This makes me sad and I am sad now.
I just read the wiki on his coaching career. He jumped from Hartford where he did this:
"Hartford ranked No. 1 in total offense and No. 1 in rushing yards. Following the 2010 UFL season, four of his linemen signed contracts with NFL teams: Jacob Bender (Carolina Panthers), Colin Brown (Buffalo Bills), Pete Clifford (New York Jets), and Isaac Sowells (Detroit Lions)."
Then went to the NFL.
It's no short of amazing considering he went to the Ravens. When we pick him up, he will be happy to come home and we will mold him into what could be a great OC and eventually head coach.

You wouldn't want the guy who coached our OL when we were having one of our most successful periods with linemen getting drafted? One who coached players like Jake Grove, Will Montgomery, and everybody's preferred candidate for the position, Tod Washington. What is your support for the idea that he shouldn't coach the line? Because he failed as an OC? So thus if he's inept at one job, he must be inept at every job ever.

Well dang man... Now people won't see the picture of him in the AU polo that I was referencing... Haha. I was too late with my comment, I guess.
Of our 2014 OL verbals, Grimes was personally responsible for recruiting Petit, Taylor, and Gallo. Of the three, I believe Taylor is most in jeopardy of dropping us in favor of his hometown favorite, tOSU.
The primary recruiter for Smith and Mitchell is Cornell Brown with Grimes as secondary. Just my opinion, but I think those two are in less danger of jumping ship.
I believe all but Taylor will stick with their verbals as long as we get a quick decision from a new OL Coach (hopefully Todd Washington). Stiney is apparently already talking with them to let them know what's going on, and I expect him to continue that line of communication until we land the new coach.
Don't forget Pfaff reports this month - we will still have five new OLs , Fab 5 or not.

... bearing in mind he's already recently turned down an OL coaching gig at USC from Sarkisian. AND he could still get poached by Caldwell to join him in Detroit.
No one reporting on this seems even to be able to find a photo of Grimes in his VT gear. That's how short a period of time he was around...

I'm more excited about this than I was about Grimes. This guy is a Hokie, through and through. He will sell our brand and be passionate.

I agree. I'd hate to lose the recruits.
Do you not think the AD knows the budget and what they can offer for a coach's salary prepared? Why on earth would the AD publicly comment on those things rather than discussing it with the head coach and allowing him to make the decisions he feels comfortable with?
That's what I was getting at (thanks for making a better point than I did). If he's getting $500K from LSU, that puts him ahead of everyone except Foster. If that happens you can bet Gray, Wiles, Stiney, and certainly Loeffler are expecting a raise as well.
Sometimes people leave for a better job, and there's nothing you can do but wish them luck.
Oh God no. I wouldn't want Stiney coaching my JV HS line much less at VT. How about we get rid of Stiney so we can increase the pay of everyone else?
