Well, Grimes was Loeffler's guy. Beamer offered the OC position to Loeffler first, and Loeffler suggested bringing along Grimes because they worked well together at Auburn. Loeffler should definitely have input, but this wouldn't be the first time.
I don't believe either of us glossed over your last sentence. Loeffler's salary, according to Andy Bitter, is scheduled to be $400k. If you offer Grimes at least $400k (an assumption in the ballpark of LSU's offer, which may even be closer to $500k), that's a $120k raise or 50% increase. What's a reasonable amount to increase Loeffler's compensation at that point? If there are so many different ways to accomplish a large raise in Grimes' salary without flat out insulting coaches who have performed at a high level and put their trust/loyalty in Beamer, then feel free to describe them in a more detailed manner. Because I'm not seeing it.
Perception. Deferring questions to FB makes it seem like VT is not on top of it. That there is no system no process just FB doing what he gonna do when he is gonna do it.
Some people don't see a need for PR. PR means public relations and focuses on perception.
When reporters have questions about major events, you as an AD should have some answers. Punting to the coach on basic questions is just bad form. You don't have to even have a totally solid answer... but you just have to let everyone know that VT did its best and has been working towards another answer.
Maybe she did have a canned response. Some reporters like to F people over. But you generally try to restrict their access if they're going to misrepresent what you said or didn't say.
I'm watching an LSU press conference right now. Les Miles is saying that Jeff Grimes will NOT be the offensive line coach because people in the New Orleans area have been getting strongly worded text messages from Hokie fans.
Nice work, weavez!
Grimes let the commits know before his own current OL players?
Going to miss that man! Great coach great man! Coach Grimes will be missed!— Wyatt Teller (@WyattTeller) January 15, 2014

@vandyke37 pretty messed up rumor if it is— Wyatt Teller (@WyattTeller) January 15, 2014
i hope we can hold onto the recruits... now im going to a bar
This could be a blessing in disguise, now Loeffler can go pick the guy he wants bring him to CFB and say this is my man and no one else. Do whatever it takes to make sure we get him. That guy will probably be Todd Washington, it makes a ton of sense and just like the Grimes to LSU rumors took off there seems to be some TW rumors heading our way as well.
Just sit back and enjoy a new era for Virginia Tech football!!
I say we keep the rest of the continuity on the coaching staff and just get a new OL coach aka Todd Time.
Let's not worry about other positions, let's just find someone else to harden the tip of our spear.
The boxing glove on a stick must work.

In all seriousness most people don't remember that he was good at coaching players. They just know of everyone callling for his head for five years because of his ineptitude at game planning and adjusting.
That's right! Nice catch! In high school we only used void functions, then we hardly ever used them at VT. Now that i'm rusty it's a jarbled mess.
Hey, at least we got a nice firm "Well" out of Brady Taylor...
Maybe the "Well" was in response to a Mike London "You" letter....
I'm not set against him. I'm not exactly sold on him, either, though.
I have to say, moving Stiney back to OL is something that doesn't sound all bad to me. He coached both OL and TEs at the same time before, he could do it again. Depends on whether they can make a better hire for RB or OL. And how they feel about a change of OL philosophy, if they can't find someone with similar ideas to what Grimes was teaching.
But as much as we like to theorize about CFB giving up special teams, letting Shane take that on, hiring a RB coach with playing experience there... I don't think CFB is all that interested in that approach. I think he'll go after an OL coach and leave everyone else where they are.
We just lost our best OL recruiter, and you also want to get rid of our overall best recruiter in the same year?
Sorry Ghostrider, the pattern is full.
We won't forget this LSU, we won't forget this.
We just need to replace the OL coach...not shuffle everyone around and change everything. If we move Stiney and Shane then we are effectively starting the season with 3 new coaches.
Just get Cod Squashington and we are ready to roll...
The only good thing I can think of right now is that somewhere Newsome is having to deal with the realization that the successor to his shitty OL coaching did so well in one season that he got poached by L$U.
Schadenfreude: My coping mechanism.
If its any consolation, Cartoons Plural has reaffirmed his committment to the Hokies....
Just everybody calm down

Haha...sorry RocketHokie13...I didn't see your post. Strange we both thought of Cod.
Maybe because I had a Filet o' Fish from McDonalds last night....
YOU!!!
amazingly found a way to make me laugh given the lameness of Grimes leaving.

LOL!! This post made my day!! Thank you! F Newman
NEWSOME....may be wetting his leg (or in his case puking somewhere) trying to figure out how to be a head football coach at E&H. He put us back 15-20 years on line development....and sucked at recruiting
