. The phone is a red herring.
Beautifully worded.
"...Toddlers in Tiaras in basketball shorts"
lol, classic!!
Because I'm only ever concerned about the offense. Defense under Foster has never worried me.
No need to deface the Beamer gals...we have this! (Thanks again, Charlotte Hokie!)

Love the overviews.
I still have some more learning to take on. Thanks, French.
