I prefer to think that we are going to constantly try and get the best available players for our team. It will serve as a constant challenge for the players already there to strive for their personal best and instill competition.

I'm going to be contrarian here.
Going out on a limb and predicting better pure play at QB.
This is based on several somewhat optimistic premises:
- Our current receivers have had a year being starters, and learning all the things they need to know. They've had a year of chopping wood (running routes, catching balls, blocking). Our incoming receivers are a significant step up physically and in terms of experience in the role.
- The same can be said about our OL. And, as has been mentioned in this thread and others, anything is an improvement over Newsome. Searels's resume bodes well for the future of a line that now has depth with big bodies who have played the position before.
- RB support. Even if Trey hasn't recovered, RB is probably the easiest position to play for a freshman out of HS, assuming any can learn the blocking assignments. The talent level and ceiling of incoming backs clearly looks to be better than what we had playing for us last season, with the possible exception of Trey.
- QB accuracy, decision making, and/or mobility. Granted: We haven't seen enough snaps from any of our current and incoming stable to base this on data, so this is definitely the weakest premise. But I think Logan's struggles were in no small part caused by trying to force his body to unlearn a whole lot of bad habits, and these were only amplified by the struggles his supporting cast was having.
- I don't think there is any question that Ford, if he wins the starting role, already looks better in fundamentals and in accuracy and football IQ than Logan was showing his sr. year.
- I think Leal has better touch, and if he wins the starting job, it will be because he has gotten comfortable with first team reps and reduced the mental errors he had in the bowl game.
- I think Motley has a very real shot at being the starter. He is more athletic than either Ford or Leal, and from all reports, looked surprisingly good in practices. If he does start, it would mean Loeffler has confidence in his accuracy and decision making. Couple that with his mobility, and you could have a sneakily deadly field general under center.
- I'm not including Durkin here, because I don't see a legitimate path for him to start next year. Not enrolled early, and needs work on the fundamentals to be a starter.
Please don't think any of this is a slap at LT3. I truly believe he can excel at the next level, and I believe that had he had one more year under Loeffler, he'd be a legitimate candidate for a 1st rounder.
But let's face it. The only reason he was QB at all was because he didn't have the athleticism to be an Offensive Tackle.
The spring development is why I feel that next years QB will be Motley, Leal or Ford. I think the other 2 redshirt if they don't want to play other positions.
Had Leal played last season, I would be a strong proponent of him playing this year.
The thing that really excites me about Ford is that he is a QB (and always has been). He seems to be a cerebral guy who has a lot more shiftiness than our old friend Sean Glennon had. I'll take a 6-7 win season (so long as we beat UVA by 70-80) next year to mold him into a beast for his last 2-3.

There's a big difference between Baggage, Diva's and SWAG.
We're also gunning for a 5-star QB, among others, in the 2015 cycle. Not sure if recruiting really plays a factor in how coaches feel about current players on the roster.
No one wants a slice of humble cake.
Not to mention said game against OSU (yeah, I left out the 't.' Wanna fight about it?) is in the 'shoe, which is one heck of a challenge for any freshman QB. Not impossible to win (see Barkley and USC a few years ago) but still very much less than ideal for a kid's first road start, which it will be regardless of who wins the job.
As I said above, they may not move things around too much. If I'm looking at the calendar right, their first non-football Thursday would be November 6. It's not unheard of for dramas to start that late into the year, and it would give them fewer reruns in January and March.
Sitcoms roll a little different, but maybe they'll load up their good ones on Mondays, and then spread them out in November when they have room to bring back their second tier.

Its also interesting to see how often one service changes their ranking on a kid and over the following week or so several others follow suit.
So is it fair to say that our stud DEs (NFL 3-4 LOLB) and mikes/backers (NFL 3-4 MLBs) should expect easier transitions to the NFL than our DTs and non-stud DEs? I'm not sure we've really seen that, though. Why not?

By my count, there's 12 4* from 247, 8 4* from Rivals, and 5 4* from Scout. Is that just because of the ridiculous amount of variance in rankings between the various services, or do they have drastically different numbers of 4* players?
Once the indoor facility is done we should host a 7-on-7 championship game or something and help them realize what a great football university looks like.

I personally hope Ford wins the job, Durkin redshirts, McMillian either switches positions or redshirts, and Leal and Motley are there so if Ford gets hurt or starts to struggle.
Wow. The state of VA produced pathetic talent from the class of 2010 outside of Justin Hunter. This also inspired me to go back and look at the VA state rankings for the last 5 years or so and realize how few of these guys end up producing on the field.
