Didn't like the whole NFL Thursday night thing to begin with. It's cool to open the season with, but after that I'm over it. I like Phil Simms on Thursday nights even less.
Its definitely providing an unfair competitive advantage for LOLUVA. Ive read several stories on TSL where these HS coaches bash Virginia Tech publically to the local media. While these coaches are welcome to their own opinion, its certainly feeding a negative atmosphere for VT recruiting at these HS that also participate in the 7 on 7 activies.
I dont see much of a change though..sure, the nfl will have a larger draw but how many more will tune in then they do already? Secondly, college fans will continue to watch their teams big Thursday night game. Major cities that have an nfl team likely dont have a college team that they follow. Third, college games are more regional where the nfl draws a national spotlight regardless.
Any chance we see two or even three TEs starting this season at times..something to think about.
I'm not gonna lie, I see posts like this as lamenting over a girl or O-Line coach who broke your heart. It might be nice to think about for a little bit, but really accomplishes nothing. Time to appreciate what we have, get ready for next year and go get the prom queen.

Bell will be a tight end next season, but was at QB all of his career until this point. Durkin will be a QB this season, who knows what happens further down the road.
Bro, we just reeled in one of the best recruiting classes in the past decade. Recruits change their minds, kids leave the state, all that happens every year in every state and to every program. There will always be the ones that got away. But this class is the start of the future which will bring immediate improvement to the entire team. Talent is everywhere across this class. Let's be thankful for what we got.
So happy to hear that there will actually be open competition at the QB position. After HC Beamer's words concerning Mark Leal, I was afraid that he would just stick with Leal. Thank goodness Leal will have to earn his spot as opposed to just inheriting it.
WRs is my guess
Isaiah McKenzie was never coming to Tech. See Joe's Behind the Scenes post.
I really hope you're right.... But I personally don't see it happening. There will always be a very loud, vocal (and hopefully small) portion of the fan base that will be impossible to please. Unless we go undefeated (hey, a guy can dream, right?) people will still be calling for the collective heads of Loeffler, Beamer, Little Beamer, etc. Shoot, even if we do go undefeated, I'm sure a few will be calling for heads.
I respectfully disagree....well I want to be optimistic but I think a lot of our fans will start this season with a "its better than what we've had the last few years with LT" justifiable or not I've seen it happen with the skins quite a few times. I don't think its fair but I think the starter will get at least a couple of weeks to prove himself and will at least be given more slack than LT.....at least I hope
First off, welcome to TKP!
Some of us have seen Motley throw this past year and came away impressed. Kid can fling it. However, word in the rumor mill is that Lefty doesn't see him as a QB. He'll definitely be in the competition, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him move to another position.
I thought there were some strong praises coming out about Motley - he seems lost in this discussion....
Update!!!!
Were all stuck in the car driving back from Atlanta and we started comparing models because....well that's what meteorologists do on a 6 hour drive and all things are pointing towards a large buildup of low pressure developing and moving southeast towards Louisiana and the gulf
For those of you who missed my mini lectures this fall, low pressure systems winds flow counter clockwise which will pick up even more moisture from the gulf, the systems track will then typically head up the east coast where it will continue to pick up more moisture. We call these storms noreasters and they typically provide huge snow events for our region. All three models we checked pointed to almost identical storm tracks for next week which....usually is a good indicator that some things gonna happen, more news later but things certainly look threatening at this point, expect snow out to Richmond and ice and sleet east of that, northern Virginia will get snow as well and it should carry into Friday, storm track is pointing to a wed arrival so yeah euro is saying 12+ inches...
Its a nice black color, gfs is saying 10-12, NAM is looking like 10-12 too.
The euro usually doesn't throw snow numbers like this around and I want to reiterate that I trust that thing a good bit, again more info as this develops!
I'll post some graphics soon too once I get off the road!!!
McMillian, Ford, Durkin, Leal, Motley - may the best man win the starting job.
At the very least, it's going to be exciting!
Took a look at Hokiesports and saw that he's actually gonna major in engineering. I think I know who I'm pulling for in the QB race...
I'm thinking the NCAA is gonna have a shitfest.
So that's six that have gone out of state, four to Tech and three to UVA.
Yeahhhhh I mean I'm gonna keep an eye on it but a lot of the guys at the conference agreed that the 18" they were saying last weekend was ....not even close to accurate there's still some potential and one model is still pointing to double digits but most are primarily pointing to a resounding whiff on the storm, particularly the euro which...aside from that Miami game has yet to really let me down but ooph did I whiff on the Miami game haha I still feel bad about that one
I think the meaning was "better weapons than Logan had last year." I think that'll be true. Kind hard for it not to be, with how last year's group did. Only Coles departs, with Malleck returning from injury along with some very talented freshmen.
Totally forgot that Macho was a No. 1 recruit. It's a shame he didn't work out in the NFL.
IMO, he proved himself very well in 2012. Easily our most consistent in-line blocker and a very good receiving threat who was underutilized in the passing game. In Loeffler's offense, he's a weapon, either in-line or flexed as an H-back. I see him being used exactly the same way as DJ Coles was this year in the red zone.
*EDIT* I in no way mean to belittle Cline or his accomplishments. He was very productive and will continue to be so. Having both of them in the game will give our offense some great potential matchups to exploit.

For several years now, we've seen 2-3 TEs starting...they just weren't playing TE. Now that Newsome is gone, though...
