I keep my phone on vibrate at all times because I never want it to go off in class or meetings or whatever. And I hate it when people don't turn their phone and it goes off during class. What I'm saying is there had to be something more than just a phone going off because that doesn't warrant a "chewing out" it just warrants a very displeased coach. I don't believe Buzz is at fault and if I'm siding with someone it would be Buzz. I was a coach for 5 years and may continue for a long time and I can't stand it when kids are talking to each other when I'm talking. It's one of my biggest rules and I make it clear on day one. I coached elementary school kids to high schoolers. By the time you're a D-1 athlete you should know that too. I can understand that Buzz would not be happy. My point is there's something more that we don't know and/or he was transferring anyway and blew what happened out of proportion.
It was sad that the NFL commissioner had to inflict more of a penalty than the legal system.

But the next time a pro athlete murders someone, or obstructs the investigation of a murder, or gets behind the wheel drunk and endangers everyone else on the road due to his actions, then I expect the masses to be leading the charge against them for the rest of their lives as well.
But the fact of the matter is, this never happens. Ray Lewis has a cushy ESPN job after obstructing a murder case in 2000. A case in which he was a major suspect. But did that follow him the rest of his career? Nope. Not at all, and in fact, he's heralded as an ambassador of the game. Vick is still vilified and crucified to this day of his actions of nearly ten years ago. According to the legal system he did his time, and as a society, its time for everyone to move on.
You and above are correct. The multiple suspensions still have me concerned. Guess we will wait to see if Buzz makes Harris an offer. Right now that hasn't happened.
Probably not but I think someone's ethical beliefs shouldn't be penalized here. I didn't think for a moment you were a downvoter. Others just occasionally need to be reminded.
If his intentions are to follow Buzz, they can hire whoever they want, our open scholarship is his the minute he's granted his release.
Now if Marquette wants to be childish about it, they'll block him from being able to declare here. But if they do that, it will come across as such, and it'll negatively impact their future recruiting.
Harrell didn't officially request release until after Weaver had hired JJ but it was seen as a foregone conclusion back then because of the situation with Harrell's AAU coach. Don't sell Ben Howland short if he ends up being hired, he could convince quite a few of these kids to stay. I do think that eventually most of these kids will hit the open market if nothing else to see what else they might get offered since some of the bigger programs like Duke and Kentucky will possibly have One and Done openings to fill.
Went to an improv show, got very drunk from great beer Friday night, woke up hung over and went to help someone homebrew. Then I went to Shamrockfest and got drunk again, continued drinking in DC, and then slept all day Sunday. I feel very accomplished.

I don't think it was excessive at all for Buzz to get on TT. And we know NOTHING about what Buzz actually said, thanks to the lack of followup by Mark Berman. Even if Buzz reamed him out for it, I don't find that excessive. It is EXTREMELY rude and self-centered for anyone to leave their cell phone on during a meeting and it is EXTREMELY easy to remember to cut it off prior. If one actually cares enough to do so, that is. Everyone knows that. 19 yr olds know it, 15 yr olds know it. It's not allowed during class. it's not allowed during games. It's not allowed during practice. It's not allowed during meetings. Who doesn't know that? Who cares so little they don't take five seconds to check? What is wrong with criticizing them for that?

It is not at all about Buzz being too harsh, it is about Thompson's father claiming Thompson was so emotionally fragile that having his coach criticize him in front of his teammates was justification for leaving VaTech. If this is so egregious of Buzz, then why has no other player come to Thompson's defense? Why do people automatically assume Buzz was even harsh about it?
I don't think Harris ever actually signed his NLI due to complications with his suspension. Appears he's completely free to go where he wants.

As the roster is currently made up and with NCAA restrictions at 13 scholarships for Men's Basketball there are two openings right now. No one from the current Marquette class has actually been released from their NLI right now because Marquette policy is that no athlete is released from scholarship until a new coach is hired and that coach has an opportunity to meet with each player.
Although Marquette signee Sandy Cohen tweeted Saturday night that he had been released from his scholarship, interim athletics director Bill Cords said Sunday morning that wasn't the case.
After Cohen's tweet, Cords called the 6-foot-6 forward from Seymour to reiterate Marquette's all-sports policy that no student-athlete receives a release following a coaching change until he or she has the chance to speak with the new coach.

As for who will get those scholarships, I prefer to leave it to the coaches to decide who of their former recruits based on our current roster make the most sense to round out the team. The reality is that Malek Harris and Sandy Cohen are both basically the same position/type of player as all three players coming in for Virginia Tech already. 6'5" to 6'7", 170 to 190 pounds. I personally hope that Williams decides to pursue a couple of bigger players if he can get them because that would benefit our roster the most, secondly would be to go after another point guard to ensure Devin doesn't get burned out. I am not sure how well Malik Mueller is going to figure in to Williams style of basketball. The JUCO players seems to have a college ready frame to play the four spot so I wouldn't be opposed to him being one of the two.
That's an interesting policy. I can't remember for sure, but I think Harrell was granted his release almost immediately after Greenberg was fired. So I guess we don't have a similar policy. I think it's dumb though, if the kid wants to still go to the school the next coach can start to recruit him. But he shouldn't be forced to stick with them. I know the kids are supposed to choose the school and not the coach, but acting like we don't know the truth about it is dumb in my opinion.
I agree with Williams because he's the coach AND, he's giving the kid his transfer instead of denying eligibility.
Bottom line, support the new coach.
