I'll agree with the Royal part but not the arm strength. In fact, in the CFA bowl who was it that threw the TD pass?
Glennon was a 4-star recruit because of that and Eddie Royal. He did have a strong arm though, just no time/pocket to be able to get off a good pass.
Thx for the article. Satisfies my hunger for more analysis. Interesting viewpoint on how the DT position is run more like an offensive lineman, with pre-planned gaps and assignments. I also liked the descriptive "built more like a fire hydrant" analogy for what our typical recruit looks like. Identifying and successfully recruiting the right fit for our system is arguably more critical for this position than any other on our D. It takes a selfless, tough, quick, role player to excel. Good thing Wiles has proven such a solid recruiter! I'm really pulling for these two kids--

It wasn't a night game, but my memory includes when it was dark out. So I count it.
As an 11 year old spending his first day in Blacksburg my first memory ever was the BC game in 99 standing on the wooden southendzone bleachers watching Frank Beamer and Michael Vick getting carried off the field right in front of us, the students taking down the goal posts right in front of us, and me asking my dad, with concern that they were going to fall back on us "Where are they going to take those goalposts"?
Wasn't he only at Clemson for like a week and a half?
More highlight videos should feature the player wearing a Christmas sweater.
Andre's Davis' 3rd quarter vs. Weet Virginia in 2000 was one for the ages. His 3 touchdowns in the span of a few minutes set Lane on fire.

The Thurs night game against UMD where Darren Evans went off was pretty fun. Very very cold, if I remember correctly.
Technically not a night game because it was a 3:30 kickoff but it is was dark by the time they put Sandman on the PA and we recorded and earthquake in Lane then very next play "ALONZO TWEEDY MAKES THE TACKLE AND VIRGINIA TECH WINS!" Accompanied by Logan's best game as a Hokie and his game winning run when it was almost fully dark. I was in Lane for that one I can still hear in my head the Lane Stadium announcer screaming "AND THATS THE END OF THE GAME THE FINAL IS VIRGINIA TECH 38 MIAMI 35!
I grew up watching the Hokies and loving them but being at this game took my love for Hokie football to a whole new level and three months later I joined TKP and its just been growing ever since.
This is the one I was going to mention. That was my first game ever at Lane Stadium, and the only night game I've been to. Definitely a memorable one.

I really like the uniqueness of Cassell, so I'd be disappointed to see it replaced. I'll definitely agree with some big facelifts though. A lot of broken seats, a lot of empty seats, a lot of chipped paint. Wouldn't be opposed to taking out the seating in the upper corners in favor of some boxes. Exterior could use some more Hokie Stone and a fresh coat of paint. Maybe an extension and renovation of the ticket lobby. Gotta fix the revenue first.

I don't think JJ would put up with it. Maybe if they brought in a Hall of Fame type coach, but the chances of that are zero with our budget and history. Even then its questionable.
As for JJ staying his entire contract, if he makes it through this season, anything is possible. If he managed to go .500 next season in the ACC, I would expect him to be back again. He just has to see about surviving the last few weeks of this season. Right now with their increased competitiveness, I expect he will be back next season but the next five games will have an impact on that.
I know this was a 3:30 game but it was still freaking awesome and it ended around 7 or so.

I like the move of Cassell Guard idea although I'll doubt it will happen cause then the general public can't see without standing up. It looks cool in other CBB arenas though. I for one like Cassell, the "old" feeling works for me. However, I think this is what people think of when they say we need a new arena, not capacity issues. Because we certainly don't have those. I liken it to UMD moving out of Cole Field House into Comcast Center. Yes its bigger, but more than that its sleek and modern
As you will see in most of my write-ups, if Eddie does poorly on a given night I am critical of him, as I was tonight in my game thread post. That said, show me another player on offense on this team that has been even remotely consistent. He plays with what appears to be the weight of the world on his shoulders, as you can see it in his face when he doesn't deliver. Emelogu throws up a three and misses and it doesn't even seem to register. Do I think he should have been the captain? I don't have enough access to say but historically looking at teams from most sports, you rarely see a rookie or a freshman named Captain, its usually something that's earned with time and respect. JJ made his decision but I would love to have been there when it was put to the players. To be honest so far this season, I would have rather seen someone like Christian Beyer named captain.
And if we want to point to the statistics so far, Emelogu tonight scored 8 points, on 2 for 6 shooting. Critical time of the game, his last point came with a free throw with six and a half minutes left and nothing more to show down the remainder of the game. He and Eddie both missed a three and a free throw in the last four minutes.
This season, compare the two of them, and Eddie is better in the most important categories. Eddie averages three points more a game, 2.4 rebounds more a game, and then the rest of their stats are basically a wash. Eddie is shooting slightly better than Ben from behind the arc and the free throw line. Emelogu has also missed five games this season. His fault? No but its all part of the package. You want to be the freshmen whiz kid, you need to deliver big results. He was named Captain and wasn't even expected to start, I know it wouldn't sit right with me if I had been busting my butt for the program for three or four years to have the coach hand something like that to a baby face kid because he is JJ's Golden Boy. I think next season there is a good chance Emelogu may find it harder to get on the court than it is this season with the incoming recruits, Smith and Mueller healthy, and that may get even more so his Junior year with the potential guards we are working on. I don't get to go to practices but nothing in the game has made me say wow about Emelogu. I don't see him firing people up on the bench or leading huddles on the floor. Little things I know but from the outside, that's all you have to judge on someone being the leader of the team.
Forgot about that game. That's up there too.
