What frustrates me is that players like Curtis Grant and Stephone Anthony fitted in perfectly at Tech and then they went to Ohio State and Clemson and fell way behind on the depth chart and the rest was history. I fear the same thing may happen to Nnadi if he goes to FSU, whereas if went to Tech he would play immediately and probably dominate. So please, Derrick if you are reading this don't make the same mistake, come to Tech and become the legend that everybody knows you will be if you pick the HOKIES!

Great guy, remember talking to him at west end. Was really humble and friendly. Would love for him to get more involved with the team.

Raymon minor will be in town too this weekend.

I don't necessarily disagree that prioritizing money to the football program needs to be Babcocks first instinct, I do think that if he could bring in a Kellogg for $800k and have him bring winning back to Cassell it would likely pay for the difference between his salary and the roughly $695k that Johnson is currently making. A new coach with Babcocks support in changing the pricing structure of basketball tickets would need to regularly bring in 500-700 more people per game to cover the increased costs to the program. As far as recruiting gies, we are as limited in that respect as we make ourselves. Are we going to beat Duke and UNC, not often, but as we have seen with the new football coaches, we aim higher we have a chance at five star QBs, so hopefully we find someone willing to battle for top forwards and point guards.

I don't contest that the $100k might have kept Grimes here but Searles seems to be settling in quick and appears to have kept four out of five linemen and already has new potential recruits giving us a look. Either way Babcock has a challenge in front of him and I hope we all are ready to respond when he comes calling.

I've seen JJ at a chalk talk (granted it was only one) but he seems like a very nice person. So I'm not gonna trash his character. Plus, as someone who has been a Cadarian fan since he replaced an injured Davila 2 years ago I can say that he hasn't lived up to his potential. This is a kid who has the height, has the strength (he's built like an offensive lineman), and has the footwork to be great. Not just good, but great. And he has managed to add nothing to his offensive game. Me and one of my friends joke during every game that if anyone bites on a pump fake of his they haven't watched any tape of him play. He's just non-stop pump fakes without adding a legitimate left hook to his game that could send him to that next tier of players.

I think JJ's demise will be the disgruntled fan base. Yes, wins are critical. Everyone loves a winner. But his poor performance on paper and in the checkbook will be his undoing. I believe Babcock gives him one year, which I think JJ can right the ship. But if tix sales and alumni continue to disconnect, change will happen.

JJ is a Division 1 college coach. Throwing a player under the bus with a classless comment like that is simply sad. If he has an issue with Raines, then handle it in private, not in a public newspaper. No player deserves that type of treatment.

Bama claims 15 football national championships. They have not won 15 national championship games. They didn't even finish some of those seasons with the best record or play in a bowl game. Several committees went back and decided retroactively who should have been national champs.

honestly, the recent support of raines is interesting to me. the public digs at him are somewhat unnecessary, but i think JJ sees talent in raines and is frustrated at his constant inconsistency. ive seen games where raines dominated supposedly superior big men, then been completely non-existent the next game. hes a senior on a young team, so i assume he must be showing a lack of leadership behind the scenes. from what ive heard greenberg was a little too buddy buddy with his players, and i think JJ is trying to establish more of a player-coach relationship

Again, I am a football guy first, especially at a school where VT has a culture and plays in a conference where there is an easier road to success and more money in football. When I look at most of these guys salary ($1 million plus), I would rather Babcock look at keeping a young, inexpensive coach and try to strike gold, and the reinvest the half million in cost savings back into football. You could get the best guys on this list (which I regard as Smart and Marshall) and given their branding and the recruiting grounds VT lies in, you are still lucky to get into the top four or five in the ACC, and a fifth place ACC team isn't packing Cassell.

PUT THE MONEY INTO FOOTBALL UNTIL THE COFFERS ARE REPLENISHED.

:-( The recruit I really wanted the most. This one will sting for a while, like Stephone Anthony.

While I appreciate all the research that went in to this, a list of potential candidates for a coach who hasn't lost his job yet seems premature to me.

I remember reading comments on here before the season started about how we'd be "lucky to win 10 games" and "may get swept in conference play." We knew this was going to be a rough year. What's happening now seems almost exactly aligned with preseason expectations.

If the new administration chooses to go in another direction, I'll be fine with that decision, but personally, I don't think there's a coach anywhere in the country that could have had significantly more success given the circumstances.

Thought I would come up with my own, but it would look just like yours. Hate that feeling of Nnadi and Harrison at FSU instead of VT (especially Nnadi perfect fit for out D-line), but what can you do. +1 because we agree

Oh, I see Joe removed the phone number he had posted, probably a good idea. I guess the kid probably either had someone see it and tell him it wasn't a good idea, or he got some unwanted attention from having his number out there in public, since he has since deleted the tweet.

Wait... is the big kid FSU, where he's picking on all the little kids... or is he VT, where he takes wild shots and maybe hits one in a million (Vick)?
