I will start giving again to the Hokie Club when the value seems to be worth the investment. Giving to the university for education is one thing, giving to the athletic program that is very much underachieving is a difficult decision especially when funds seem more limited. Also 12:00 pm kickoffs against Western Carolina's just don't count as a win in my book...

Yes, we have a horse...on a treadmill...thanks for the bump, macraw, I've been non-internetting for a while, glad to be back.

Welcome to all the new farm animals! You'll find me out in the pasture most of the time until Equine grad school is complete or until a football season starts up, then I trot up and say mostly incoherent things.

We do get some skirmishes around here, some good-natured and some not so, but by and large we're a good herd.

For starters, you'll need to choose your favorite dessert (one of the friendly debates). Cake (which is good) and pie (which is better) represents our Mason-Dixon line, although some cookie fans have been known to make their voices heard. By and large, if you like any uniforms besides #allMaroonEverything you may find yourself fighting some lonely battles.

Joe runs the site, and will kick you off if you give him any guff (not really, but kinda), french and Mason handle the football. You'll run across a few stalwarts of Hokie fandom like VTPhreak and BeerControlOffense from time to time. JasonInArlington may be out of whack, but he's in the barn. At least someone took his name, might be him.

TKP has been described as 'a place so reasonable that it is hard to believe it is actually on the internet'. I think someone somewhere said this at some point. Also, the place where you can get VTScoop's pictures without their branding (not really, there was a thing at one point, but cite your source and give credit where it's due, which I totally couldn't earlier in this paragraph).

You'll see that we like joking about converting tight ends to quarterbacks and Mark Leal has a following (one of the debates that, eh, isn't always good-natured). Sam Rogers is our Chuck Norris. Bud Foster is our saint (and a drink, half Fosters and half Budweiser). Bourbon might be the pseudo-official liquor. Fire Beamer doesn't fly but honest and dispassionate evaluation of him does. We create a lot of memes, and there is an AV Club that includes BillDozer, you've probably seen his work around the internet, but you wouldn't know it by the results of the athletic department fan video voting last year.

Trolls don't last long. Friendly members of other fan bases do. We don't really trust ESPN or BleacherReport. We love Mama Fuller, TimeCop, and making fun of UVA. We don't like chop blocks, UVA, or UVA. Keep calm and Sam Rogers and you'll be fine. Glad to have you.

Hopefully the coaches have a "How to Not Be an Idiot via Social Media 101" for new freshmen. As a comparison, UNC players had their parking tickets swept under the rug, and that was cited by the NCAA in their investigation, but they were current players when that happened. Still very bad news to advertise something like this, though I'm sure celebrity status on campus will let you get away with plenty.

I for one, welcome our new French overlords. I can only hope that this means slow opposing linebackers are to be caught and baked into pies on the field.

Awesome hire. Impressed with the speed and quality with which this happened. Hopefully we can close on this awesome recruiting class and hopefully the players are enjoying but working hard in the off-season.

I'm not going to reply individually. I just want to make some points, but really GuitarMan said it. This was pretty much all covered before.

anyway,
1) I personally don't tweet recruits. I don't tweet at all.
2) The NCAA has no right to limit how anyone speaks or contacts anyone else. Unless you have signed a contract with them they have ZERO jurisdiction over what you do or what you say. ZERO.
2) Being a fan of a team does not make you a booster nor make you accountable to NCAA rules. Neither does buying merchandise. Just because the NCAA defines it as so doesn't mean shit to anyone they have not signed a contract with.
3) There is absolutely no way for the NCAA to police this. Nor is there ever any chance that they will take action against a casual fan tweeting recruits. There are a few reasons why this is so:
a) NCAA is an organization to which manages collegiate sports but is wholly dependent upon collegiate sports to exist. University presidents will not allow their universities which essentially pay for the NCAA to be penalized and fined for fans in which it has no control over.
b) If the NCAA penalizes for just one, they would have to do so for ALL tweets. The sheer number of them would be ridiculous to keep track of let alone verify.
c) If you have signed up for twitter then you signed their terms of use. This is a "users agreement" with that company. They have certain rules, much like TKP does, that govern what you can and cannot do on Twitter in your tweets. One of their rules is that you are allowed to tweet ANYONE who also has a twitter account so long as it does not break any of the other rules. The NCAA has ZERO authority to override your contract with Twitter to impose their own governance on how you use your twitter account. Corporate law 101 here folks.
d) The ability to fake tweets to rival school's recruits is way too easy. Again, as NCAA cannot impose how you use your twitter account, they cannot tell you to not do this either. There is no way they could follow and verify which are true and which are trolls.
e) You could in fact be that recruit's close friend or relative. Can the NCAA stop them too? No way

As Mason said, the NCAA can do nothing to stop one individual from talking to another, so long as you have not signed a contract with them. The NCAA may have broadly defined rules but in this case they mean absolute dick. There will never be a penalty for a university from a tweet by a casual fan. never.

If you give to Hokie Club then it's a different story, but even then I seriously doubt it unless you were offering them something. As GuitarMan also stated this is a great way for Universities to be seen as taking a stand against it in an effort to follow the rules, but they also can't do anything more than this.

In conclusion, it's your choice but I don't do it. I would tell others not to do it. But recruits seem to enjoy "feeling the love" from the fan base when they commit.
