I asked a question that you decided to not answer. But downvote away instead of trying to discuss. The discussion was, why is Vick still getting crap for this when others who have done worse to people are held up as role models. My answer is, people love animals and he admitted to doing horrible things to them, so many people won't forgive. And then I was questioning who has done worse to people and is now a role model.

I uplegged you to balance you out, but as it has already been covered above, many of us find this mindset hypocritical. Also, this isn't exactly an unbiased forum where you can bash Vick...
The man did his time, he apologized, he continues to work to improve his cause. Not moving on just seems to be very closed minded at this point.

The thing is - having your cell phone on in the first meeting with your new coach does indeed warrant a chewing out. Furthermore, if one's psyche is so fragile that the very first time you get chewed out in front of the team you decide to leave the team and the school, then the problem is with the fragile person, not with the coach who said something unpleasant.

The 'something more' is that Thompson did not want to play for Buzz, period. This was his convenient excuse. There was ZERO wrong with Buzz chewing him over that and nothing else. To reinforce - we do not know what was said. Buzz could have said - 'Either you're all in, or you can get out.' and Thompson could have pretended THAT broke his ego.

A coach chewing out a player for not having a cell on silent is perfectly acceptable. How is that even debatable? Thompson didn't want to play for Buzz, period.

The difference is that ray Lewis was not found guilty. Vick plead guilty. Although most reasonable people can probably assume that ray did something bad, it is not a known fact what happened. Vick admitted it. Again, I'm not saying Vick shouldn't be allowed to make a living now that he's paid his price. But us getting outraged because PETA takes a jab on twitter is crazy...what do we expect from peta? And please don't bring up Dante stallworth, he killed a person and is playing in the league again, just like Vick.

Plus is eligibility ran out and he was drafted by the Ravens, but that is a whole 'nother story.

Something else to consider since it's one of our favorite topics from time to time:

Is there anyone at all worried about our Frank Beamer succession plan anymore? I don't want to see him go until we take a shot at a natty but I am officially no longer worried that we'll make the right move post-retirement.

WF is in Winston-Salem. Not a huge city by any means, but it's fairly close to Greensboro and the Triangle area. Also with Tim Duncan and Chris Paul as NBA poster children and a number 1 ranking as little as 4 years ago, I'd say Wake is a better job than Tech right now. Clemson and BC I definitely agree with. We know Tech has had to do more with less in the past, but we still managed a few top 4 finishes in the ACC. Hopefully Buzz can get us over that hump.

Well, the Buzz Williams hire & compensation package invalidates my original question anyway. May have already been decided before I asked the question, looking at the time of the post.

Rogers? Beamer? Why not have both!

Yep. Just my opinion. Mike Vick has done a lot of good, and I wasn't questioning his right to make a living now that he's served his time, just saying that many people aren't ever going to let it go. I think if he really did all those things and any of us were there watching it, we may find it difficult to let go too, even if you aren't a dog lover.

And regardless of whether or not Buzz's reaction was appropriate, or how TT actually responded when the phone rang: TT didn't have to leave the program. That was all on him.

Sorry, Thompson is not a hokie anymore by choice. That's his choice and more power to him, but I personally could give two shakes about non-Hokies. This is a Hokie website, you're going to find that we are biased in favor of coach williams, a hokie, and against non-hokie basketball players. It's just the way it is.

And let's be real about his "contributions to the program" - he's a freshman who averaged 5 and 5 on a 9 win team. Maybe if his daddy didn't go crying to the media about what a meanie head the new coach was to him, people would be reacting a little differently.

But don't quit on your alleged team and school and take parting shots at the new coach and not expect people to shoot back, that's just not how life works.

Well, I feel like they are the overwhelming minority.

My point is, it is possible to support the new coach without questioning the character/toughness of a 19-year-old kid who has contributed exponentially more to our basketball program than just about everyone on this site.

It's just a hunch, but I think the comments in support of Buzz would be better recieved if they weren't accompanied by a knock on Thompson.

Is it bud or butt? Never been really clear on that. Nor have I been overly interested to look the answer up.

Yes, great avatar, but if you want something other than the direct image I freely offer my Moorehead/Bunyan crossover image for such a classy move as changing your user name.

Time to break out the t-shirts again

and yes, that is Sammy Watkins in there

What is this wonderful Bibke and where can I buy one?

I had fun with the situation above, but I do agree with this.

Individuals can choose to forgive or never forget. It's up to them. It sucks for Vick but if it follows him the rest of his life he has no one but himself to blame.

And I wasn't trying to accuse you of doing so. I saw potential for a non-sports and non-VT related discussion that would lead nowhere.
I love this site for everyone being respectful of each others' opinions and the passion we all share for Virginia Tech and its athletic program. Every once in a while someone joins who does not understand the spirit of the site and things can get out of hand. I apologize if I'm coming off as obnoxious, just wanted to nip this one in the bud.

Pretty Edible Tasting Animals needs to take a chill pill. "Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone"
One of my favorite quotes from the Bibke and I think all those crazy organizations needs a big dose of this.
